Should You Complete a Yoga Teacher Training?
Almost every yoga studio has a yoga teacher training program. If you train consistently, you have probably seen the instructors talk to learners about it. For the right people, completing a yoga training can be life-changing step.
But it's important to know what you're getting into since classes are not organized to tight, if any, high quality specifications. While studios can pay to become authorized with Yoga Partnership, an approval to show yoga schools and instructors, they don't have to. Even studios that are authorized are not firmly controlled.
I learnt the hard way that not all yoga teacher classes are reasonable expensive. Of the six I've completed, only one was truly worth the money and time. If you think you are prepared to become a qualified yoga instructor, ask yourself these questions before you decide to say yes:
1. Are you a good fit?
In my opinion, yoga teacher training only advantages people who want to educate. It's a good concept to have at least two or three years of encounter as an individual before you consider educating yoga. The best trainers make the best instructors.
If you basically need to learn about yoga and expand your exercise - but don't know if you want to educate - there are better options for you. Some studios have immersion programs, for example, which can be good for learning system. In them, you focus exclusively on learning yoga by learning the poses, the exercise and the philosophy behind it. Once you finish an immersion package, you will probably have a much better feeling of whether or not you want to educate. If you choose to enroll in the teacher training program, you'll have a strong foundation of knowledge to develop on, what will help increase the bar for those who are really serious about training.
But beware: Lots of studios do not have any specifications to enroll in their training. In one of my training programs, a personal instructor who had only trained yoga twice was also approved to get his yoga certification.
2. Do you have the time?
Most teacher classes are 200 hours. They are usually offered in two different formats. One is a long program where you meet for one end of the week a month for about seven months. The other one is an extensive, month-long coaching where you be present at training every week day for six hours each day. Either way, the training is a challenging task. Be sure to look forward at the coaching approach. Don't commit unless you're prepared to change your programs accordingly.
3. Is the studio reputable?
Look for a training that holds you accountable with projects, has an obvious program and makes expectations. A training that needs you to have basic knowledge of yoga before enrolling, conditions you exercise consistently and is well-planned is a program you'll likely get a lot out of.
4. Do you connect with the teacher?
Because yoga is such a personal encounter, and training is very romantic, it's important to choose the right teacher for you. To get a feeling of how you connect with a potential teacher, be sure to take his or her class at least 10 times and pay attention to the educating philosophy. If you feel comfortable with it and trust the person educating the course, and he or she is an expert, organized teacher, you'll be more likely to enjoy your teacher training encounter.
A yoga instructor's certification is like a diploma. You really should have one if you plan to educate yoga. But the truth is, most studios are more concerned with you completing their in-house training than the certification. That's because teacher classes are the biggest source. Alignment Yoga at Ananda Yoga & Detox Center
Koh Phangan is a HUGE destination for yoga in Southeast Asia. You’ll find all kinds of yoga and yoga related activities on this island, and we love it all: hatha, vinyasa, alignment yoga, acro, chanting, meditation, therapy, laughter, children’s, yin, and so many others!
At Ananda Yoga & Detox Center, we’re offering alignment yoga because it is one of the best ways to accommodate different skill levels, abilities, and body types within a class. Our yoga class schedule is kept up to date on our website.
What is Alignment Yoga?
Alignment – Finding the optimal arrangement between various parts of your body to maximize the flow of prana & grace.
Here are some reasons why alignment yoga is important for your yoga practice.
Clear Instructions for: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced Students
Body awareness opens up new possibilities for all students. An understanding of where to lengthen, contract, extend, rotate, and engage will allow for a greater freedom of movement, with less pain and discomfort.
Beginner students are given precise instructions on how to discover the general shape of the pose.
Intermediate students will skilfully unlock more advanced postures as their understanding of anatomy grows.
Advanced students will learn to connect muscular engagements with flows of energy, and truly deepen their practice.
Safely Practice Yoga Poses
Performing some yoga poses incorrectly can be dangerous. Straining muscles, ligaments, and tendons will do more harm on your body than good.
Alignment yoga teachers have a strong understanding of anatomy. Instead of receiving vague descriptions, you’ll receive strong and enlightening cues.
