Building Space Through LIGHT
Design Thesis / Product & Lighting Design / 3D
Light enables us to experience space. The relation between surfaces, threedimensionality and depth is visualised by differences in surface lightness through shadows and reflections.
Illumination contributes to the increasing of activities and helps acknowledge the space, improving wellbeing in the users because they feel more comfortable understanding their surroundings. Our main tool is the use light as a method to create flexible spaces.
Lighting acts as a template where community happens.
To acomplish this we have developed a network of individual lights that are stablished in an area where people can adjust them to create their own aura of lighting. The lighting design created includes the public space as a functional experience, we created a prism where it radiates light by itself since the light source comes through the ground but the major intensity is controlled by a reflective element that’s on top of the prism that can be adjust for its direction. So either you are in a group of ten people and you need maybe three prism or you will be only needing one, you can set the lighting to your needs without taking the light of others.

Frente al espejo veo mi reflejo. 2020
MIMUS, 2020.
A project by Oti Benitez, Guillem Giró, Noan Calatrava, Carla Carrasco, Ana Bellido and Albert Canals at Elisava School of Design.
The interaction has been designed with the aim of relaxing and calming the users. Therefore, it is a combination of sound and light as a result of people's contact with the columns, with the objective of getting users to embrace these structures and relax completely.
The idea is to create a space of columns in a room attached to the waiting rooms of hospitals, to have the option to choose where you want to stay. Users will enter and touch the columns. Depending on their reactions to the sounds and lights they see, they will touch more and more surfaces until they completely embrace the column with their arms. The embrace is the maximum action to achieve in this installation.
There are several columns because the installation is for the use of several people at the same time. We want it to be an experience with the possibility of making it intimate/individual or with interaction with other people, with the possibility of choosing what one wants. There is a vibration that simulates a heartbeat so that one can feel it and tune in. The lights that appear are passed from one column to another according to the action performed to give the sensation of energy transmission between columns. It is a very intuitive installation but new  users will find it difficult id they don’t take the first step.

WineAway
WineAway is project for a special house: Casa Ricarda.
“After the worst post-war years, Catalan artists and intellectuals, including John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny, Carles Santos, Joan Prats, Robert Gerhard, Villèlia, Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró or Joan Brossa, launched the CLUB49 project, with the intention of recovering the artistic avantgarde born during the Republic and aborted by the subsequent civil war. Given the lack of public support and space, Ricardo Gomis turned his house into a place of artistic experimentation of all kinds, turning his house, La Ricarda, into a refuge for Catalan art during the last 15 years of Franquism.”

Inside Gcode.  (Parametric Design)
This project is based on creating gcodes for 3d printing with ceramics and plastics without having to use a slicer software. This project was an excelent opportunity to explore and learn about a  Grasshopper 3D plugin for Rhino. This software is based on visual programming lenguage and  is primarily used to build generative algorithms, such as for generative art.

CAND1_C12H22O11.  (Material Design)
This project is based on the creation of new water-based material called CAND1. This material formed by sugar, glucose and water. CAND1 is hygroscopic and it dissolves in contact with water. By strictly controlling the making process the caramel can be translucent or become opaque at a higher temperature during the crystallization process. The concept behind this project is to create a material that enables us to consume one use product without generating pollution. This material can create a circular way of consuming where one use materials are thrown away in a “water bin” and then you just have to filter and boil that to get more material to produce.
