What order should we read Doukyseei in? (I probably spelled that wrong my bad lol)
That is a very good question! With all the different series, it gets a little confusing!
Please check out @astearte ‘s master list here! It has all of the mini stories that most of the manga sites don’t include! It’s absolutely wonderful, thank you for putting this together!! Otherwise, a basic rundown of the series is as follows:
So first is Doukyuusei (classmates) which is also what the movie is based off of. It’s where the two meet, fall in love and start their relationship. However, chapter 8, 9 and the DVD extra should probably be read after you read Occupation to Beloved so you don’t get confused. Just keep that in mind! Please purchase the official English translation here to support the author!
Next is Sotsugyousei (Graduates) and it’s about their how their relationship grows and continues as they finish their high school careers. Please purchase the official English translation here and here to support the author!! I own all of the books so far and they are wonderful!!
After that is Sora to Hara the spin-off series for Harasen and his love life. It doesn’t have much to do with Sajou or Kusakabe, so if you don’t really care about Harasen, this series is optional.
So then next is Occupation to Beloved and it’s about Sajou and Kusakabe as they figure out their relationship post-high school life. However, there are also some stories interspersed about some new couples/characters/stories that are unrelated to the boys. I have found you are able to skip those chapters and it doesn’t make much of a difference.
And then we get to Blanc! This one is later in their relationship still when they’re starting to struggle with the harshness of real life. So far, there’s only 5 chapters officially scanlated and the rest that are out are available here on my blog. However, please check out @chibisunnie ‘s text translations of chapters 6, 7, and 8 because their translations are much more accurate than mine!! They really do such great work, thank you!! ♡
And then, finally, if you still haven’t had enough, there’s Futari Gurashi (Living Together) which is an extra comic coming out on pixiv about their lives as they just started living together. @kusajo has done great translations of chapters 2, 3, and 4! (you can find chapter 1 here)
So that’s it!! There’s certainly sooo much and it’s hard to have it all in one place, haha. I find it to be such a sweet and realistic series. If you’re willing to brave it, I hope you enjoy it!

So, because i love this series and because i wanted to find everything and i needed everything in one place - this is where you can find more stories about Sajou and Kusakabe in right order (hope so). Neat shit: --- (on audience, the worth of this story for adults and teens/kids) Personally, I wanted to tell a story as an adult about the problems that youths have, to show that their pain is not impossible to understand, that we can experience it together. The generational gap can be overcome. The youths have been told that they are to blame for their own problems, but that's wrong. It's not your fault for having problems. I think it's unfair that the youths are always told that they're not good enough according to an arbitrary standard. You see, anime is generally watched by people in their teens and twenties. When those people become adults and interact with young people, with their own children, I feel like they mustn't force adult ideals upon them. I did make sure to frame it and have the acting convey that sense of discomfort - that way you can see how uncomfortable it is when an adult strikes a child. From the child's perspective, it's terrifying. I wanted adults to be able to see through that perspective. So is this series aimed at adults as well? I want adults to see it, I want young people to see it. ------- (on art, interesting) That's right. I think that hand-drawn animation has an appeal that can't be captured through computers. I wanted to focus on the characters' movements in order to convey a sense of realism, so that you can get closer to the characters' perspective. They feel more tangible that way. If you rely too much on layouts that are unrealistic or manga-like, it'll feel more like you're watching a theater show or a stage play, and the audience will find it harder to identify with the characters. That approach has a strong impact, but you might lose sight of the characters as people. I thought if I used too much CG, that might end up happening. I think that the animation in Stars Align is a decisively different form of expression from live-action. I was taught that animation is an abbreviation and an embellishment of reality. If you just replicate reality as is through animation, it comes off as hollow. By abbreviating and embellishing, you can get closer to the essence of what you're depicting. When you reflect reality as is, you don't get closer to the essence, but by emphasizing and abbreviating “it”, you can depict it. I think that's the magic of animation. I feel like some creators have been forgetting that in recent times. --- (on sexuality+gender) You see, in live-action television, love between men is treated as comedy. It's a similar case overseas as well, like in America or Europe, and I couldn't help but feel uneasy about it. I always thought there was something wrong about it. Through talking with him (trans man), I understood that this kind of plot shouldn't be mere comedy. When he told me that he'd been questioning his gender ever since he was a child, it made me think about the struggle we all have to reconcile our identities and where we belong in the world. The scene in the anime is not just about same-sex relationships but about finding our place in the world. It's about all kinds of things. Gender identity is a part of that as well. Finding that purpose in your own being is something that everyone who participates in society has to do in some form or another. I wanted to make use of that in my story, or rather have it as one of the themes. You don't really see much of this kind of thing in anime, do you? I mentioned before that it's presented as comedy, and I think that's awfully insensitive. Questioning your gender is a perfectly valid thing to do. I think that anyone who has ever questioned their place or reason for being should be able to empathize in some way.
