This lesson I have rearranged my work and back over my work and realized that most of my work need much more research and much more ordered so I can understand the work better. I have also figured out the order of my research portfolio and how I will be structuring it so it is easier for me to understand and pull out parts that I still need to do.
We have done some self-assessment and have now realized what we need to do next.
I have also moved my Research Portfolio onto a word document so i can structure it much easier myself.
At the beginning of the lesson i was at a 1 or 2 with how i was feeling, i wasnt feeling very confident and i didnt feel like i understood what i had to do for this assignment but now i feel as if i have some understanding looking back at the brief and the criteria.

Project Planning - Lesson 3/4/5
Project Planning: Unit 1 – Individual Project
Lesson 3:
Hypothesis-
Hypothesis is a statement or a question. Like a theory or something to achieve. To research the idea and see if you can prove and develop it. Topic of research.
Another way of thinking about hypothesis is an area of research or a line of inquiry – helps narrow research focus. Specify research points.
“The role of social media in production”
Ideas
How social media and cultural trends can change products/change previous products?
Brands that have successfully used social media to increase sales
How social media use historical and social context..
How newly developed technology helped social media in production?
Differences between advertising before social media and after social media in production?
How advanced technology has given us multiple social platforms for production to be distributed worldwide?
Class ideas:
Citizen Journalists – increased use of people's media - accuracy
How trends influence media production?
Social media – arena of the young, the change between younger and older people – differences
Social media as a leaking platform - what steps are films/tv shows are trying to stop this from happening? Recording different scenes – stops bystanders from filming
Streaming and video game sales -
How trends make their way into movies – being badly immortalized
Change in tech and change in consumption – increase in platforms, TikTok – reuse of music – memes – things being made popularized
Influencers and platform promotion
LESSON 4:
My Hypothesis:
To what extent, has digital media marketing on social media platforms changed the distribution of Television Production
Squid game – marketing – how social media helped.

Primary research:
Questions that we can use:
How many ads a day do you see on the TV?
1-3
4-7
7-10+
Other
Do you still watch TV:
Yes
No
If you said no, why?
______________________________________
What social platforms do you use the most and why?
Instagram____________________________
Facebook _____________________________
Snapchat _______________________________
Tik Tok ____________________________________
Other_______________
How often does your phone software update and does this impact your social media applications?
Explanation of which primary research methods I may take:
I plan on doing two sets of survey’s the reason being I can do a qualitative survey that gives me the more statistical elements to my hypothesis and I will do a quantitative survey in order to further on the statistics in order for me to prove my hypothesis. The surveys will be random sampling to achieve the best results because otherwise people may feel obliged to answer positively to your questions. So, in the qualitative data survey I will be using closed questions but with a “other” option so they don’t feel pressured into picking an answer that they do not believe is 100% correct. In the quantitative survey I will use all open questions where they have to either write a one sentence answer or a long answer. But the questions on the Quantitative survey won't be too long this is because the respondents may get bored if they are reading long questions.
Another form of primary research I would undertake is an interview. I would do this by writing down pre-planned questions and going around to a few people either in college and on the streets, first ask them if they do not mind answering a few questions, or I could put on social media platforms if anyone is okay or available for me to interview them. It will be mainly 18+, but if I do interview younger generation, I will ask their parents or careers. The interview should take 2-3 minutes each, quick snappy questions. I will conduct at least 10 different interviews for a wider Varity of responses and then conclude through their responses whether the hypothesis works or not?
Primary research is reliable and more up to date, and you can counteract the bias’s.
Secondary research:
Secondary research should have reliable sources.
Accuracy – verify the information
Authority – make sure the written by a trustworthy author/institution
Currency – how up to date the information is
Coverage – is it covering the correct information you would like it to
These are the four things you must check for when looking at secondary sources.
To what extent have changes in social media since 2015 effected the consumption of advertising.
“Social media cannot be understood without first defining Web 2.0: a term that describes a new way in which end users use the World Wide Web, a place where content is continuously altered by all operators in a sharing and collaborative way (Kaplan and Haenlein 2010). “It is much more to do with what people are doing with the technology than the technology itself, for rather than merely retrieving information, users are now creating and consuming it, and hence adding value to the websites that permit them to do so” (Campbell et al. 2011, 87). Web 2.0 has evolved from simple information retrieval to interactivity, interoperability, and collaboration (Campbell et al. 2011)” (Major Papers by Master of Science Students | Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design | University of Rhode Island, 2021)
LESSON 5:
Video notes:
Summaries in 3 lines on a post-it notes
Simple language in plan
Range of opinions and how they relate – in groups – dominant, negotiated and oppositional – audience theory
Strengths and weaknesses of the arguments
Show your own understanding
Don't use ‘I’, use it shows in the research..... or in the research it produces.... or this suggests that.....
Body of essay should support your hypothesis
Talk it through with your family
Relevance
We also did a tour around the library and we saw where we can find some books and resources that we can use.
To what extent, has digital media marketing on social media platforms changed the distribution of Television Production
Introduction:
Point 1:
Point 2:
Point 3:
Point 4:
Conclusion:
the last thing that we have done before focusing on our assignment was how to structure it.

