my favorite thing about navigating fanfiction is finding a really good one and being all “oh boy this was good, I hope they have more!” and literally every other story they’ve ever written was for like Miami Vice
#i have watched shows for authors before. like they have 2 main fandoms and i like their shit so oh well#i watched half a season of voltron for this reason#also all of teen wolf#the movie RED#etc etc#like the amount of crap i have watched just cos theres fic i can read that i know ill like#especially as a teen. like first and foremost i enjoy fandom i watch the shows to get to it#and then in the process fall in love w the shows#sometimes i watch a show half for the fandom and then just never read any fic like x files#loved the show but dont really get the fic landscape for it. plenty of good art and meta and blogs and edits but not into the fic#theres lots of good stuff but it aint for me#or like. i watched pacific rim half to just understand and read all the pacific rim aus#i watched some of stargate sg1 just for fic#i did not like the show so i quit once i understood the context and meta etc#fandom

I think there exists an au version of s4 somewhere where basira sorts jon firmly into "us" instead of "them" and consequentially gets pretty on board with him forcing statements from strangers. maybe in a world where she was elsewhere on the boat when he slorped floyd matharu's brain and only sees him use his powers on breekon and manuela, so when she gets the tape from martin her reaction is "...you should be more discerning about your targets and keep to the monsters, but I'm sure you only did what you had to do."
