“Well, that really narrows it down.” Matt spoke, a cordial smile appearing across his lips. He was clearly being sarcastic in an amiable way. “Do you have a name? Or would you like to remain strangers?” Alighthearted laugh escaped his breath, focusing on the woman as he blocked out all the different noises coming from Cedar Grove. “I’m Matt.”

“Sometimes I think that you’re the one with the heightened senses.” Matt quipped, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. “A lot happened, Claire.” He said, his voice changing to a more dejected tone. “A part of me did die that night. It died with Elektra.” He mused, a deep sigh escaping his breath as the remembrance of that night plagued his mind. “I survived, but at what cost? Fisk escaped from prison. He sent a psychopathic assassin to kill me, to kill Karen. I stopped him before he could regain power over Hell’s Kitchen. I beat him. He wanted me to kill him. He wanted to me to cross that line, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I wasn’t going to let him win. By killing him, I would’ve destroyed who I am.” He explained, taking a moment to pause and breath. “Hell’s Kitchen is my home, you know that. It’s where I belong. Maybe you should stay and start a new life. God knows you deserve it after everything you’ve been through.”

Matt was hesitant to believe anything Frank had to say. Back in New York, they often clashed over morality and what it meant to be a hero. Of course, Matt knew that Frank wouldn’t call himself a hero, but underneath all the violent killings that followed in his path to punish criminals, he was a good man who only wanted to avenge the death of his family. Matt respected that about Frank because they were one in the same in that regard. The only difference between them was that Matt chose not to kill, not to cross a line in which he would never be able to come back from. Matt became Daredevil to bring criminals to justice, criminals like the mobsters who killed his father for refusing to take a dive in a boxing fight. So, in that sense, they were both at war with criminals due to losing their loved ones.
He believed in his soul backed by his religious belief that Frank was a good man deep down inside. There was a side to Frank that Matt admired, for instance him saving people, protecting Karen, and not allowing himself to be persuaded by Wilson Fisk. “I wouldn’t put it past you.” That was his attempt at casual sarcasm. “You aren’t a bad guy, Frank. Sure, you kill people and that makes you a murderer, but you’ve done a lot of good. You protected Karen. You protected David and his family. You’ve helped people. To say you’re a bad guy, that simply isn’t true.” He mused, trying to bring light and optimism to their camaraderie. “We need to find out what’s going on. I want answers, and I’m sure you do too. I want to know why this happened, why we miraculously ended up here in Cedar Grove, Maine of all places.”

A modest grin tugged at Matt’s lips, the blind vigilante listening attentively as the girl spoke to him. He was listening to lots of things actually, all sorts of sounds that ranged from a far off distance. He had to block it all out, focus on her instead all the different noises coming from Cedar Grove. It wasn’t nearly as bad as Hell’s Kitchen. It was different here, more calm and serene. “Has anyone found out why we all ended up here?” He asked, his voice concerned and full of curiosity. “It doesn’t make sense. Then again, nothing has made much sense lately.” He mused, wanting to get to the bottom of what was going on. “Who are you?” The girl was a stranger, someone he didn’t know and couldn’t identify with his heightened senses. Matt could usually identify familiar people and friends by their scent, but he had never met her until now so he was curious to know who she was.

A sigh of relief fell from Matt’s lips upon hearing a familiar and friendly voice speaking to him. He recognized that voice well. It was Claire Temple, a loyal friend and someone who he could trust. “Claire, it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. How are you?” He felt more at ease, however he was still confused about everything that was going on. “Cedar Grove, Maine? We’re far from home.” He mused, shaking his head and wondering why this was happening to him and his friends. “Is everyone okay?” He was a loyal, righteous man who always felt responsible for the wellbeing of others. It’s what transformed him into a vigilante in the first place, to protect people and keep them safe from dangerous criminals. It was due to his strong moral compass and Catholic faith. “Sooner or later, we’re all going to have to go back to New York. You know that, right?”

“Why are we in Maine? I don’t know how I ended up here. All I remember is returning to my apartment and falling asleep. Now I’m far from home, and you’re the first person I run into. Coincidence, Frank? Tell me you didn’t have anything to do with this.” Matt explained, meanwhile his senses were all over the place as he kept observing the area around him. “I can’t stay here. I have to get back to Hell’s Kitchen. There’s a psychopathic assassin on the loose. Benjamin Poindexter. He’s worse than you, Frank. Chaotic and evil. It’s only a matter of time before more people get hurt.” Matt paused, a faint sigh falling from his lips. “I need to contact Karen and Foggy. I need to let them know that I’m okay.”

Something didn't feel right. Matt realized it straightaway, focusing his heightened senses on the surrounding area. The usual smells and sounds that he had grown accustomed to were gone. “Where am I?” It felt incredibly strange, especially to someone like him who could sense the change through the accuracy and sensitivity of his superhuman abilities. “I’m definitely not in Hell’s Kitchen anymore.”
