Still Kicking, Just Dormant
Like Granny Weatherwax in Terry Pratchett’s Lords and Ladies, I, too, ate’nt dead. It’s just been a very long…[checks calendar] several years and my ability to write short anything seems to have dried up. I have, however, been writing some fanfiction and there have been a few one-shots in the relatively recent past that have gone up on the Archive of Our Own account, though most of my writing is…

New work up on Squidgeworld and AO3!
Title: Possession and Care
Fandom: The Owl House
Summary: Alternative happenings in the Archive House--another exploration of what could have happened if Belos had caught up with the teens going to free everyone from being puppets instead of heading straight to the castle to infect the heart of the Titan.
Or...Hunter gets another lesson on the stark contrast between the person who thinks he owns him and the mother who's devoted herself to her foster children for the past few months.
Yes, it messes with the timeline a little, but this is fanfiction, so...why not?

Quick reminder that you are definitely someone's favorite artist, writer, etc.
Doesn't matter what you think about your own art, it’s not gonna stop others from loving it. Don’t compare yourself to better artists, just be happy for them, acknowledge that the worked hard to get where they are now, and learn from them so you can get your art to where you want it to be.

OMG, I need to finish one of these longfics, this situation in my WIPS is getting out of hand, lol. I KEEP GETTING MORE IDEAS.

Since one of my fave authors has turned out to be a predator, I'm going to spite-write like mad as a coping strategy and hope I can finally finish and post one of these long fics to AO3.
May something good come out of a situation that's causing me a lot of struggle because of this person's impact on me in some very difficult times.
I'm gonna create even harder. Also get back to work on some original novels and figure out how to spite-publish as well.
Fuck it, if he's gonna be icky, I'm going to learn to write better.

Despite that the ban on gay troops ended more than a decade ago, a surprisingly small fraction of the tens of thousands of vets affected have accessed benefits they are due. The Pentagon has now agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that may change that for about 35,000 veterans. "This settlement is not just about correcting records; it's about restoring the honor and pride that LGBTQ+ veterans have always deserved but were denied," said Lilly Steffanides, a U.S. Navy veteran and plaintiff in the case. "I hope this brings justice to others who served with courage, only to face exclusion and discrimination."

is that piece of media actually bad, or is it just not following the blueprint you projected onto it? is that work actually not good, or are you just demanding something from it that is absolutely antithetical to its themes, genre, tone, and narrative goal? is that story actually poorly written, or do you just dislike that it is not the specific things you wanted from it that it never set out to be, never was, and never is going to become? is it actually bad, or is it actually well-executed and you just dislike the story it chose to be because it isn't catering to your specific desires and expectations?

I just go for it based on the description and once I open it, format, if it's using a grammar and structure that works for me, and if the first few paragraphs draw me in. I have found spectacular stories with such little attention that I feel the fandom is missing absolute gems in favour of giving more attention to those with massive stats. It makes it a lot harder for new authors or even those of us who have been around 20+ years but don't self promote relentlessly on socials when readers depend on numbers only to decide what to read and I think it so discourages writers from participating in fandom.
Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?

Absolutely, mostly on AO3, but also on FF.net.
reblog if you’ve read fanfictions that are more professional, better written than some actual novels. I’m trying to see something
