When walking around and looking at each person’s story or a little snippet of their story it just confirmed most of what we as African-Americans go through. This is just a personal experience of what they had to go through. It was nice to be able to see what their wishes were and to be able to understand the reasoning and the growth that they had overtime in response to their problems. They each all belong to the same ethnicity, well I will put them in the same group of ethnicities and of course they would probably identify themselves as different depending on each person but walking around most of them at the same sort of experiences.
One thing that was common with the idea of this imagined community in Germany with African-Americans. One main thing that I saw when reading was a young female being excited for the wall coming down and ready to bond with this black community this German community she thought they all would be.
Another key term that I realized happen was multiculturalism, When walking around I witnessed with a few people that went on to study in Germany for arts or for school just to get up at education, they had to order under their own culture and then go along with the cultures of Germany. Overtime the more some of them stayed in Germany they grew to assimilate toward the German way. Although they faced many afflictions being African American some wanted to fit in and adopted the culture.
One last key term that stuck with me was one lady who experienced being black and the genocide of Jews during the nazi period. She realized that as someone different we have to endure so much and many more complications than others. Being German and black was rough and as we can relate now being black is always feared.

Post 6/6
Racial ideology- This picture is an example of Racial ideology, racial ideology is the separation of categories based on stereotypes and race in this cartoon we see that the mail is only shot at the end because he’s black and the last panel he says he’s dead because he’s black the only reason he was targeted was because of the color of his skin which is a racial stereotype.

Institutional racism- In this post we see institutional racism, School is an institution and in this post we see that although this math equation has one plus one which is supposed to equal to it equals one because the black child is not supposed to get the education as a white child. Meaning that the black child is not going to get education while the white child is which is racism because we are all supposed to be equal.

Microaggression- The main definition of micro gression is the communications that could be hostile or derogatory towards certain races and are definitely insulting. Although to this guy doesn’t seem insulting or recess at all in the big picture the person that is Indian or conforms to an Indian culture it is a racial slur her and very derogatory so this is a big example of black or aggressions and how it’s so easy to do.

These photos both still discrimination based on race, this is a common conception of racism meeting their discrimination based on the color that you have. In the first picture the squirrel the darker squirrel is discriminating against the law to squirrel with no other cars except for skin tone. In the next picture is the only reason that the guys being questioned by police is based upon the skin tone that he has the white man is doing the same exact thing but is not being question this is an example of racism.

POST 1/6 field work
This is an example of colorism which is a form of racism, colorism is a discrimination with darker skin tones. And this picture is showing what some people most people during the times of slavery had to go through. If you were lighter than the paper back to us you were considered excepted it if you were darker you were considered projected in the society.

FIELD WORK
After taking careful observations for the day and reading the article and watching the video I’ve come to realize that most of the hand movements that we use are very common. Understanding that gestures in the Italian community is very important I pay careful attention to the types of groups I was observing. The first person that I observed was my professor, I wasn’t able to get a video of this but I realized when this professor wanted to hint at something that was important they would repeat it over again and use a circular motion with their hands. When looking around campus specifically in the library I realized that one of the three images that I have used were often happening. The first rubbing of the temples with your fingers most kids are stressed and frustrated while they did their homework, handshakes most people did when greeting other people usually in study groups, and the last one would be when someone would accomplish something like a project or figuring out a homework problem. Most of the hand gestures that we have used and continue to use are not as important in my opinion in our culture, we use it mostly to emphasize things but it’s not necessarily needed. For example, when observing my own friends I realize that most of them don’t use hand gestures we would use facial expressions and expressions using our heads to better understand certain things. For American society we use universal hand signs as in waving hand shakes high-fives most things you see in other countries we don’t specifically have like in the Italian community gestures that really represent something. If we were to only use gestures it will be harder to understand one another where as in the Italian community you can basically have conversations with only hand gestures. All in all during this field work assignment I have decided to look more carefully into the way people use their hands and maybe come up with answers as to why they do this instead of using another way.

