We all know about what you did on June 3rd, 2032. You definitely deserve this.
“If I had time travel I’d kill Hitler” “If I had time travel I’d stop my favourite politician getting assassinated” you’re all thinking way too small. If I had time travel I’d stop Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from dying on the moon due to Soviet sabotage, kicking off the Great Nuclear War and devastating half of the planet.

Holy fuck. Tumblr showed me an ad for something I might like. I didn't know internet ads could be for stuff you actually want. When did that become a thing the internet could do?
It was an ad for cool hats.

Dwarves make for very efficient oxbirds.
Dragons and dwarves sharing a symbiotic relationship. Dragons needing large tunnels and treasures, and dwarves already enjoying digging for treasures coming to a mutually beneficial arrangement. The dragons keep the dwarves safe and protected from invaders and in return the dwarves help keep their combined hoardes preserved. Imagine dwarves being the only ones able to ride dragons. They know how to polish swords and dragon scales so beautifully they look like treasures themselves. Dragons lending shed scales to give dwarves fireproof armor. Dwarves maintaining dragon egg chambers and bonding with a dragon from hatching, mutually respecting one another from the start. Dragons calling their personal dwarf rider by a gem name in reference to them being part of their treasure as a form of endearment and respect.

Good for who? Like, I don't know that it's ever been great for everyone, and I'm pretty sure that basically every US president has done at least a few war crimes, but it might have been less aggressively shit for quite so many people. And Mad Max: Fury Road came out around then, so we had that going for us, which was nice.
Were things good in the united states prior to 2016 or was I just <11 years old. I mean the 2000s were bad. But was there like a second in the early-mid 2010s where it was kind of okay

Well yeah, you gotta spread the awkwardness around so that everyone gets a 1/10,000th share, which pretty much rounds down to 0.
"hmm thats a bit of a weirdly personal thing to suddenly drop in a friends dms. i should post it on my 10k follower block instead"

Calling the Bible plagiarism, while inaccurate, might be the funniest take I've heard in a while. Like the author is going to fail 9th grade English class for copying an essay he found on Google.
I saw someone calling the Bible "bad plagiarism" because the stories in the early parts of Genesis have things in common with other mythological stories.
That... that's not plagiarism, that's literally just how myths work?? These stories are passed on and get changed based on what feels true to people.
You don't have to like the politics of the writer or writers of Genesis, but that doesn't make the stories in it "plagiarism." That's not how this works.

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

Rewatching Truman Show for the first time in a long time, and the detail that’s stuck with me this time is the set design.
The characters drive modern cars and hock modern products, but it’s all presented with a veneer of 1950s wholesome applecheeked Americana. Truman’s life is presented as an escape for the audience from the drudgery of the modern day, and the aesthetic they’ve chosen for this is the post-war economic boom. This is the simple time, the movie says. This is the good time. Doesn’t the modern day suck? Let’s go back and see our friends from the days when life was good.
And it’s a lie. Truman’s life is a lie, and the image of white picket fenced suburbia they’ve presented is a lie. It’s an elaborate construction to recreate a false memory that’s comfortable for advertisers. The movie is a satire, but it’s also a very blatant statement against the nostalgia for a golden age which never existed. It’s a lie. It doesn’t exist.
I don’t know. I’m spitballing. I’m biased because I despise mid-20th century Americana and I naturally treat it with hostility, but it’s very gratifying to see a movie kind of agree with me.
