Chinese Mythology: ↳  Longmu was a Chinese woman who was deified as a goddess after raising five infant dragons. She and her dragons developed a strong bond for each other, and have thus become an example of filial devotion and parental love, an important virtue in Chinese culture.

Faerie Etiquette: What to do if you meet one of the Fair Folk
Okay, so it’s about 8pm and you’ve been stuck in the house/office/classroom/another-indoorsy-place-that-can-be-annoying-after-a-while and you think to yourself, ‘I could really do with a spot of fresh air’.
It being summer and only just dusk you decide to venture down the local nature track. What you may not realise is that this is prime faerie time. Yep. It’s the best time to find the fair folk weaving their magic around the woodland, especially if it’s a full moon.
So what on earth do you do, if you catch a glimpse of a wing or they decide to grace you with a full encounter? Faeries have very particular rules and if you don’t follow them the consequences are not so good…
Here’s a guide of eight rules that our ancestors thought should be obeyed in case you happen to meet any member of the fair folk on your little evening jaunt.
1.) Never accept a Faerie gift.
I know it’s a present and I know it appears free but just DON’T. Because if you do, you owe them one and it’s not whole, 'Thanks, Oh I’ll buy the next round of drinks at the pub’ kind of owe them. You owe them anything they choose to ask for at any point.
Tumblr media
2.) Do not eat Faerie Food or drink Faerie wine.
Even if it’s chocolatey-fudge sponge cake pudding oozing with caramel and it looks sooooooo delicious. It probably will be delicious, so delicious that no human food will ever quite sate your appetite again. Side affects may be madness then death. Also there’s a possibility that you’ll be trapped in the faerie realm.
3) Do not follow the music and step into a fairy ring.
Little circles of toadstools are a no go zone on your hypothetical evening stroll. The little natural wonders were said to hold fairy dances. The music coming from the circle was so exquisite that any passer-by would feel an imminent desire to join the dance. But there’s a bit of a Narniaesque issue with fairy time. An hour in the dance might be a few centuries in human time. Also there are some gruesome folk tales where the human can’t keep up with their immortal companions and they dance until their feet become bloody stumps. So maybe you should avoid fae music unless your’re prepared to possibly give up everything you know and love, including your feet.
Tumblr media
4.) Don’t tell the Faerie your full name.
This is the whole name=power thing, if you give them your full name they’ll have a certain amount of control over you. Apparently 'the reason we have middle names is because the faeries cannot steal a child if they do not know the full name.’* So be proud of your embarrassing middle name and avoid divulging it to any strangers you meet in the woods, no matter how much they insist they won’t laugh.
5.) Be polite, very polite, very very polite.
You’re going to be refusing gifts, food, wine, the best dancing experience ever and you’re not even going to tell the fairy your full name. I mean it’s kinda rude, isn’t it? So you’re going to need to use expert flattery to get yourself outta this one. Also faerie’s were thought to be a little over fond of their reflection** so maybe give them a little compliment on their outfit?
Tumblr media
6.) But don’t give them any clothing (unless it’s designer)!
So you’ve commented on how nice their outfit is and they return the favour by remarking on your shiny new scarf ,that you bought from the Bargain basement. In fact you’re tempted to give them your shiny new scarf, thinking it’ll be enough to excuse yourself. But don’t, because Fairies hate cheap clothing and misers. So when they’ve found out about the tatty quality of your scarf expect some mischief in return.
7.) And whatever you do, don’t say Thank-you!
Thank-you is fairy blasphemy. They have went and offered you all of these things, you’ve politely declined or accepted, and then you fall at last tricky hurdle, thank-you. In Faerie speak it means you owe them something in return, you owe them a favour, and who knows what that could be?! Also in some folk tales faeries who had helped a human used to get a bit annoyed with the 'thanks’ they got in return. To them 'thanks’ seemed like such a little reward for all the trouble they went to.
Tumblr media
8.) Don’t mention you’ve got a new born child at home or you know someone that has.
So you’re looking into the distance, trying to think of an excuse that requires you to leave. Then you remember little Timmy, you suddenly think, 'oh yeah, I can use babysitting little Timmy as a reason to make my exit.’ But don’t, your ancestors were massively scared of their youngin’s getting swapped for an old fairy. They thought faeries had to take in human babies to replenish their race and that they often nabbed new mothers as well because their milk helped young faeries. So don’t use little Timmy as an excuse or you might be living with a faerie in place of a family member.

