You know what makes this little moment so heartbreaking? This is the real Finnick. This is Finnick immediately after the jabberjay incident where he hears the screams and cries of his beloved Annie. And what does he do to calm himself after that traumatizing ordeal? He sits in the water. He just wants to be surrounded by something close. Something familiar. Something that reminds him of Annie.

Annie tried her best to hide the yawn that was slowly creeping on her. Finnick barley got home, and she didn't want to spend her time sleeping, not yet at least.
                                                                         "And we'll talk tomorrow?"
"But we’ll talk tomorrow, my love" he whispered in her ear. "I’ll be here when you wake up"

Finnick crashes into the clearing to find me wiping my arrow clean with some moss. “Katniss?”
“It’s okay. I’m okay,” I say, although I don’t feel okay at all. “I thought I heard my sister but—” The piercing shriek cuts me off. It’s another voice, not Prim’s, maybe a young woman’s. I don’t recognize it. But the effect on Finnick is instantaneous. The color vanishes from his face and I can actually see his pupils dilate in fear. “Finnick, wait!” I say, reaching out to reassure him, but he’s bolted away. Gone off in pursuit of the victim, as mindlessly as I pursued Prim. “Finnick!” I call, but I know he won’t turn back and wait for me to give a rational explanation. So all I can do is follow him.
It’s no effort to track him, even though he’s moving so fast, since he leaves a clear, trampled path in his wake. But the bird is at least a quarter mile away, most of it uphill, and by the time I reach him, I’m winded. He’s circling around a giant tree. The trunk must be four feet in diameter and the limbs don’t even begin until twenty feet up. The woman’s shrieks emanate from somewhere in the foliage, but the jabberjay’s concealed. Finnick’s screaming as well, over and over. “Annie! Annie!” He’s in a state of panic and completely unreachable, so I do what I would do anyway. I scale an adjacent tree, locate the jabberjay, and take it out with an arrow. It falls straight down, landing right at Finnick’s feet. He picks it up, slowly making the connection, but when I slide down to join him, he looks more despairing than ever.
“It’s all right, Finnick. It’s just a jabberjay. They’re playing a trick on us,” I say. “It’s not real. It’s not your… Annie.”

Annie regretted those times she left him. Because while she was gone, she thought of nothing, it was black darkness, just like the nighttime during the games. And she was terrified. Sometimes, if it wasn't Finnick's voice that brought her back to reality, it was the booming of a cannon that made her cry out.
But he was  always there to cradle her
He was always there to tell her everything was fine. And he'd remind her of things before the games. The way she was before, before the fear took over her, and she was really happy.
                                                                                    They both were.
A gentle smile was on her face once again. There was never enough time to spend with him. Never enough time for her to really express herself towards him, like he does to her. Annie closed her eyes gently and breathed in the sent of the capital that was on Finnick, that mixed with the salty water of the ocean that was on Annie.
                                                                                  Now it was real.
Annie nodded her head slightly, His hands were warm, surprisingly soft, against hers. And everything felt right in the moment. Everything felt real.

"Okay... You didn't eat without me, did you?"
Though, Annie knew the answer to it, she still asked, just to make sure. She always asked to make sure.
There were times when Annie would leave him. It was never her fault. She was a kind being who endured too much evil and death. There were many things in this life Finnick wished he could change, but one he’d give anything for.
                                                                                                     Annie’s game.
What she had to see made her this way, and while he loved her still, it was unfair. She didn’t deserve this. More than anyone —
                                       She didn’t deserve this.
He would wait still. Finnick always knew she’d find her way back to him. There love was undeniable. The connection between the two of them wouldn’t be stopped. Not even by death. They would always find each other, and Finnick would endure the hottest fire to ensure that.
“I will always wait for you, Annie.”
His large hands took her small ones in his. His forehead pressed against hers gently. She was his, and he had to take care of her.
                  “Come on. We’ll eat together.”

Annie smiled warmly at the boy. It was Peeta, no doubt about that. The boy didn't change his physical appearance of course, but it was the first she had seen him up and close.  "Finnick doesn't really like to talk about his life behind the capital... And I understand. It makes him easier to stay away..." Annie said with a small nod. Finnick had told her once before about it, and she believed him. She believed him because it was the truth, and he never lied to Annie. Never.
She winced as his hand moved towards her face, only to brush a stray of hair behind her ear. She let out a sigh of relief that the boy wasn't going to hurt her. She was still haunted about the games, on what she saw. It was terrifying.

"I... I would love too... not many people like to keep me in company..."\
"I am Peeta," he replied, a kind smile playing onto his lips. "And you’re Annie. Finnick hasn’t exactly told us about you, but I can tell from how he acts what you must mean to him." He brushed a stray hair behind her ear gently. He could see the fear in her eyes, saw her jumped when he moved too quickly. Yes, it seemed that the Games had taken quite the toll on Annie. She seemed kind enough, though.
"Would you…like to talk?"

                                    "You're Peeta."
Annie pointed out, smiling slightly at the man who stood in front of her. She knew who he was, never meet him officially till now. She's known of him, of course his victory of the Hunger Games had stunned everyone, but not only was it the Games. Annie had been boarded with him while escaping the capital.
They never spoke to each other on the train, but Annie knew how important this boy was; especially to the Girl On Fire.
