CH. 10 YOUR TURN FIELDWORK
I chose to research an article about Kanye West and how he's acted over the years for Max Weber's theory of the three P's (Power, Property, and Prestige) and division of labor and tasks. While also mentioning how people were so loyal to him despite the fact that he said a lot of unforgivable things because of who he is. This article discusses how Kanye has said and done some outrageous things over the years. While being supported by his fans despite the fact that what he would say or do was very ignorant and distasteful. They also mentioned that when he did these things, no one would notice because it was Kanye and he said random things all the time. However, he is currently being punished and his actions are being recognized as a result of what he said about the Jewish community. And I believe this has something to do with Weber's theory because Kanye is a well-known, famous, and iconic rapper. People initially turned a blind eye because of who he is and the power he wields over the music and fashion industries. As a result, they let it slide, dismissing it as a joke.
For Pierre Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital and how it relates to values, norms, knowledge, and beliefs that are valued in a society, I decided to conduct research on Donald Trump and how he was able to have such a large cult to follow him and why they do. And because of his values, norms, knowledge, and beliefs, he is regarded as a god-like figure by some, which allows him to be such a huge figure.
According to Karl Marx's theory, the capital class (bourgeoisie) owns the means of production, while the working class (proletariat) works for conflict and capitalism. I chose to conduct research on The Great Divergence, which occurred during the industrial revolution. Some of these articles discuss how the industrial revolution was one of the great divergences because certain people became extremely wealthy very quickly as a result of the new machinery. And because these people become wealthy quickly, these former peasants who were close to those wealthy people were envious of them and had that opportunity. And this is related to his theory because of the conflict between the different classes.

CH. 6 YOUR TURN FIELDWORK
Unfortunately, we are not able to fulfill the requirements of this assignment fully because of personal relationships going on within my family. However starting on my father's side, there is not much information except for knowing my grandparents are from Colón Panama and there is where they had my aunts and father. My dad and his siblings moved to new york when the youngest turned 18 and after 7 years of being in new york my dad and one of my aunts moved to New Jersey where they started their new families. On my mother's side, my grandmother was born in Roanoke, Virginia, and moved to California at the age of 3 because her father was in the military, and after a few years, they all moved to Philadelphia where my grandmother met my grandfather at the age of 17 while working in a kitchen at a hospital. My Grandfather was born in Savannah Grove, South Carolina but moved to Philadelphia at the age of 14. When they were both 20 years old they decided to have a child and that's how my mother was born. My mom was born in west Philadelphia and lived her life in Philadelphia until 1994 when she had my sister Akira. My grandparents, mom, and sister moved to Lumberton New jersey in 1998. In 1999 my sister Ayanna was born and in 2003 I was born. In 2007 my siblings and I moved to Philadelphia with our mom and lived our lives there for a few years. In 2012 my mom had my little sister Ani and soon after we moved back to New Jersey with our grandparents in 2014. 2014 was also the year my nephew Cayden was born and 2019 is when my nephew Coyote was born. This is honestly the only family information I can access right now.

