HE had half a mine to tell the other ‘ no ‘ – urge him forward and away to their apartment where Eiji would have some semblance of safety or shelter. But Ash knew his stubborn soul – he knew behind that pleading ‘ please ‘ was a boy who would not take now. He sighed, using one arm to pull the other closer to him Ash would much rather have Eiji walk by him – trouble following them – rather turning back and running towards danger itself. 

“Stay close, okay? And run if I tell you to run.” 

       ✦       thin form easily moves when pulled,      remaining   firm   by   the   blond’s   side.   he   felt   stronger   by   the   american’s   side,   like   he   could   do   something.   something   told   the   brunette   he   was   but   a   mere   disturbance,   a   tool   to   be   used   against   the   one   he   felt   so   strongly   for   &   yet   he   finds   himself   unable   to   pull   himself   away.        ❛   --   got   it.   ❜

     It was a silly nickname, and yet it was so Eiji. Nobody would call him something like that, though nobody would call him a nickname to begin with. Eiji was the only one familiar enough, the only one who saw Ash in a different light. In the same way, Ash sees him in his own special lighting. He wouldn’t touch anyone else like this, after all, wouldn’t let down his guard even slightly for another.

     That smile… that smile of Eiji’s could rival the sun. It could stop wars, stop killers, and make any individual weak in the knees. It was happiness incarnate, and Ash felt his heart swoop at just the sight of it. There isn’t a soul on earth who makes him feel the way Eiji makes him feel. “Yeah sure. Call me big cat, kitten.”

       ✦       embarrassment amplifies as the two nicknames meet,      spoken   in   the   same   sentence.   kitten   &   big   cat.   there   was   a   clear   difference   between   the   two   names.   one   cute   &   the   other...   goofy.   asian   feels   the   need   to   find   a   better   nickname,   one   more   deserving   of   the   one   &   only   lynx   &   yet   mind   seems   to   flat   line,   only   small   chuckle   leaking   through.

❛   o   --   okay,   big   cat   !   ❜        he   stutters,   blush   coating   tanned   features.   a   clear   of   the   throat,   an   attempt   to   calm   thoughts   into   motion.        ❛   are   you   warm   enough   ?   it’s   a   bit   cold   out   today.   ❜

     Eiji does look pretty embarrassed, but in a way that Ash doesn’t like. He hadn’t meant to upset him with that comment, but clearly his joke didn’t hit the right way. He’ll try changing the mood, especially because he does not like the look on Eiji’s face when he can’t see those chocolate eyes on him like before.

     Touch is something Ash is sensitive with, but where Eiji is wrong about that is where he thinks it still applies to himself. Ash wouldn’t be lying like this with Eiji if that were the case, wouldn’t be letting fingers slide under his shirt for the sole purpose of skin-to-skin contact. It’s meant to be comforting…. loving, even. Ash still appreciates the care Eiji puts into being cautious, though. He can’t remember the last time someone was considerate over something like that.

     “Stop that,” Ash assures in a soft, but reprimanding tone. “It’s actually kinda cute that you thought of that; no one else would’ve. You’re cute.”

       ✦       why was he so emberrassed ?        was   it   truly   about   his   silly   nickname   he’d   thought   up   ?   was   it   that   he   was   had   spoken   without   thought   once   again   or   --   had   it   been   that   he   was   still   a   bit   in   awe   that   the   lynx   had   favoured   him   enough   to   get   so   close   ?   to   feel   fingers   upon   his   stomach,   just   laxing   there...   it   was   nice.   

a   smile   curls   lips,   gaze   lingering   back   up   to   those   emerald   eyes.   o,   how   they   glimmer   &   shine   in   spite   of   what   they’ve   witnessed.   blush   comes   to   cheeks   at   their   words;   you’re   cute.   brows   tilt   up,   big   smile   coming   to   lips.        “   ash...   “        he   mumbles,   nose   crinkling   very   slightly   as   smile   defies   natural   biology   to   grow   even   farther   --   seemingly   distorting   face.        “   so   can   i   call   you   big   cat   ?   “
