Idk if you've read Sheila Heti (Canadian lit fic author) but I just read Pure Colour and in it she classifies people as birds, fish, or bears, and the description of bears reminded me soo much of landscape with honey:
A person born from a bear egg is like a child holding on to their very best doll. Bears do not have a pragmatic way of thinking, in which their favourites can be sacrificed for some higher end. They are deeply consumed with their own. Bears claim a few people to love and protect, and feel untroubled by their choice; they are turned towards those they can smell and touch.
Anyway I'm loving country road thank u for ur service
oh bro I’m a huge fan of Pure Colour - that book made me start crying hysterically at one point because of my own personal ~issues~ LMAO but good lord it was so so so good
Also that passage is so Simon Riley like…..

PLEASE for the love of the universe read anti-colonial science fiction and fantasy written from marginalized perspectives. Y’all (you know who you are) are killing me. To see people praise books about empire written exclusively by white women and then turn around and say you don’t know who Octavia Butler is or that you haven’t read any NK Jemisin or that Babel was too heavy-handed just kills me! I’m not saying you HAVE to enjoy specific books but there is such an obvious pattern here
Some of y’all love marginalized stories but you don’t give a fuck about marginalized creators and characters, and it shows. Like damn
