(✝️) Ears turned forward hearing Itsuki’s hum and once he laughed Iza gave a slight tilt of his head. It was when Itsuki explained himself that Iza gave a soft laugh. 

“How could I ever forget you falling into the Cloud Sea? I think you were just playing around a little too much or you trying to get something. We took our eyes off you for a second and you were gone. It really was a good thing it was high tide. If it wasn’t, I���m not sure how we could of gotten you out in one peace.” 

It wasn’t exactly a fond memory, but it was one that Iza remembered quite well. Ever since then he couldn’t help himself but to be more attentive to Itsuki’s where-abouts. He softly purred when his driver said he was right, though at the mention of Zuo he gave a hum. “I don’t think so. I think he’d only get mad if you got hurt really bad. A sprain in your wrist shouldn’t get him fired up. If it was actually dangerous I think you would of brought him. It’s not too bad with just us it just takes a little longer.” 

“It was somethin’ like that.”

The memory is a blur of excited exploring, seeing something that caught his eye and all of a sudden he was falling over the edge of the titan. It was a good thing he knew how to swim, and that there was a high tide, but since then his blades have kept a closer watch of him. He appreciated their concern, of course, and it was probably why they kept such a close eye on him. He tended to get a bit overzealous in certain situations.

“Well, all is well that ends well. I’m glad I didn’t sink into the sea, but also I don’t think that made me want to be a Salvenger any more.”

He laughs softly.

“Mm, I think so too, but that’s why your healin’ powers are so handy. N-not sayin’ that I’d want to get hurt so badly, but... I know that If I get hurt, you’ll be right there to heal me after the battle. That’s why I know we’ll be okay.”

(✝️+🛡️) It was amazing to think that people loved the Aurora so much that they’d want to get married under them. 

They both took their eyes off each other when Itsuki started talking. Iza giving a pout and Zuo crossing his arms over his chest. They both thought they weren’t thinking the same way, but were mildly surprised that they were even if a fight was the last thing each of them were thinking.

If they fought, they were sure that it would not leave a very good impression on the people around them, especially if they wanted to get more missions.

There was another soft ease between them. Iza pat Zuo’s chest, letting the ball float above his other hand, “See, don’t worry so much.” 

“I wasn’t the one-” Zuo rolled his eyes, “Whatever, Queen. We should get going then, right?” The cream-colored feline spoke looking to Itsuki waiting to follow him.

“I want the best one, please.” Iza chimed in before Zuo scoffed, fur beginning to stand on end. 

“You? I think we both are going to get the best one we can possibly get, selfish little brat.”

“I know but I think I deserve it, ne?” 

“That’s for Itsuki to decide.” Zuo huffs, small irritation but quickly relaxed. It really wasn’t the time to argue anyway.

“Itsu, can I get the better one?” 

Itsuki snorts with a shake of his head as they start arguing again. This time he let’s them be, mostly because they’d both get the best Aux Cores equip for the job. Weaving through the crowd of people and down the short set of stares, he leaves them to Mamalu’s Core Store, the small orange nopon owner bouncing at them in greeting.

“Welcome friends!”

“Hey Mamalu. ‘m here to refine more cores for these two.”

He says jutting a finger back to his two blades.

“Of course! What else does friend think Mamalu do here? Leave it to Mamalu!”

The nopon boasts proudly gesturing to Itsuki to show the unrefined cores. After sorting them out and giving them to the nopon to refine, Itsuki managed to make ten new ones. He holds them out to Iza and Zuo with a calm huff.

“Alright lesse here... Zuo, I got somethin’ here that’ll increase your block rate a little, and since we’re gonna be outside mostly, I have this Outdoor Attack core for you. Iza, we’ll use Damage Heal, and Physical Defense. We’ll keep the rest for another time, or if I need t’ adjust you both as needed.”

Itsuki ponders a little to himself, frowning a bit.

“Do we need anythin’ else..? I think that’s it... Alright, let’s go out to the Flight Deck and load the ship.”

(🛡️) Zuo saw the look on Itsuki’s face, how they raised one brow as if judging him for wanting to protect them and make sure nothing bad happened. He couldn’t help but remember the type of trouble Itsuki would find himself in, whether it was because he climbed up a tree a little too high or falling into the cloud sea. The feline couldn’t forget the time Itsuki and him had to practically run for their lives because of some creatures that were far strong than what Zuo could handle. He’d never forget how quick he scooped up Itsuki and ran for the hills.

Maybe he was a little too protective. Itsuki wasn’t a little kid anymore.

He’ll have Iza with him. Even if Zuo and the other feline did bicker and sometimes went at each other’s throats, Zuo couldn’t deny that Iza was the type to be watchful over Itsuki. Especially, considering Iza did carry the trait Keen Eye which proved to be more helpful than he would ever say, let alone the fact that Iza was a healer. It was only natural, like it had always been an instinctual thing for the other. Zuo gives a hum and gave into the soft push from his driver, he resisted at first but found himself becoming comfortable on the bed. 

“Alright.. I believe you, but if anythin’ happens I’ma be there, ‘kay?” 

Itsuki’s face softens as he sees the understanding behind Zuo’s features, and calming down while giving in to his soft push. With a bright smile, Itsuki gently pet’s Zuo’s hair and nods with a soft laugh.

