Jal Neti In Sharkarama there are 2 types of Neti, Sutra Neti and Jal Neti. I have already posted a video on Sutra Neti earlier. While sutra translates to thread, jal means water. In the Sutra Neti video you saw a thread / rubber catheter being used, in Jal Neti we will use lukewarm water with a pinch of salt to cleanse the nasal cavities. The sticky mucus originally traps the germs and other waste from entering the lungs through the mucus membrane and only allows filtered air to reach the lungs. The mucus membrane also regulates the temperature of the air in the nose, if air is blocked due to the nose bring stuffy, the air conditioning effect is also lost. Lukewarm salted water when poured into one nostril should flow freely from the other, thereby cleansing the nose. Expel the water from the nose after completing the kriya. Benefits of Jal Neti: 1. Heaviness in the eyes & brain and blockages in the ear & nose are removed. 2. Throat becomes cleared and vocal cords energized, so speech develops clarity. 3. Improved vision since blood flow in the eye capillaries increases thereby cleansing the carbondioxide deposited in the eye region. 4. Since water flows along the nerves that go to the ear, disorders in the ear are cured. 5. Allergies caused by pollen, smoke, dust, animal hair etc are cured. 6. Headache and migraine goes away. 7. Insomnia and tiredness vanish. 8. Common cold and Sinusitis are cured. 9. Since this practice activates the brain, people with epilepsy benefit. 10. Over all health is improved since pure air enters the lungs. Frequency: Can be done daily. Should ideally be done before pranayama and asanas in the morning. Should compulsory be done after Sutra Neti. Precautions: People with nasal bleeding shouldn't do without guidance from experts. Ensure that you use salty water to do this kriya. Since salty water has greater osmotic pressure than plain water, water will not enter the delicate blood capillaries. #ambarishsanthanam #ambarish #ambarishsanthanamyogi #ambarishyogi #yoga #shatkarma #shatkriya #shatkarmayoga #shatkriyayogi #jalneti #sutraneti #madalasastudio #shreeyogashala #gherandasamhita (at Bangalore, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrRPHMyhxZD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=qdehenqt38w2

Shatkarma are cleansing practices that are done to keep the body free from disease to enable the yogi / yogin to do their asanas, pranayama, meditation without hurdles. Imagine one sneezing all day and wanting to practice yoga. Neti Kriya is one among the 6 various forms of body cleansing. It is used to cleanse the head region, and the nadi’s relating to sight and inner parts of the nose. Jal Neti and Sutra Neti are the 2 Neti kriyas in Shatkarma.
This video show how to do Sutra Neti.
Contra indications: Those with severe nasal bleeding and nasal problems should consult an expert before practicing.
