Tribute to my late grandma who was born in the year of the dragon. It’s my first Chinese New Year without her and I miss her so much.
When my parents divorced and essentially abandoned me for their new families, it was my grandma and grandpa who made sure I still felt loved. Without their care and guidance I probably wouldn't be here today.
Continuing the “terrarium” series~ One of the things that’s been helping me during quarantine is tending to my aquarium and trying out new teas. What’s been helping you lately?
In other news, the lump in my hand is still there but I’m going to slowly get back into drawing. Hopefully as more things are opened again, I’ll be able to go to the hospital and get surgery. In the mean time, new art post will be slow Q_Q
Some updated pics of the terrarium! The little fittonia is dead, Nimrod trampled and dug it up, I think the shock to the roots was too much even after I replanted it in a safer spot. She also managed to kill a pothos. Currently we have a pink nerve plant and snake plant that are doing pretty good. I plan to find her some more hardy plants, maybe try a fern or a brom. I also have a back up pothos I am growing out a bit before trying to plant for her again. Turns out she just loves digging up plants 🤦🏼♀️
Other stuff in there:
• 2 cork bark tubes & a slab
• 2 hammocks
• multiple fake plants until I can get enough live to provide cover (the new pangea vines are so good!!)
• 2 soap dishes with moss
• mushroom ledge
• Oak leaf litter
• hanging coconut hide
• driftwood & birch branch i collected
• feeding ledge & water
• substrate: organic topsoil, peat, coco fibre mix with dwarf white isopods and spring tails (clay ball drainage layer separated with mesh)
• lighting: 3.0 26w UVB and aquarium LED panel on 12 hour light cycle
• heat: ultratherm mat on a thermostat thinking about changing to deep heat projector in the future
I’ve always found the lifecycle in aliens to be really cool, and I wish it was used in fiction more.
The real life variations that plants take with their multiple adult forms should be explored more in fictional creatures.
