Apps that are associated with protection and monitoring have been useful in helping parents keep track of their children’s online behavior. These apps have led to parents associating such apps with the value of ensuring safety and has provided them with a helpful tool to keep track of their child’s digital life especially since tweens and teens try to act more independent and tend to be more secretive about what they are doing.

There has been a widespread concern regarding the privacy and security flaws surrounding apps. With apps tracking our every move, people using apps as a way to not only manage their daily activities but also their finances is opening the doors to numerous hacking issues. Thus, this article is great because it talks about the policy debates that are occurring in response to these concerns. “In response, states this year enacted dozens of laws intended to give people greater control over who has access to their private activity and information, and where and how it is collected, stored, shared and used... At least 11 states passed laws aimed at protecting student data... At least four states passed laws restricting employers’ or colleges’ access to social media profiles... At least six states passed laws further restricting how governments and companies store data or changing how they alert customers of breaches.”
With such action being taken this ultimately give us hope that these laws will help and ensure the protection of not only app users but also the national security of the U.S.

Apps have changed the way we communicate... and date! Learn how the highly popular dating app Tinder is being used (which can be argued as either positive or negative). Being a girl, this article has showed me the negative side of using a dating app like Tinder for girls since it has introduced a “hook-up culture” for men (which is what I am guessing something positive for them). This article unravels how male users are valuing Tinder for changing the dating world into what they would call the “hook up game.” These male users are looking for the “Tinderellas,” the hottest females on Tinder who are hookup material, to rank up the number of girls they’ve slept with in hopes of getting more than their friends did.

The dating app Bumble shared a creative and compelling campaign that not only advertised the dating app but also, through its marketing tactics, communicated the female-first stance. Aware of the competition they would have with the existing dating apps especially Tinder, this article shows how Bumble aimed to remove any of the negative connotations that Tinder attached to using dating apps. In contrast to Tinder, Bumble wanted to make a space for women to feel empowered instead of feeling like another “Tinderella” in the hook-up culture that seems to be every single man’s interest.
