This is just a video about how sources all cite each other and they ultimately are going off of another few sources from a few hundred years ago that used vague language and misinterpreted each other.

Because knowledge can be a ridiculous game of telephone.

How do you know what you know?

Your senses aren't actually trustworthy.

How would you recognize truth if you saw it? You have nothing to compare it to as a baseline.

But it isn't Wikipedia or the internet that is the problem.

Epistemology is the study of knowledge, and how we know what we know.

But I think it is equally accurate to say it is the study of doubt.

If you believe that true knowledge is impossible than you are an epistemological nihilist.

Or pyrrhonian skeptic as we are sometimes called.

But that does not mean you can't or shouldn't work on your suppositions. If something seems like a positive thing to do, than you should still do it.

But questioning what you know will not hurt you, because we are all just casting about in the dark anyway.

So you don't have to feel bad for not knowing the right answer.

(Pyrrho was a Greek philosopher circa 270 b.c. who may have traveled to, or had contact with the linguistically/culturally Greek kingdom of Bactria, in what is now called the Indian subcontinent ---and therefore been exposed to Buddhism. But it is really hard to verify anything about it. Which is not irony. It's the opposite. He would, I'm sure, be very happy with that. Smug even.)

I would just point out that there is actually a better example of a cognito hazard that is ttly present everywhere. So you don't need roko's basilisk.

You know how the stock market is based on this imaginary number that has to keep increasing in value or it's not doing well? (I mean, essentially)

And you can't just make a numerical value increase forever because of physics?

And the weird Eldritch horror of capitalism is insidious and the people in charge are worshipping that imaginary number and even sacrificing each other to preserve it?

But also, "don't work against it". The powers that be will punish you for working against it. Just like the basilisk in the thought experiment.

Trypanophobia or belonephobia is fear of needles and injections.

I have it to a more than moderate degree. Enough that my trip to the dentist tomorrow is freaking me out, and enough that I faint when receiving a shot. (I don't have tattoos or piercings either.)

But NOT enough to actually refuse medical care. I am up to date on all the vaccines and boosters.

But it is absolutely anxiety producing. And I wonder how much it affects healthcare in the US that so many ppl have this problem. (Especially considering that access to healthcare is hard to come by in the first place)

I don't have any good techniques beyond what Google says.

But I really feel for that one in ten people who might see this, and maybe, like me, you know it is irrational, but that doesn't stop the phobia at all.

And you just grin and bear/bare it.

I honestly wish I was afraid of heights or something instead. But I'm not. I have no fear of public speaking or snakes or anything that can be easily avoided.

So if I had the choice of giving a public lecture or having a needle pierce my skin, boy you better believe I will extemporize something to say to that auditorium.

But no one's health depends on giving a speech in normal life. And most everyone should be getting medical care.

It sucks. But be brave [I say out loud.... but I bet I don't sleep tonight]