FIELD WORK 3
For this field work I decided to go all the way upstairs in a dorm building that I used to live in. The students call it the sky lounge, I think it should be mentioned that I am in New York for the weekend and not at Morgan state. I was drawn to this location because I spent a lot of time here during my first year so coming back to it it felt nice and relaxing. In this lounge there is a big screen TV a group of chairs and couch facing the TV. On the other side which is not drawn in my picture there are sections of seats for people to sit down a microwave a water filter and A sink for people to wash any of their bowls or belongings out. I never realized how many people come to the sky lounge to do homework when people usually come to this lounge it is to watch a movie because of the big screen TV and hang out with their friends, but there were a lot of people doing homework assignments possibly because it’s a quiet space most of the time. What is absent would be tables, in this area when you think about hanging out with your friends most people bring snacks and drinks and things to munch on when watching a movie so I would think it would be useful to have a table to set your things on, even for doing homework it’s nice to be able to put your computer or laptop and books on the table. During this time that I have observed it was on a Friday I decided to come back on Sunday and sit for another hour the atmosphere has significantly changed from studying to relaxation I observed more people going up to the sky lounge and actually watching movies or hanging out with their friends and laughing and just catching up from the week that had just passed. Overall this is just a gathering place where everyone who lives in this building most likely has come up to this part to either get away and find some quietness or to engage with their friends it’s a very diverse area and that’s what I love about it.

For me this assignment was pretty hard, because I am currently living in a hotel for temporary housing I was not able to bring as much stuff as I would have if I were living in a dorm or living at home. The reason why I separated categories two and three was to show the idealistic norms that are society holds. In American culture or society we tend to hold or value things as needs where in other countries they are seen as wants. For example, brushing your teeth is seen as a need in our society it is a basic hygienic need. We believe that everyone should brush their teeth it’s a basic need to be seen as clean, yet in some parts of other countries they don’t have the tools, a toothbrush, to brush their teeth with so for them brushing their teeth is not a part of their culture or their daily routines so it is not seen as a need. In our society we have a hard time deciphering what is a need and what is a want. The way that we grow up and the way that we learn we see wants and need very differently. In my personal opinion the only things that we need in life are basic necessities for survival meaning food, shelter, and water, those are the materialistic things that we need in order to survive everything else is a want not a need. This assignment has really taught me what I can live without and the amount of things I can live with and things that I have an excessive amount of that I should probably give away. This assignment was great to show how our cultures differ from wants and needs, we see a lot of things in our world that we think are needs but are actually wants and we get to see how good we have it in America.

Fiji is a bottled water company. This company was founded in 1996 by David Gilmour under the name Natural Waters of Viti.
The main ingredient of this product is water, the main source is from Yaqara on the north shore of Viti Levu this is also the largest island in Fiji. The water comes from natural springs, meaning that this water used was just a natural resource of the land.
The impact on the organization of Fiji for the community is terrible. Because of the large military forces in Fiji most towns have little to no job opportunities. Their opportunities were very limited. When Fiji came around they produce jobs for a limited amount of people in the surrounding villages. As technological advances grew less people needed to work in the factory, their jobs were taken over by machines that could do the job faster and quicker and produce more in a smaller time slot. For the people of Fiji their minimum wage earnings $2.32 an hour or nine $92.60 per week. This can be seen as one of the four components of globalization, flexible accumulation. This is an example of outsourcing, whereas if they were to be manufactured in the United States we would be paid an extremely higher amount of money. This product is mainly consumed in America. We use the resources of this place and the people of the community bottle and ship it to us so we can enjoy the water supply. Most people would think that because this water supply is in their land they would be the first to have a supply of this water. I was shocked to know that most of the people in the surrounding towns and villages don’t have a clean supply of water and most of the time their drinking water is contaminated from the pipes and tanks that the water comes from. Someone might ask, why have the Fijian people not take it over the water supply. Why would you allow another country to come in and take a very big resource and use it as their‘s? I wanted to understand and know the same thing, because of the money shortages compared to the United States that the Fijian people have they were not able to purchase the correct infrastructure to get access to the resource of water. The Fiji water company underground aquifer isn’t tapped for the local population.Fiji is mainly consumed in the US it is packaged the bottles in Fiji and sent over for consumption buy United States consumers. For children in Fiji it has greatly affected them because they grew up with a contaminated water supply they cannot get the nutrients that they need resulting in more sickness for the children. If you do you have a strong military lead, meaning that most men are groomed for military, so the women are left at homes with little to no job opportunities. In the U.S we typically pay$2-$3 per bottle. For a full package of Fiji bottled waters it can go anywhere from $18-$25. The social cost of producing this water is that it does help the fusion people at all, using the plastic bottles does not help our economic waste problem. In the longer run we are hurting more by consuming this product rather than helping.
