i'm teaching my friend about the beauty of footnotes in academic writing ("welcome to academic yapping 101") and i remember a lecturer once showed us a classic example of a page from an old famous historian's book where like a ridiculous percentage of the page was just footnotes instead of actual text. i can't for the life of me remember which historian this was, i'm pretty sure he was german? if anyone has any clue who it might be please make a suggestion because that example still makes me laugh to this day.

30,31,32 for the book asks? 😊
30. Best guilty pleasure read of the year?
I’ve really been off my romance game this year, which are usually my top guilty pleasure contenders, so I actually have to say there were no guilty pleasure reads this year!
31. How many books did you listen to on audiobook?
Definite drop from last year where I truly went on a audiobook binge, but this year I only listened to two! Exciting Times and Sorcery of Thorns.
32. What’s the longest book you read?
Dune at 688 pages!

For the ask game: 11, 14 and 38! 😊
11. What book didn’t live up to the hype?
I hate to say it but Her Body and Other Parties just didn’t do it for me as much as I was expecting it to. I can totally see where people are coming from and I think in another mindset or at another time I too could have loved it, but I’m slowly learning that short story collections just aren’t my genre, no matter how good the topic.
14. What was the best book you read?
It was actually a very bland reading year for me, and I have almost no books that really stuck out for me and that I’ve kept thinking about for months and months after. The two top ones are probably Tender is the Flesh and The Trespasser.
38. Who’s your favourite main character of this year?
Surprisingly not that many character driven books this year where the main character really stood out. I’ll have to cheat a little bit and say Ronan from my trc reread.

about your 2021 books: 10 & 26 📚
26. What books were you planning on reading but didn’t?
I am known for not making very definitive tbrs, but a few that i had on my mind for this year that i already own were The Luminaries, Oathbringer and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Hopefully this year, though!

For the book thing: 39. happy new year
39. What book had the prettiest cover?
A tough one! I read a lot of good contemporary books this year which always have covers i really love. I think Magic for Liars and Tender is the Flesh really ended up standing out for me this year.

5, 10 & 23 <3
1. Oldest book you read this year?
Dune by Frank Herbert! Somehow I was expecting it to be The Lathe of Heaven, I always forget how ridiculously old Dune really is.
10. What book was better than you expected it to be?
I have to say Lakewood by Megan Giddings. I was’t expecting this to be bad, but I hadn’t heard of it before I randomly picked it up at the library and decided to read it solely based on the blurb, which isn’t something I do very often. But this book ended up being absolutely fantastic, would definitely recommend.
23. New favourite author of the year?
I read a lot of books by authors I hadn’t read books from before, but none stood out in the way that i immediately raced to read all of their other books. I think i’ll definitely read more Ocean Vuong once he publishes more novels, and after reading my first Melissa Broder book I think I’ll have to read The Pices at some point as well. But no absolute standouts this year!

the beginning of my great tumblr comeback of 2022 as i'm finally officially starting grad school full time without also having a full time job is listing all the 55 books i read in 2021! i'm also going to repost that "ask me about my 2020" reads post i made last year as that was super fun and a lot of you seemed to like it as well.
the goal for 2022 is to read 60 books, we shall see if i actually manage to do that, as 55 already felt lie a stretch this year.
as usual, if i post more regularly about my reading on instagram and all the books i read can be found on storygraph which i'm using instead of goodreads.
