I don't understand the focus on electric cars

I was cycling here on vacation in the Netherlands and they made this street with two giant bike lanes on each side and enough width for a single car.

Traffic can go both ways and there's enough space for when two cars intersect, just gotta encroach on the bike lanes. But that doesn't happen very often because almost nobody takes their car on this road unless absolutely necessary.

The bike lanes are made of asphalt too and the car space is made of cobblestone. This is nice because the cyclists can go fast and be unbothered by the cobblestone, while it forces the motorists to slow down.

And I realized when I was riding on it, why the fuck are we putting so much of our attention on electric cars when we absolutely should be focusing on our city planning, better public transport, better cycling infrastructure, and just ... better alternatives to fucking driving everywhere!!

GUESS WHAT, using an incredibly large and mega-heavy car that also now needs a ginormous battery with fucking lithium, and using all of that stupid energy just to haul your sorry ass is wildly inefficient and frankly stupid in every way.

Our governments need to step up and start redrawing and redesigning our cities NOW!