Having had glitches as a GoogleMaps beta tester, this is absolutely a real-world fear I carry now.
oh you're in a horror film/book and your phone died/has no bars? how boring. I think phones in horror SHOULD work. they should ding only to have the protagonist check and find nothing. they should get calls from somebody you don't know but is still somehow in your contacts. google maps should lead you to one place, no matter what address you type in.
phones are such a big part of our daily lives, removing them from horror removes the horror from our experience. what if the horror felt like it could happen to you, right here, right now? what if it felt like it was already happening?

Honestly, all of this! If you wouldn't bully a child today, why are you bullying the child you once were? Unless you were a racist piece of garbage, in which case, carry on.
It's common for things that were wildly popular in pop culture to suddenly get a surge of hate and dislike (Hamilton, Steven Universe, Glee, etc etc) what was once beloved is now cringe, so on and so forth but what is the DEAL with people (millenials) making fun of themselves at 13 or whatever for dressing so tacky 😩 ugh this UNBLENDED MAKEUP 😭 like ma'am!!
You did this because it was popular and trendy in 2010 and because you were 14!!!! Are we just going to constantly look back a decade and go ew gross disgusting 😒 at pictures of ourselves? Is the outfit too cringe for you?? Too dated??? What is now cringeworthy was once something you liked immensely who cares!! Who CARES!!!
are you going to be worrying about the things you watch and listen and wear now because 10 years from now it might be out of vogue??? What an awful way to live

I haven’t been on tumblr for quite as long as a lot of people but over several years I’ve noticed this interesting gradual sorta,, shift in the general culture? that it went from this mostly depressed, nihilistic outlook where people would regularly joke about hating themselves and being hopeless and depressed, to a wave of vehemence of “STOP hating everything actually the world is Good and you deserve love!!!” type posts, to now, where those aggressive ‘PSAs’ have faded away and instead I regularly see people romanticizing simple things like stars and hot tea and rainy mornings, and waxing poetic about their friends, and just trying to put love out there. and I don’t know exactly what that means (someone who knows more than me could probably say something smart about generational expression and trauma or popular perception of mental health and whatnot), but I do know that it makes my heart very full to see people learn to love the world and themselves by extension, and a whole userbase adopting healthier coping mechanisms, and therefore teaching the younger users to do so as well. I might just be following different people, but I really do think we’ve grown. everyone has grown. five years ago it wasn’t unusual for the next post on my dash to be a scathing commentary on why nothing matters or an anon ripping into someone they barely knew or someone complaining about how pathetic their interests are. now I have mutuals who get excited and spam reblog art of cows and friends I see tagging each other in pictures of frogs and strangers writing paragraphs about how much I matter. it makes me happy. idk. just an observation I wanted to make. I think people are good and everyone’s just trying their best at the end of the day

Hmm... I haven't been on Tumblr in months, and then it was only a single brief moment, but this new to me artist is on Tumblr still so I'll give them a follow for support.
*logs in after some struggle*

This shit is one of the reasons why I stopped using this platform. My own Catastrophic Bullshit Bingo card gets full in a single damn login. WTF?

Walmart is recalling nearly 4,000 bottles from a line of aromatherapy spray products linked with a bacterial disease outbreak. A bottle of “Better Homes & Gardens Lavender & Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones” tested positive for B. pseudomallei, a rare and sometimes deadly bacteria that causes melioidosis.

Cats are just as much a reflection of the person keeping them as dogs are. Small minds don't deserve the love they are capable of giving.

I read the original post as trans inclusive. Then again, that's coming from a perspective that automatically recognizes the spectrum of the community and exceptional risks and harm our trans family continue to endure.
Also, I agree with the notion that "transphobia" needs to be changed to the more accurate "trans hate" because these hateful walking trash certainly don't "fear" trans people. The narrative that trans hate originates in fear is giving hateful people an excuse they don't deserve. You avoid things you fear; you don't go out of your way to confront what you fear with the intent to attack in some form be it verbal or physical. Trans hate is hate, and if that's something you align with or can't comprehend, you need to seek education elsewhere because this tired teacher doesn't have the energy for hate trolls.
🏳️‍🌈 remember 🇷🇺
while americans and europeans celebrate Pride, remember us. remember that pride is illegal in Russia. remember that we are silenced and shamed by our government and by the society we exist in, that our human rights get violated every day. remember that russians carrying rainbow flags will be beaten and thrown in jail this summer. celebrate and protest, but remember that we can’t.