“Yeah, yeah. You just get you some rest alright? We’ll bring you back something nice from the market too, okay.”

He promises with a final pat to his head and gets up. Itsuki grabs his bag and coin pouch, giving one last wave to the blade. He and Iza had been material hunting the other day around Gormott, searching high and low for some quality rare collectibles for Aux Cores. There’s only but so much they could collect in the few places they could travel here. Perhaps it’ll be time to move on soon?

He meets Iza outside the Inn after closing the door to their room, shaking his head.

“I finally put ‘em t’ bed. Let’s hurry and finish up our shopping before he comes after us.”

Itsuki was silent for a moment, lips pinned tightly to keep words from coming out. He’s normally good at keeping his emotions in check, but the recently failed mission had him in a bind. It ended horribly, with them being betrayed in the end by some turncoat, and the Urayan client killed. He’s ashamed he didn’t see it coming. They got their justice due, turned over to the Urayan Garrison, but Itsuki still feels horrible.

Iza’s words are comforting, be he can’t see it as not his fault some how. His hands fold over his lap with a soft sigh ans a barely there nod.

“ I dunno if I feel like cryin’... I jus’... I’m mad at myself.”

“Dammit!”

Itsuki left himself open, falling right into the enemy trap. He didn’t think they’d be this smart to launch an assault, but he did come storm the Tirkin den alone. A Javelin Tirkin was ready to spear him down, but just in time he sees Zuo step in front of him and erect a barrier. The Tirkin squawks and bounces off, landing in a pile on top of the other enemies, Itsuki ignoring that in favor of throwing Zuo a worrying glance.

His words lessen his worries, grip returning to the megalance with a nod, as he readies his stance again.

“Let’s take them out, Zuo. Guard me well. partner.”

He could feel the ether energy flow from Zuo to him, basking them both in a powerful golden glow. The Tirkin look a little startled but refuse to back down. All fine by Itsuki.

“We’ll mow you down.”

(✝️) His ears flicked when Itsuki said that his healing did just enough. It brought a feeling of ease over his senses and watching Itsuki flex their wrist and rotate it in small circles, he gave a face of disapproval. Fighting anything without the help of Zuo was a bit of a challenge, but it was the kind of challenge they needed. 

“A rest really would be in your best interest, especially if we are having to wait for Umon.” He spoke with a sway of his tail. The concern was apparent as he watched Itsuki.

“Besides, there’s some spots on the ground that could make you trip and I don’t want you to get hurt again.” Iza spoke as he glanced around, taking note of the smaller details around. 

Itsuki let out a low committal hum at Iza’s advice. It’s a good idea for sure, especially since they’re in a deeper part of Gormott’s forest. The monster’s here are formidable foes, and without Zuo’s defensive stats with them, Itsuki was taking more damage than usual. He’s managing alright with Iza, but the blade does make a point. He has to laugh a bit, since Iza tends to over worry sometimes.

“I haven’t tripped since I was a kid, Iza. Reminds me of when I was little, and fell into the Cloud Sea once. Good thing it was durin’ a high tide, else it have been difficult to get me out.”

He chuckles softly. It was also a good thing he’d learned how to swim early or he wouldn’t have been able to stay as calm or afloat enough to have everyone rescue him.

“But you’re right. We should rest a bit before going back. D’ya think Zuo would be pissed at us for coming here without him?”

“I literally only moved to stretch, missus. Not m’fault you missed seein’ me.”

Itsuki hums softly, placing a bookmark in where he’d stopped reading to pay the only other student in the library a bit of his attention. Perhaps if he weren’t so hidden behind the large desk he could be seen easier, but where else would he be at this period? He smooths his finger along the top of the book, head tilting slightly in question.

“So, what’s up? Lookin’ for study material? Somethin’ to read for fun?”

(🛡️) Eh-!? 

“But...” Zuo had wanted to protest but seeing the way Itsuki held himself as if he wouldn’t change his mind only made Zuo huff in annoyance. He turned away. “I swear I’m not tired.” Even if he had been up quite late, more out of a natural defensiveness and alertness at night to protect his Driver- and Iza too by extension. Then he gave a yawn to further show that he did need some kind of sleep.

Giving a sigh at the final words, “Fine. I’ll try to nap even if I don’t like it and it’s only ‘cause I don’t want you to be unprotected.”Zuo spoke. If anything, he only said it because he didn’t think a healer type like Iza could protect Itsuki better than him, the man designed for the job. 

Itsuki didn’t even have to wait long after Zuo declared he wasn’t tired to see him yawn that excuse right out the window. Unimpressed, Itsuki raised his eyebrows judgmentally, but a smirk is threatening to break his composure. He commends Zuo for being vigilante in watching over them; he’s a dutiful tanking blade, but he wonders if Zuo takes his role too seriously sometimes.

“I’ll be fine, I got Iza with me. We’re just in the market, so if anything happens, you’ll hear. Don’t worry so much.”

With a gentle push, Itsuki  prompts Zuo into laying down on the bed. It’s been a while since he’s wandered around Torigoth and he wanted to enjoy himself a bit, even with the possible danger of the Ardainian Empire’s army nearby. They haven’t exactly came into the town yet, from what he’s gathered, so he should be alright.