Vague Core Instructions
If you’ve been to enough yoga classes, you’ve probably experienced the teacher who uses the soft, yet higher pitched faux spiritual voice…
“Expand your inner light, and bloom outward from the flower of your heart.”
Precise and Clear Core Instructions
Hopefully, you’ve also experienced a knowledgeable teacher with an intelligent command of language…
“Energetically pull your navel back to your spine, and then lift that energy upwards through the crown of your head. Notice the muscular contraction between your pelvis and ribs. Feel your chest rise and your abdominals become firm.”
We prefer and embody the later.
Develop a solid understanding how your body works, and you will do all forms of yoga better!
Optimized Energy Flow
The better your alignment, the more optimal the flow of energy or prana is throughout your body.
Everything that we do involves energy. Not only our movement, but our interactions with others and relationships are an exchange of energy.
When we align our bodies properly, and improve our posture, our energy is uplifted. Our conversations and enthusiasm are more positive and engaging. This directly affects how we treat others and the karma that we spread.
Whether you’re awakening your kundalini, expanding your consciousness, or just enlivening your spirit, alignment yoga will clear these energy channels for a more powerful practice, and a more engaged life!
Realign the Body From Daily Activities
Most people spend a lot of time hunched over a desk and keyboard. We spend a lot of time sitting down, or doing repetitive movements that misalign our bodies.
Working on correct alignment in our yoga poses, helps us to realign our bodies from the misalignments that our day-to-day activities cause. These misalignments can cause all sorts of problems from back pain, stress, sore joints, sciatica, low energy, migraines, and more.
The physical practice of alignment yoga helps us to find balance within our bodies.
Would you like to experience our alignment yoga in person?

Top 3 Reasons to do Yoga Teacher Training
If you’ve thought about doing a yoga teacher training on a tropical island, then you’re not alone! There is no better place to step outside of your day-to-day routines, and connect with yourself in a meaningful way. The thought of doing this somewhere extremely beautiful instantly takes your mind there!
We have graduates of our Yoga Teacher Training Thailand and Yoga Teacher Training Koh Phangan program from over 30 different countries. We’ve asked them what are the 3 main reasons that our students have chosen to take this course.
Deepen Your Practice:
All of the students who come to our training want to learn more about yoga; improve their understanding of what their body is supposed to be doing in these shapes; and connect the dots between the physical practice (asana), with pranayama (breathing techniques) and philosophy.
Our training delivers on all of these points.
One TripAdvisor reviewer summed it up like this:
The program is heavily focused on precise, correct alignment using props including blocks and straps. This makes the teacher training program accessible to both beginner, and students who have a dedicated personal yoga practice.
Our group of 14 was an eclectic mix of mothers, a couple, young men, and women. It was amazing to be apart of an international group of friends that progressively grew together as timid students to becoming confident yoga teachers.
Our confidence came from hours of hands on practice-teaching, dozens of asana (posture) clinics that taught us how to get a student into correct shapes using simple verbal cues and adjustments. The clinics were very extensive and detailed giving you a strong foundation of knowledge to teach a class and/or enhance your personal practice.
I can assure you, your perspective on yoga will drastically change. Not just in your physical practice on the mat, but on how you live your life, your expanded awareness, and human evolution.
Become a Yoga Teacher:
Our Teacher Training program places more emphasis in teaching methodology than many other courses do. Our graduates leave feeling confident and competent to teach a yoga class or private instruction.
Our teachers graduate with the ability to teach with clear, precise, and direct instruction. Students find that their understandings of postures improve dramatically through the expert instructions of Ananda Pure Yoga teachers, and this is a standout trait of the graduates of our programs.
Many of our students have gone straight from our training to teaching in their local yoga studios, or even as traveling yoga teachers.
Have an Amazing Yoga Holiday:
This course includes:
28 nights of accommodation on a tropical island,
3 vegetarian yogi buffet meals per day,
2 Thai massages,
daily access to our salt water pool and herbal steam sauna,
and a beachfront location that offers the most spectacular sunsets.
Are you ready for your yoga teacher training?