How Is Race Constructed Around The World
Microaggression
Tumblr media
Microaggressions are characterized as routine, everyday slights and insults that send hostile, disparaging, or negative messages about a person's race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion. This picture, which is attached, shows the microaggressions that students experience in schools. A classmate made a snide remark about a boy, saying that he was only so good at sports because he was black. It makes no difference to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation if they are skilled at something. One of the strangest things I've ever heard a white woman say to a black woman when she was working with me was: "I didn't know black people's hair grew so fast." purely because she saw her wearing braids after seeing a small ponytail the day before. She had no right to say that. . These microaggressions, no matter how small, have the same effect as the more intentional, harmful slurs.
JIM CROW
Tumblr media
Jim Crow laws emerged as a result of the abolition of slavery. These laws were put into place to keep Blacks and Whites apart while also letting Black people know which race was still superior. This entry is a disgusting representation of the Jim Crow era in America. Black people are not permitted to enter the town after dark unless they have a legitimate employment excuse, according to a sign in the picture. This is particularly heinous because, as I suspect, White people felt justified in attacking or killing Black people in the evenings because the law had previously stated that they shouldn't have been out at all.
White Supremacy
Tumblr media
White supremacy is the idea that white people should rule society because they are a superior race. The Nazis and other groups that emphasize white supremacy want to make white people the only superior race that exists. This frequently occurs when microaggressions occur, for example. Non-POC individuals think they are the solution to all of the world's issues and that their lives revolve around them. Now that everyone is accustomed to it, it has become natural.
Miscegenation
Tumblr media
Miscegenation is the copulating of individuals who are thought to be of various racial types. Back then, intermarried couples were forbidden, and if they had children, the children were referred to as bastards and other derogatory terms based on race. Interracial marriage and occasionally even sex between people of different races were illegal under the anti-miscegenation laws, which were used to enforce racial segregation at the level of marriage and intimate relationships.
Hypodescent
Tumblr media
Hypodescent is the classification or identification of a biracial or multiracial person as belonging to the lowest-ranking racial group in terms of social status. In the United States, this rule was targeted and applied, as in the case of Susie Phipps. She assumed she was white because she appeared to be it at birth. But in 1977, when she asked for a copy of her birth certificate, she discovered that she was identified as "colored." A Louisiana law mandated that anyone with even a small percentage of black ancestry be considered black. As a result, Phipps' legal case was lost because the state was able to prove that she was 3/32nds black. Of course, the rule does not apply in reverse. Any black person with white ancestors would not be seen as white or get treated differently.
Race
Tumblr media
Race is a faulty classification scheme that divides the human population into presumably distinct groups based on physical traits The term "race" was initially used to describe groups of people who shared a language and to denote national allegiances. By the 17th century, it was used to describe physical characteristics.

The Culture of Consumerism
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XQtLhwubwJ4KjTsTUFb1lfQu55SCY3rbDJydAfM3ZHc/edit
After doing this assignment, I have found out that I personally think I am very minimalistic. After listing the things I own most are basic needs to live and very few are used for entertainment purposes. Being minimalistic allows me to be very simple as in having a basic tv, an older phone, and minimal decorations. I also found out that a lot of my needs may be what others want, such as needing 4 pillows or my MacBook pro. My dog is also one of my comforts when I'm feeling anxious so I use a pillow of him to sleep and a magnet to remind me of him. I use a lot of small sentimental items for comfort. However, the biggest thing I learned is clutter and messes make me very anxious; I prefer to keep things put away and closed.
(I took a video and its on a separate post because it wouldn't let me add it here.)

Making the familiar unfamiliar
http://www.toiletpaperhistory.net/toilet-paper-history/paper-towels-history/
Tumblr media
Today, paper towels are widely used, but their history dates back to 1879, when two brothers from Philadelphia, Clarence and Irvin Scott, founded their paper company. They started producing tissue papers which each roll containing 1000 sheets and costing 10 cents per sheet. Philadelphia experienced outbreaks of an epidemic in 1907. After noticing the epidemic, a local schoolteacher had the brilliant idea of cutting square pieces of softer notebook paper and giving them to the kids. He began giving out soft paper to his students who were sick with the flu. Arthur Scott the son Irvin Scott and the owner of Scott Paper Company heard the news of how this teacher decided to eradicate the spread of germs between students. This led to the creation of Sani-Towels from a cartful of discarded toilet paper, he made his first batch of paper towels with the slogan "For use by one user only,".
Paper towels have a huge impact on peoples lives. Paper towels are useful in restrooms for hand drying, cleaning, and medical purposes. Paper towels help keep a clean and germ free environment. When making paper towels Arborist people who cut down trees must be physically fit and have stamina to endure the strenuous outdoor processes of climbing up trees, cutting them, and carrying huge pieces of tree bark. The next part of the process involves Paper Mill Workers. Paper mill workers deal with things such as asbestos which increase the risk of pleural mesothelioma which is cancerous. Paper mill workers operate heavy machinery, deliver the finished paper goods to customers around the world while putting their lives at risk daily.
