The ladies from The Priory of the Orange Tree
It’s been a while since I’ve fallen so deeply in love with a book. And when I love something I usually feel the need to make art.
Also, it’s funny how my style has changed a bit since I started drawing more digitally, I like it.

hi!! happy saint george day, here's your rose: 🌹i was wondering what is the equivalent of the rose that grows from the dragon's blood after saint george strikes it in the world of the priory? bc a t first i thought it was the orange tree but since there's no mention of it , i'm not sure now... anyway, i loved the book and i can't wait to read more of your work! 💕
Ah, this is one of those asks that’s really made me smile because no one’s caught it before:
For those that aren’t aware, St George’s Day is celebrated in Catalonia with the giving of roses and books, based on the idea that, when George slew the dragon, a rose (or a rosebush, or many roses) grew from its blood, which he plucked and gave to the damsel.
In Priory, I make a small reference to this Catalan element of the legend by symbolising Ead and Sabran’s love with a blood-red rose. Like the rose in the story, both women’s houses/societies sprang from the blood of the Nameless One, and ultimately, their love would not have existed if not for that blood being spilled. I also liked the idea of the rose being passed from woman to woman, rather than man to woman.