The people that you’ll meet and spend this time with will become dear and lifelong friends. We have trainings scheduled throughout the year to accommodate your next travel plans.
You’ll Deepen Your Practice, Learn to Teach Yoga, and have an Amazing Yoga Holiday all at the same time!

Introduction
Yoga has been a part of Indian culture for as long as it can be remembered, but it was only the 50's when this discipline started to gain a wide following among people around the world. And as we continue to be conscious (and cautious) not just about our physical health but also about our general well-being, there is no doubt that yoga will be more popular as ever. Its benefits are just too great to ignore. So if you're looking forward to a fruitful career as a yoga teacher, now is the time to take yoga teaching seriously.
Tips in Choosing a Yoga Teacher Training Center
Before you can teach yoga, you must have undergone rigorous training and education to make sure you know the ins and outs of the discipline. It's not enough to know just the principles of yoga, so having the best education and training is a must.
But the problem is, there are quite a lot of yoga teacher training centers in the world that it can sometimes be difficult to choose which one is the best for you. So to help you make the right decision, here are some tips and guidelines to heed.
1. Accreditation
There are several accreditation bodies that certify yoga teaching schools, and one of them is Yoga Alliance. In choosing a school, look for proof of accreditation. You want a yoga teacher training center that complies with the highest standards set by these accreditation-giving bodies.
2. Teachers
There is no doubt that your yoga instructors have an impact in your education. So be selective when it comes to your teachers. Go over their profile and check their credentials. You want an experienced roster of teachers with vast amounts of exposure and knowledge in the field.
3. Location
You want the center and its surroundings to be conducive as possible. Some centers are located at the heart of the city, but you want a school with a better ambience. After all, yoga is about finding your inner peace, so you might want to start with your school. If you can afford it, go to another country to gain appreciation of another culture and its people.
Aside from those mentioned, other things to consider are the following: tuition, how long it takes to finish the course, the distance of the center relative to your house, the schedule, and your other preferences.
If you are in Asia you can try your Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand, at anandayogadetox.com, a certified Yoga Alliance school. With Blooming Lotus Yoga, you will find 2 skilled teachers that have made yoga their life. Ananda Yoga and Detox Center offers premier yoga and detox services at affordable prices. Our detox program is considered the best in Koh Phangan, our yoga retreats and workshops provide relaxing holidays while deepening your practice and our all-inclusive Yoga Teacher Training programs have produced incredible teachers all over the world.

Becoming a Yoga instructor can be a very rewarding career especially if you understand how the Yoga industry works. One interesting thing is that there are many programs that you can choose to train in all over the world. In the US alone there are over 1000 schools to choose from. The variety of programs makes it a bit confusing especially when you are choosing the Yoga programs that you can train in. These simple steps can enable you choose the right Yoga teacher certification programs.
When you search for a Yoga school to take your Yoga teacher training program with, you will want to make sure they are registered with the Yoga Alliance. This is a non-profit group that sets standards for the Yoga industry and helps keep the integrity of the teacher training courses
The next step is to decide on where to do your studies. Choose a Yoga instructor's schools that you can attend more affordable. Those schools that are within your city are better since you will save on cost.
Look at the programs that each school offers and make a decision concerning the one that has the exact programs that you would like to enroll in. There are many schools that can offer you the chance to learn specific Yoga styles Like Bikram, Iyengar or any other type. There are also some schools that make it possible to study for general certifications hence offering you the chance to practice widely. Consider the cost of each school and also their payments schedule and choose the right one that will meet your requirements.
Ask where the Yoga instructors who will be teaching the course trained as this are very important. It will also help knowing if they are certified or not. This will enable you have a clear picture of what is to be offered. If you are still not sure about what a certain school offers, you can give it a try by attending one of their sessions before committing yourself fully.