To what extent, has digital media marketing on social media platforms changed the distribution of Television Production.
To what extent, has digital media marketing on social media platforms changed the distribution of Television Production.
Introductions: what digital media marketing is and means, what platforms there are, what I’m trying to explore, how do TV companies use social media for marketing. A short intro into web 2.0
Point One: web 2.0 – how the internet has evolved, technological changes
Point Two: successful marketing campaigns – squid games,
Point Three: Primary research – what i found out from my own sources
Point 4: has it changed the distribution – positive/negative
Conclusion:
 Introduction:
What is digital media marketing? Digital media marketing is where companies or brands advertises their products or upcoming products through social media, emails, television, etc. It’s a method that brands use to get more audience responses and feedback. Audience can respond to brands through comment sections on Instagram or they can message them privately. The literal meaning to digital media marketing is advertising, it's a distributional technique. The types of platforms that brands use mainly are Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc. For example: Netflix upload a lot of the upcoming shows on Instagram which entices people to watch. Below is two snippets i took from Netflix Instagram page, these snippets show how digital marketing has changed on social media through the use of showing the audience bloopers/behind the scenes of the show so the audience are able to personally identify with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(2021) Netflix has separate pages for promoting their work, they have Netflix UK and Netflix US. This shows how global Netflix as a company is.
TikTok has been the most popular social media platform during COVID-19, there have been more people creating their own brands and distributing their products on the app. TikTok is mostly know for challenges, the challenges get shared publicly and people try and redo them.
Tumblr media
(Ultimate TikTok Brand Leaderboard: The Top 10 Best Brands On TikTok, 2021)
Companies that are most popular at the moment are Nickelodeon, ESPN, and Netflix.
Point 1:
What is web 2.0? Web 2.0 is how the internet interactivity has advanced over time. This would give digital media marketing an advantage when posting their adverts on social media to get distributed globally. An example of web 2.0 on social media which distributes projects is on Instagram you can now click a link which takes you to their website that they have or a place to buy their product. (What is Web 2.0? - Definition from Techopedia, 2021). An example of Web 2.0 socially for TV production is apps like Prime Video or Disney +. Prime video has free movies and Tv show distributed on their apps. They advertise new shows that have come to Prime Video through ad’s on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube. These are commonly Pop-up ads that pop-up if the audience is similar to their target audience.
(not finished - am i on the right tracks?)
Point 2:
Squid games campaign made the show more successful. Squid game became the most popular/watched show on Netflix after being out for only a week, a lot of youtubers like Brent Rivera, Ben Azelart, Alan stokes/Alex Stokes all have recreated their own challenged versions. Squid games also became popular on the newest app TikTok where people would do the ‘honeycomb challenge’ and ‘red light, green light’. This helped get the word out to people world wide like a word-of-mouth campaign technique. the show became a popular trend and still is trending in November.
Squid games ads have been described as ‘dystopian’ just like the show. A lot of companies have produced their own advertisements like the current trend squid games to distribute their products. For example: Durex the ad for condoms/sexual health used the honey comb symbols in their campaign. this was shared on Instagram where people can share, like, and comment. They also use hashtags such as ‘#playsafe’, ‘#Squidgames’ - these reference directly to squid games. They also use the slogan/text ‘How long can you last?’ as a direct question at the audience but also is a reference to squid games because the game is about completing challenges and winning.
Tumblr media
('Squid Game'-inspired ads are almost as dystopian as the show itself, 2021)

Point 3 - Primary research - still waiting on responses
Point 4 - advantages and disadvantages to changing ways of TV production distribution -
Conclusion

This is one of the campaign links that I will look at, this shows how digital marketing was a success for the production. This will link very well with my hypothesis which is “to what extent, has digital media marketing on social media platforms changed the distribution of Television Production”
This will be one of my points in the assignment.

Lesson 1
Introduction to Individual Project
In this lesson we were introduced into what this UNIT was about.
>what role might social media play in production, and as a means of promotion?
This was the first question/task. My responses were:
>use social media for advertisement posts - on Instagram you see these a lot where people promote brands and tags the brand they are either using or wearing, they also give us the links to the websites
>tv shoes are promoted on social media - Disney+ use social media to advertise new shows being added or new episodes
>a lot of celebrities use social media to promote other brands - the Kardashian’s promote each other’s brands.
>on Facebook you can create business groups which is a form of promoting the production
>YouTube use a lot of ads in videos or before videos - paid promotion
> lots of small brands promote their products on the newest app called TikTok because of how recent it is.
These are the classes ideas:
Tumblr media
We then went on to talking about Primary and Secondary Research: primary is where you create research materials such as surveys and you get responses directly to you, this can make it more accurate and trustworthy.
Secondary research is done by someone else and you reference it in your work to try and explain your point and you analysis in detail the secondary research to fit your hypothesis.
Secondary resources that are lots trust worthy are:
> articles
> books
> university pages/ educational institutions
> healthcare professionals - NHS website
> Google scholar
Primary and secondary research are needed to justify, analyse and explain your arguments.

Social media and promotion
“ Social media presents potentially seductive opportunities for new forms of communication and commerce between marketers and consumers. As advertisers typically want to find some way to follow their target audiences, many new media opportunities are presented to advertisers. However, we are still social media pioneers. While the boom in social marketing appears persuasive with an estimated 70% of consumers visiting a social website for information, other research points out that 90% of WOM conversations still occur face to face or by phone, and only 7 percent occurs online. In contrast to traditional advertising media such as television, there are measurement and consumer behaviour modelling issues that will need to be addressed before marketers that measure and manage their media investments will be able to fully embrace the opportunities and navigate the risks presented by social media. Ultimately, advertisers will be forced beyond the “oldschool” approaches to adopt many of the principles and techniques of relationship marketing in order to effectively use social media and likely the multiple niche co-creation of products and services.”
