Luc Delahaye is French documentary photographer.
His portfolio consists of the documentation of political and world conflicts. What attracts me to his work is his use of soft color in intense situations and settings that adds an emphasized emotion and connection to his images.
Luca Delahaye has twice received the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his documentary work.

Andrea Modica is a documentary and landscape photographer. Andrea Modica is from New York and teaches photography.
What attracts me the most about her work is that her mages, especially her portraits, are simultaneously striking and have with them a tenderness that gives them a softer quality. Her landscapes also give the feeling of and serenity through their lighting and textures.
She has received the Knight Award for her works.

Hiroshi Sugimoto
Born in Japan, but moved to New York, Hiroshi Sugimoto has received many grants and awards for his photography.
His work tends to be striking yet minimalist with an emphasis on sharp focus and composition. His architecture and interior photography show great lighting and vibrant colors
My favorite works of his are his “Diorama” series that he created in 1974 and again in the 90′s. These images have that painting like quality that I enjoy in photography.

Sally Mann
Sally Mann’s has a darker aesthetic to her work. Her landscapes are haunting with her use of vignette and dark image processing. Even her portraits have that ghostly presence to them, often with extreme composition and edginess about them.
Sally Mann is an American photographer with an extensive body of work with many books published. In 2001, she was named “America’s Best Photographer,” awarded by Time magazine. Her work has been celebrated through documentaries and a memoir of her life.

Lois Conner
Lois Conner’s portfolio boasts beautiful landscapes as well as documentary work. What I like most about her work is the way she creates texture to her images, whether it be through double exposure or using unique subject matter. Her choice to utilize a panoramic crop brings extra magnitude to her beautiful and striking landscapes.

Project No.1 | Proposal
ART182
a) Subject-
My subject will be a series of landscapes in Fresno that are in contrast of each other. For instance, concrete infrastructure contrasted with a lush green meadow. Both landscapes take place in Fresno, but each have different qualities.
b) Why this subject-
This subject matter works best for me in my practice with large format photography. I need a subject that won’t move so that I can take my time with the camera and composition. I also find these two conflicting sides of Fresno to be aesthetically pleasing. I want to highlight how relieving it is to see foliage in a grey cement cityscape.
c)
I will create by images by visiting different places in Fresno County and photographing aspects about them that juxtapose each other. It will often be in natural light because it is what I prefer. The places will most likely be public for ease of access and time.
d) Overall Objective -
I want to appreciate nature and my outside environment, by stopping those moments in time, because the landscape will often change over the years. I would like people to walk away with appreciation and respect for their surroundings.