Teaching Yoga can be very exciting. Taking your Yoga teacher training will push and challenge you in many ways. Practicing Yoga is one thing. Teaching it and leading a group of people watching you is another because you will need to be prepared to be in front of a lot of people. So if you are shy or have any issues speaking in front of large groups, then this will be an opportunity for you to overcome this challenge
As the director of Anandayogadetox.com, Valerie Jeremijenko has been helping many students along their path of becoming a yoga teacher and taking their yoga teacher training. She has been teaching since 1991, training yoga teachers since 2007 and was the founder, owner and director of the highly acclaimed Yama Yoga Studios in Qatar for 12 years. She now brings her high-quality programs to Ananda Yoga and Detox Center while continuing to offer on-line classes and summer retreats at Yama Yoga Bulgaria. Toxins accumulate in our bodies over time. Even though the body has the innate ability to eliminate waste and toxic substances naturally, this process can be facilitated through a detox program. Apart from addressing physical wellness, it is also beneficial to address mental and emotional well-being. The different facets of our body (mind, body, energy, spirit) is interconnected. Thus, the well-being of one has a spill-over effect onto the others.
As part of the detox program offered at Ananda, morning meditation/pranayama and afternoon yin/restorative yoga classes are offered complementary. These classes can provide you the designated structure and space to be with yourself. If you are looking to cultivate your yoga and meditation practice, this is a great way to begin or go deeper!
What are the benefits of meditation and yoga during a detox?
Meditation During Detox
The morning meditation or pranayama sessions are intended to give you the space and time to explore and/or cultivate a mindful practice. Mental and emotional well-being has often been overlooked in the past. Taking care of your mind and emotions can give your detox experience an added boost.
Our meditation and pranayama sessions are guided by experienced teachers. The classes are open to practitioners of all levels, whether you are just starting out on your practice or a seasoned meditator.
What Is Meditation?
Meditation, by dictionary definition, is to contemplate, ponder or reflect on a state, circumstance, thought, feeling etc. Various techniques are used to expand awareness, improve mindfulness and cultivate a sense of neutral acceptance for present circumstances as they are. If you struggle to detach from excessive mental activity, unpleasant thoughts or have difficulty relaxing and being in the moment, this practice can help you find peace of mind.
What Is Pranayama?
The word ‘pranayama’ is rooted in the ancient Sanskrit language. It can be broken down into two parts
Prana – life force energy
Ayama – control
Our breath is what keeps us alive. Pranayama is the practice of manipulating the breath to increase vital energy in our body. Various breathing techniques and methods are practiced to improve how we breathe. Pranayama practices can help:
Increase lung capacity. More breath means more vital life force energy in our system. Pranayama is designed to not only expand our lung capacity, it also heightens awareness of our breath and trains us to breathe more consciously.
Breathe correctly. Take a moment to observe your breath right now. As you breathe in, notice where your breath lands in your body. Do you feel your in-breath expanding more into your chest / ribcage / abdomen?
Most of us breathe predominantly into the capacity of the chest, which is only a very small portion of our body’s capacity to contain breath. Practicing pranayama can help you re-train your body to breathe into abdominal cavity, where the most physiological benefits can be experienced.
Breathe less. When the cells in our body are getting enough oxygen as we breathe deeply & slowly, the need to breathe decreases. This is part of the body’s innate physiological process of regulating oxygen and blood pH levels. However, when we breathe in a shallow, rushed, uneasy manner, our bodies become starved of oxygen and vital energy.
Yoga During Detox
As part of the program, we encourage our detoxers to attend any yoga class during their detox program. Yin and Restorative yoga are great styles of yoga that complement a detox program well. The gentle and quiet nature of these practices are not physically demanding (while you are fasting), still allow you to get the movement you need and give you the structured space you may need to go inwards.
Practicing gentle yoga facilitates detoxification, especially poses which stimulate the abdominal region through compression – twists & forward folds and extension – supported gentle backbends. This physical stimulation not only aids peristalsis of the intestines, it also improves circulation towards the gut and organs in the abdominal region. Peristalsis is the natural contraction of the intestinal walls which move ingested matter along the GI tract, facilitating the peristaltic movements aids the gut’s natural elimination processes. Both yoga and meditation have been around for thousands of years. To understand their connection, it helps to understand what each one is individually.
Yoga is a spiritual Hindu practice that incorporates breath, a simple form of meditation and physical incorporation of the body to bring the mind and body together, creating harmony. First introduced to the west in the early 1900's, by mid century, yoga has grown exponentially in popularity and has continued to grow over the last few decades.
