The word 'scent' is currently fucking w me. like. this GODFORSAKEN, MOTHERFUCKER of a "word"

No. but. like listen. I know what it sounds like. But I don't think you understand.

This asshole just shows up fucking somewhere. And I don't even remember where. and kept me up 'til 6 AM bc here's the thing(TM)

Scent is pronounced in the same way the words 'sent' and 'cent' are pronounced. ok? but these words all have very different meanings

'scent' obviously means scent y'know. a smell.

'sent' is send in past-tense. to have something delivered or to deliver. but like yesterday. i guess.

'cent' as I'm sure you're aware, is a noun 'a cent'. just a fucking piece of metal worth a cent.

And this isn't the problem. english has plenty of this shit. and yeah is really fucking annoying. but we live with it.

My problem is that one (1) it's not just that they sound and are spelled alike. it's that they mean things that are SO different. which should help. context clues and shit. and it does. EXCEPT FOR WHEN YOU'RE SPELLING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN NOTHING MAKES SENSE ANYMORE.

Two (2) I spent actual time looking into this. and. as far as I can tell. the 'c' wasn't added 'til the 17th century (though I could be wrong about that) which means that, up to that point, 'sent' and 'scent' were just. spelled the same? I guess???

And last but certainly not least. Three (3) which fucking letter is silent??? Bc I looked it up. and istg. nobody agrees. like. Excuse me. What? they just. don't agree. Like some places sources? Sites? Whatever were saying that the 'c' is silent. bc we're making an 'S' sound when saying the actual word. And THEN there are these like shitheads or assholes or Smart People(TM) going "well technically neither is silent. Bc 'c' always sounds like 's' when it's before an 'e'" and I'm here like dude it's 4 am I don't need this shit right now bc I was just feeling the ADHD and. Honestly. This is stirring up some complicated feels ab the English. and how it does it's language business. like English you're being unreasonable, this shit is unfair, you can't just language like that.
