So imagine you're Gerson. And there's a prophecy with 3 heroes that inspired you to write a series of novels that changed your life and the lives of many others. the prophecy is the foundation of your town's religion, which your son has dedicated himself to.

You get brought back to life and meet the three heroes, and within 5 minutes one of the little weirdos turns to the other two and says

If we assume the "voice" in the code is/was Dess, I think the recurring nightmare she mentions puts a lot of context to the stuff in her room. Underneath that cool, fearless older sister exterior she was incredibly scared, paranoid even.

Her bed is in a weird position, facing away from the closet. She has a bunch of army rations and multitool knives. Maybe she just liked collecting those things, but I feel like there's more to it. I think she was worried that something bad would happen. Maybe she felt that something was lurking in the dark. Considering the implications that she (and probably Kris) was led to the shelter by SOMETHING (Friend, maybe?), it could have exploited those fears, or could have been the cause of them.

Notice how the Knight looks a bit like one of the titans? And titans represent fear? What if Dess' fear consumed her? What if she became her fear?

deltarune gerson simultaneously hits the meta knowledge, troll personality, "everything is going to end" speech, "I'm living the epilogue of my story" attitude while ALSO finding new hope for the future in a very determined kid from sans, undyne's justice and conviction in a good ending despite the odds, the miscommunication and complicated parent-child relationship from toriel and flowey AND han sooyoung's metafictional thesis on creativity and passion as an author from orv. AND he's cocky and has a stupid accent. it's like toby condensed every trait that makes me insane about a fictional character into a single motherfucker. no wonder i went insane

its so fucking funny when ppl get mad at deltarune having kris be their own character who goes against you like "but that's stupid, i just want to be able to play the game without kris getting in my way" THEN PLAY ANOTHER GAME BRO 😭😭 these people act like every other video game doesnt allow the player to do whatever they want and project on the protagonist. THE WHOLE POINT IS IT'S A SUBVERSION

I'm thinking of kris repeating berdly's name in shock when you try to tell ralsei that you are going to the festival with berdly of all people. Thinking about the conversations we only get to hear half of, where kris presumably tells ralsei and susie that ralsei and asriel don't look that much alike. Thinking about all the times where kris changes the prompt we give them into something that they'd prefer to say.

Kris talks. They chatter, even, but we as the player don't get to hear it. They don't get a text box. We only ever know that they spoke at all from the reactions of other characters, and even then, we rarely know exactly what was said.

And part of this is that whoever the deltarune narrator is seems intent to pretending like kris doesn't exist. You check the mirror, and it says, "it's only you". Kris plays the piano and it says, "your hands begin moving on their own." If kris speaks without your permission, the narration doesn't acknowledge it at all, committed to the lie that kris doesn't exist beyond their role as our vessel. But that's not what this post is about.

This post is about how it's entirely possible that kris has tried to talk to us when no one else is around. They could have tried to tell us their plan, or begged us not to make certain decisions, or explained that we don't actually need to steal asriel's 5 dollars because they have a piggy bank buried in the front yard. Kris could be asking us questions, or asking us not to look for the bunker password because they have a plan and we should trust them, or asking us to let them sleep a bit longer, and we the soul just carry on the same regardless, their one-sided monologue falling on deaf ears. We would never even know, because of how thoroughly the narrative of deltarune has denied kris a voice.

i had a dream spamton was trying to convince kris to drink "Big Shot Formula" and every time kris would try to dump it out or pretend to drink it but pour it out instead, spamton would use some kind of rube goldberg-esque contraption to recapture every single drop. then he'd be like heyyyyy looks like big shot formula's back in stock :^)