Meditation is best described as a training of the mind to reach different levels of consciousness and awareness. These levels of consciousness can include access to parts of the brain that control imagination, creativity, memory and more. Through meditation, these characteristics can be explored and possibly enhanced through practice.
The health benefits of yoga and meditation seem to go hand in hand, but let's break the two down, anyway.
Health benefits of meditation
Blood pressure- Studies have shown the ability of meditation to lower blood pressure and in some cases, reverse the effects of heart disease.
Pain management- Meditation has been used to treat chronic and substance abuse withdrawal pains effectively. The results have been impressive; patients report feeling less discomfort when meditation has been introduced.
Stress and anxiety- If anyone has ever gotten overwhelmed with stress, took a moment, stopped and took a deep breath to recollect has witnessed the ability of meditation to reduce stress. Meditations number one benefit is the ability to relax, fighting off stress and anxiety.
Sleep- Meditation continues to be explored and implemented for its effectiveness for insomnia. Many times insomnia is caused by our inability to slow the mind down, whereas meditations greatest gift is the ability to do so.
Health benefits of yoga
Not only can yoga help with high blood pressure, pain management, stress, anxiety and sleep, but can also benefit the body more directly:
Core strength- Yoga can develop and nurture a strong core strength through its poses and stamina required to maintain those poses.
Posture- The simple act of lifting your chin when walking can have profound effects on posture. The poses present in yoga are embedded with improvements for posture, while developing the core strength can help maintain good posture out of the classroom.
Balance- The very nature of yoga and its form of exercise helps develop and maintain physical balance, but also fosters an emotional balance for the mind.
The benefits of meditation almost seem inherent to that of yoga, considering meditation is an integral part of the yoga practice. Some benefits are exclusive to yoga because of the physical qualities involved, but both are highly effective in bettering our health.
These are just a few health benefits of yoga and meditation and the list could go on, highlighting many more. My practice in meditation has introduced me to many of these additional possibilities [https://anandayogadetox.com/]teaching me there may be no limit. As more is discovered about yoga and meditation, the more we should be convinced of its usefulness.Know more about Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand

1. 28 nights of accommodation on a tropical island,
2. 3 vegetarian yogi buffet meals per day,
3. 2 Thai massages,
4. daily access to our salt water pool and herbal steam sauna,
5. and a beachfront location that offers the most spectacular sunsets.
All of the details of this program can be found here: https://anandayogadetox.com/ananda-pure-yoga.html. We look forward to hosting you soon, and please feel free to inquire about any questions you might have.

We can’t stress enough the importance of offering our bodies a recess from our daily overconsumption of food and beverages. Throughout the year our bodies accumulate toxins, both physical and emotional. We eat the wrong foods, drink the wrong drinks. We over occupy our minds with negative thoughts and stress and fear. On top of that many of us don’t get enough sleep and resist even basic exercise. Daily life begins to drain us and finally, we reach a point where everything is “too much” to handle. Under such circumstances, our health can become compromised.
At Ananda Yoga and Detox Center we have encountered many guests who have reached this point. They struggle with the issues of not being able to control their weight, various body and skin ailments, and their stress levels. For us, the answer for everyone is the same–give your body and mind a proper rest.
Scientific research has analysed and demonstrated the importance of fasting on our overall health. It shows how fasting can help our bodies can become more effective and our mental state less problematic. Fasting can also improve our blood circulation making the distribution of blood, rich with oxygen and nutrients, to our organs more efficient. Improved circulation can also promote the exchange of toxins and gases which can then be eliminated from our liver, kidneys, lungs, intestines and skin.
But fasting in itself is not enough. Our bodies need a daily minimum of gentle movement and proper breathing. Therein lies the heart of our approach in our detox fasting programs on Koh Phangan Thailand – our detox yoga approach.
Why Detox Yoga?
