This gif, okay. It's not just the acknowledgment of what Li Lianhua is giving up, but (especially?) his incredibly fond realization of how well Fang Duobing knows him. It's Li Lianhua recognizing that here stands someone who sees him as both Li Xiangyi and, most importantly, Li Lianhua. Someone who sees the sacrifice both of those men are making by being here. Someone who doesn't celebrate the fact that Li Xiangyi is back, that he's alive and has returned to the world, but who knows to be sad about that. Fang Doubing knows that with Li Xiangyi's return from the dead, carefree Li Lianhua has to die. Li Lianhua will lose the freedom he cherished so much. He will be returned to the pressure and pain of being the Li Xiangyi who, in his mind, can never live up to the world's and his own expectations. It's a painful, sad moment, even though the crowd would never see it as such. And yet Li Lianhua smiles fondly, because he can see that Fang Duobing truly knows him. Unlike everyone else there, Fang Duobing is sad for him. Fang Duobing knows what he's giving up and wants everyone to recognize that too. Fang Duobing knows him. (The true him, not the legend who died ten years ago.) Fang Duobing cares about him. So, Li Lianhua smiles. @fan-man-huaisang @wuxia-vanlifer
