Specialist Practice- Will it Blend?
For this project we were given two words each. Following the words, we have to come up with 6 pieces of experimentation to blend the two words together and visually show our interpretation of the words.
My words: control + soar
Here I have come up with two different lists of synonyms for each word to help me come up with ideas to blend the two together.

This list has helped me discover different meaning of the two words. I thought soar was describing something that's flying clouds high and always floats up in the air or flies, but actually it means take off which had me envision planes. This also relates to control as a plane takes off in a controlled manner. I personally think that control and soar compliment each other as we see this in nature and how birds have so much control when they fly, visualising this in many wild animals such as squirrels as well. I think potential ways of experimentation that I'd love to do is videography, screen printing, drawing, mixed media, collage of imageries, digital collage. Those are only a few that I will look to persue in the next couple of days.

Evaluation of the whole project as a whole
SWOT Analysis
This term has allowed me to understand deeply how to connect to my target audience through choosing the design elements for my outcome. Even though I have changed m idea and brief mid-through the project I am happy with the way I have pushed myself and persevered. I tried always reflecting on my audience and always connecting everything to my research. I think the outcome was successful and visually communicating the troubles marine animals face.
What I could have done better was not give up on my first initial idea. I feel like I have chosen the easier option rather than fighting to figure out a solution for the first. I have allowed myself to overly panic and made an irrational decision which can't happen in the future. I also needed to cut things from my process book, but I have displayed everything on my tumblr and on time this once. I have ran into issues and that really set me back due to being stuck in the creative block. Next time I need to look into ways I can find fresh perspective and ask my peers for their feedback as well as approaching multiple lecturers. I am still working on managing my time and this is something that still requires work.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to create my own brief this term that has allowed me to explore areas of design that I enjoy. Even though I have not done exactly what I hoped to, I learned valuable skills in replying on my research of guidance rather than deciding and being stuck on a decision. I have gone back to illustrating which is something I missed doing and haven't done for a while and learned how to construct my own briefs from tweets which will be helpful for constructing personal projects outside of university that will help me grow as a designer.
What has threatened this project as i have mentioned previously was my failure in conducting further research on a situation to solve the issue that has led me in making a drastic decision and changing my brief completely rather than seeking someones help and advice. This will be something that I will change in the future and remember since I have learned from this mistake.
Overall, I have really enjoyed the process, the feedback and the way I have pushed myself and I can say that I feel proud of the outcomes I have created. I will look to reflect back on this next year and look to improve.

Final Posters
Evaluation
This project has been a roller-coaster. Overall, I really enjoyed the outcome and the process and most of all the research. I have learned so much more about marine life in the past two weeks than I have ever know. It is sad knowing that they are in dangerous and not many do anything to help. I liked the experimentation that I conducted inspired by jenny Berry and I enjoyed finding visual ways to communicate what we are doing to marine animals and what will happen if we don’t make a change. I think I was successful in reflecting on my target audience and research throughout it and determine my outcomes based on the audience I have designed for. This has thought me valuable skills and opened my mind to always questioning my design choices and reflecting on my target audience to find the best solution to target them and speak to them. What could of gone better was my ability to problem solve, due to my struggles with the initial idea I felt like I was stuck and every solution I tried coming with kept being turned down and made spiral. In the end I gave up on the idea and that has made me restart the whole process and from scratch. This was an irrational decision which I know I will not be able to do in my final year and I have learned from it and next time I shall prepare myself and review my ideas a couple of times before going forward with them so that I do not waste time. I have taken the feedback given and applied it to my work also which has allowed me to see different perspectives to my work.

Poster Sketches
I have sketched out multiple layouts of the posters that visualise where the type will be placed and the image. I have wanted to use my experimentation of the illustrations since I think they have so much potential. I have asked my friends what they thought and one suggested if I could put the type behind the illustrations which would make it stand out more and visually appealing. Since I want to use my type I want to experiment with it.

Last Tutorial
Since I couldn't attend last weeks tutorial I have just continued on my progress in the marine life brief. I have booked a tutorial with Mark and presented him my change in briefs and what I am working on. He has advised me that I shouldn't change my brief more than half way through my project in my third year which is something that I will not do again. He said that I should connect everything to my target audience including my outcomes and to reconsider the magazine since it won't be appealing to my target audience and suggested i asked my colleagues if they read magazines and guaranteed that most of them don't. therefore if i wanted to raise awareness to Gen Z it would have to be something other than magazines. Looking at Gen Z I have acknowledged that they use social media every day and my best approach is probably creating a social media campaign as well as posters that can be distributed everywhere in designated areas such as bus stops. This was very helpful going forward. Mark also suggested that my research into target audience should guide my design choices, therefore I will look to create something that is appropriate to my target audience based on the typeface I choose and illustrations i create.

I really enjoyed drawing marine animals. I have used my IPad and procreate to achieve these by using a watercolour brush and a ink brush. I used some grain brushes to add texture and imitate Jenny Berry’s style. I think it makes them stand out and makes them each unique. I have only done three animals who are mostly endangered now and those are the ones I need to raise awareness of. I think those will connect to an audience Gen Z since these illustrations are simple but also realistic and won’t create a brutal imagery but visually communicate what I want to get across.