The benefits of yoga for our body and mind are well known. When you combine our special detox yoga sequence with your fasting, the benefits multiply three-fold. Our detox yoga sequences are based on promoting your detox experience at Ananda Yoga and Detox Center. But the sequence can also serve as a gentle stand-alone sequence so feel free to try this at home. All of our detox yoga sequences include inversions, twists, forward bends, and balances. They also focus on breathing, meditation, self-massage techniques, and of course, relaxation. All of these yoga poses and techniques are known for their detoxifying and calming effect.
Twisted yoga poses, for example, are a detox yoga go-to. The basic principle is that the compression of a body area through twisting allows for a fresh supply of oxygenated blood to move into that area upon release. You can feel this if you are focusing your concentration and breathing quietly. Inversions, of course, stimulate circulation, a basic health necessity, and balance poses are the first step towards concentration from which grows our meditation. The forward bends that we include in this detox yoga sequence can provide a massage of digestive system but they also promote withdrawal from the external world and for that alone are hugely beneficial.
The poses are listed below with brief instructions and elaborations. Pop over to see my video class on YouTube which I will be releasing soon. (I will update with a link when I do.)
Our Detox Yoga Flow:
1. Begin in a kneeing position in the center of your mat. Start your practice with 5 soft nasal breaths.
2. Press back into Downward Dog. Feel free to keep your knees as bent as necessary. Hold for 5 breaths. Downward Dog is a basic inversion pose and can help to stimulate the circulation system.
3. Drop down onto your hands and knees and expel the breath forcefully through the mouth. Push back into Downward Dog through child. Repeat this action three times. This is a lion’s breath exercise which is also known as Simhasana Pranayama. It stimulates the throat chakra which is associated with the thyroid gland and our metabolism.
4. Come back to your knees for 5 soft nasal breaths again. Press back into Downward Dog and hold for 5 breaths.
5. Extend one leg to the ceiling for a one-legged extended Downward Dog. This pose helps us to focus and accentuates the effects of Downward Dog on our circulation system. Repeat on the other side.
6. Walk your feet up to behind your hands. Relax into a forward bend here. Keep it soft and continue to feel the reversal of your circulation system and the lengthening of the spine and hamstrings.
7. Walk your feet back to Downward Dog then drop into child to allow the circulation system to normalise.
8. From child walk your hands to one side and stretch through the side body. Hold for 5 breaths and then repeat on the other side.
9. Push back into Downward Dog and then step your right foot forward into a yoga lunge position. Hold for 5 breaths and then repeat on the other side. This is the heating part of the practice. You can accentuate the heating action by adding vinyasas between poses or by adding additional standing positions.
10. From Downward Dog step your right foot forward again. Drop your back knee, square the hips then twist over the front knee. Hold for 5 breaths then try to move deeper into the pose and hold for another 5 breaths. Repeat on the other side. Finish this small sequence by pushing back into Downward Dog.
11. From Downward Dog walk your feet up towards your hands and come to standing. Balance in tree pose. To make this pose more challenging you can balance in half lotus tree or use the more familiar tree pose. Hold for 5 breaths on each side then repeat holding for 10 breaths on each side.
12. Vinyasa to the floor.
13. Take a variation of seated forward bend. Breathe. As above the point of this pose is not to go deep into a stretch though that can feel good but to withdraw the senses from the outside world.
Optional vinyasa to keep building heat.
14. From seated forward bend take Janu Sirasana or Half lotus forward bend.
Optional Vinyasa
15. At this point in the class, we want to start working on seated twists. There are many options for this moving from simple twists to more complicated ones. I recommend that you choose a comfortable seated twist and then hold it for an extended period breathing softly.
Optional Vinyasa
16. Come to a lying down position and draw one knee into your chest using this to compress the abdominal region. Repeat on the other side. Repeat pulling both knees in.
Optional Vinyasa
17. Having completed the main part of the class we recommend the following to prepare for relaxation. Legs up the wall. Hold for 3 minutes
18. Reclined twist. Hold for 3 mins on each side
Stomach massage. (Highly Optional) This can be done lying on your back and just using your hands to massage the belly. To intensify the experience you can roll over and lie on top of a small ball and roll back and forth.
19. Relaxation
We hope these suggestions for detox yoga are helpful to you. Please feel free to comment below or send us questions and as above a YouTube video of our Detox yoga flow will be posted shortly.
