An Open Letter to President Obama #jasonrezaian
Dear President Obama,
Thank you For hearing my voice. I grew up with Jason Rezaian and our families were neighbors for almost 20 years. We attended the same elementary and junior high school together, Marin Country Day School for 8 years. His family, prior to his capture in Tehran had recently gone through two deaths, the sudden death of his nephew, Ali Rezaian’s son to influenza and the death to his father a few months prior. Mary, Jason’s mother was devastated.
Fast forward a couple of years, now one of her two remaining son’s has been imprisoned for over 500 days and has been falsely convicted of espionage in Tehran and awaits sentencing. Imagine her desperation in trying to save her remaining family; in trying to free her youngest son from Evan prison. Jason is as American as apple pie, we grew up playing baseball as he was fiercely loyal to his A’s and I my Giants. At a young age he always spoke of bridging Persian and Amercan culture, he loves both. Hence his pursuit of journalism.
At this point, I feel all avenues have been exhausted, you are her only hope for his release, Jason Rezaian and his family needs more from his government. Have we done everything we can do? Will you not consider a prisoner exchange? Iran is a country, not a terrorist organization and you did just negotiate a nuclear treaty. Jason and Mary and reporters in general need your help, I’m afraid that if Jason is not released by the end of your term, the next regime may not be willing to explore the issue at all and Jason would be forgotten.
Please don’t forget about my friend, please don’t let him die in a Tehranian prison. Please do more.
Thank you in advance,
Sincerely,
Isaac Julian Laprade
