Performance day and reflection on performance:

I was happy with today’s performance as I feel the audience response was exactly what we wanted, however there were a few bits that I can now see looking back needed adjusting. For example, our audience were meant to stand but unfortunately because of how we start (on the ground in foetal position) we were unable to get up and tell them once they had sat. I feel this may have taken away from how active the audience felt throughout and it made it very hard to get them up for the rave scene at the end. Once everyone was up and in the rave scene it felt like a bit of a rabbit hole in the middle which I absolutely loved. The audience reacted way better than we had thought they might which made us very happy. We also struggled with vision in our masks as in the Edric we were able to have the stage much darker than we had ever had in the studio. Because of this we were slightly out of time on somethings that we have rehearsed to death and never been out of time on. This was a shame, but overall we had a positive response from our audience and enjoyed each moment of the process and performance.

Tech rehearsal and notes:

- Need to adjust grid walk to slightly smaller area

- Pen shape needs to be altered in order to protect projector

- Transition between mother cow and gauze needs to be reassessed for lighting purposes

- Need to make a get-in and get-out plan in order to be efficient

Tech plan:

1. Video of animal heads on the back wall playing as people enter and audio of distorted voice playing to introduce the world 2. Audio beat for walking circuit plays at end of last audio clip and walking begins video of animal head (keep this on?) overlooks during this 3. Mother cow music playing   4. Light behind gauze off and projector on gauze with the blue turning to black 5. Projector off, music continues for bag scene until everyone is stood 6. End of the world audio disrupted by loud techno occasional voice speaking about end of the world occasional panic, music being really loud 7. Party audio telling people about party poppers 8. Screams etc inserted into music and is it poss for Arthur to start countdown on screen for end of the world 9. Arthur can you possibly start a countdown from 10 on a mic or something??

This is the track we are going to use in end scene but we need to add to it. Think Trump climate change statements, street preachers, individual voices and mad DJ over voice?

Mother cow scene, lots to do.

- Amélie work on beginning in time with the music (a count of sixteen at the start resolves this)

- Lily, hold legs once you have swung them in order for them to stay. Need tension in thighs so they do not slip

- Lily and Amélie need to work on emotional narrative and its growth through the repetition

- Billie and Emma work on emotional relationship with each person on stage not just each other

- Lets try a run of this doing it completely frantically and out of sync with music

- When emma pulls Amélie away, there needs to be a struggle in order for it to make sense

- Get rid of the stamp

- Find a different way for us to be placed down

- Experiment with ways in which we can smoothly transition in to the gauze from where we are

If anything makes you angry, document that as well.

People describing what the art IS in such a fixed and superior way. It felt smug and selfish as if defining what it was allowed them to own it, it was theirs and they understood what others couldn’t.
