derek makes it his duty to keep himself too busy to think,    but that always comes back to bite him one way or another throughout the year,    because currently,    he's been forced to take some pto.    the pack have even forbidden him from doing anything for the next two weeks,   staged a damn mutiny just to convince him to take a holiday.    he doesn't know what to do with himself now,    &    if he has to stare at these same four walls a second longer,    he's going to peel his skin off.

so...cora to the rescue.    darling sister who rarely visits,    but just happens to be gracing everyone with her presence right then.    (    he doesn't spend nearly enough time with her,    really.    )    ❛     —    i thought you'd say that,    ❜    he muses,    perching on the arm rest of a nearby chair.    ❛    wanna come to a 𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 with me,    &    smash shit with a crowbar for a few hours  ??    ❜

cora doesn't have the busiest social calendar. it's not something she's ever complained about . . . she's been a loner for most of her life, and she likes that time by herself. but there's something about her brothers that she can never say no to. maybe it's the fact that she'd thought they were dead for so long . . . so she needed to make the most of any time they got to spend together.

jennifer had made a wise decision in opting to not be present for cora's first time meeting her nephew,    &    admittedly,    derek is a little envious of that.    (    she's already sent him photos of herself living her best life at the spa in her hotel,    which is just plain rude,    actually  !    )    ❛    are you done making a mockery of my love life now  ??    ❜    he asks,     brow raising at his younger sister.    a glance is spared towards the clock on the dash then,    shoulders hitching to a shrug.    ❛    'cause you have approximately thirty more seconds before lia has bullied cam into unlocking the door    &    she comes bounding out to tackle you.    ❜

cora would always consider eden home. maybe not in the way derek did, but it would always be a safe space for her to come back to when she needed to reset herself. but she wasn't there often. she knew she should come back more . . . but it wasn't always that simple. this time, lia was the reason for her to return. she loved her niece with her whole heart, and when she'd heard her little voice over the phone, she'd booked a flight almost instantly.

❝ do you have me coming all the way out here because you started dating again? ❞ cora asked, looking over at her big brother with an eyebrow raised, ❝ because like . . . congratulations? but i don't think that's visit worthy. ❞ she paused slightly, trying to wrap her brain around the thoughts that were rapidly spiraling out of control in her head, ❝ oh my god . . . are you at engagement already? come on derek . . . ❞
