It’s Fursuit Friday!
Which means fursuit owners from all over will take to Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr and post their adorable suits. Suits that could easily cost as much as a car (maybe a used car), several months of rent, or car insurance for like 3 years! But mixed in with those suits are first suits furries spent years on, watching youtube tutorials trying to get things just right; someone’s hand me down suit; or the ones that cost a few hundred dollars, paid off $50 at a time over months or years. I’m one of the second kind.
I’ve wanted a fursuit longer than I’ve had a fursona. In fact, I designed my sona with my mind set on getting it made into a suit. Meaning I didn’t want a bunch of crazy dots or stripes or fades or anything, and colors I thought would look good on a short, fat person.
I found my first maker on Furry Amino. After a few months, and a few read flags, they disappeared with a good chunk of my suit paid off. They later reappeared on social media under a new name and that’s when I decided it was a scam and got some of my money back from PayPal. The search began again.
I found my current maker on Instagram. Funny enough, they were actually the maker I wanted first, but they were closed when I was looking to commission. I love them! They are awesome at communication, keeping me up to date with the progress on my suit, and I would be able to get my suit before my second fur con later in the year. The con snuck up on them, and I was only able to get the head in time, but I still was able to go a con with at least a head! So much better than going to a con without a suit (IMO).
It’s not perfect. There are a few holes in the stitching, the eyes could use a bit of glue, there are some spots with glue on the nose fur, there’s some shaved bits that are a little wonky, but it’s mine. I didn’t go into debt buying it. I didn’t have to make any huge sacrifices during the payment period. And I gave someone random Midwestern maker a chance to be the next big deal.
My hope is that in a few years when it’s time for sona suit 2.0 that they’re still making suits. I want to go back and say “Remember that suit you made a few years back? I’d like another one, please.” And I’ll be able to put them side by side and see the improvement that they’ve made and that I was able to help with.
So be kind to your friends and random folks in the fandom that have beginner suits. Please ask for our pictures and hugs (if wanted) at cons and meet ups. It will absolutely make our days when someone says “I really like your suit!” (Trust me, I almost cried in suit when someone told me that at a large con with thousands of expensive, well known suits/suiters.) We see the wonky shavings, the holes, and the glue spots. Pointing it out doesn’t make it better, probably worse.
Happy Fursuit Friday! Hope you all have a great weekend!

2018
It’s three days into 2018. It’s 40 here today too hot for the beginning of January.
One my goals of the year is to blog/journal more, along with a few other things. I hope that it will be a way to get things of my chest. I feel like I was a lot more calm and even tempered when I would journal back in college and afterwards. Somewhere where I’m pretty anonymous and can just vent to the void.
Hopefully not just a run of negativity. I would like to highlight some positive things in my life too.
