"Opinion is really the lowest form of human knowledge. It requires no accountability, no understanding. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another’s world. It requires profound purpose larger than the self kind of understanding."

Class Presentation
Part of the module was to get into teams with other colleagues and make a presentation about the subject we chose to present in front of the class.
Because our subjects were so different we made our presentation about the only thing they have in common: consumerism.
My research is based on what makes Fight Club one the most iconic movies despite it’s early reception, focusing on how differently it was received by different generations, it’s influences on society and the impossibility of defining it with one genre.
But due to the circumstances I had to adapt my presentation and focus not on the main subject but how Fight Club illustrates a society dominated my consumerism. Because time was so short I did not focus on the research that much and I had to improvise, making me look a little bit unprepared.
I find it very hard to talk in front of a large group, especially with people that I’m not familiar with. This is why I find it so hard to make eye contact and interact with the public even though I know how important it is during a presentation. However next time I’m going to try to be more confident.
I really appreciated the work my colleagues did, it showed how much they enjoy the subject they are studying. They showed great professionalism and dedication for the subject.

Time Management
University is a big change in every young adult’s life. Moving out from home, learning how to live by yourself, adapting to a new life style, meeting lots of new people can be a real challenge. Having good time management can help you to overcome this challenge.
You need to learn how to divide your time between study and work and also have some time for recreation.
I am not naturally talented at time organization. I don’t know how to organize my priorities and that has left me with an inability to accomplish multiple tasks. Becoming a student taught me how important being organized is and how to prioritise what’s important.
I have classes two days a week and due to a very long journey to university I’ve found it very hard to add more activities in those two days, not even the ones regarding my course. So I prefer in those days to take some time for myself and before bed time do a little bit of reading about what we’ve done that day. Then during weekends I work 10 hours shifts so it’s impossible to find time for something else. With my final three days I like to divide my time between two important priorities, my personal life and my student life. One of the days is just for house duties and a bit of relaxation and then the next two are for studying or projects.
It’s hard to get used to a whole new life style, especially when you are a student and you want to be part of different activities not just work and study. Being organised can help you get through it more easily and make studying much more enjoyable.

Afternoon at the BFI
Just another typical autumn day in England, not to mention pretty wet, on the Wednesday afternoon that we visited the BFI as part of our foundation year course. This was a very good opportunity to get know each other and get to share our impressions about university life and ideas about the subject we are studying.
In the first part of the visit we attended a conference where we learned lots of useful things about the BFI and all the facilities they can provide to us as freshmen in the film industry. I found the most interesting thing to be the library where they store documents, articles and books about film dating back to the 1930s.
For the second part we watched the movie ‘Run, Lola, Run’ by Tom Tywer that is now 20 years old. Being a German movie, it is quite a contrast from the usual Hollywood style.
The film is very fast paced, everything moves so fast and you have to keep up otherwise you are going to be left behind. Another thing is the soundtrack, the techno rhythm keeps you involved and gives you continuity with the story.
I’m very impressed with this style of filmmaking because it does not allow you to be distracted. It keeps the audience engaged and considering that children born at the end of the 90’s are not used to this style, it can be a new experience. This film left me with a very good impression and I would happily recommend it to anybody with an interest in thrillers.

Motivation for studying at a London University
In the last year of high school most young people start to wonder where they should continue their studies. The decision is usually based on the cost of tuition fees but the reward from the course and their personal development are far more important.
Recently Great Britain has been the first choice for most Romanian high school graduates owing to the opportunity to build a career in their chosen field after they graduate, partly thanks to the life experience gained from studying abroad.
Universities in London have strong connections with research institutions and some of the world’s biggest companies. In this way all the information provided by their courses is adapted to the labour market’s requirements and provides their students everything they need to be successful in their future. Also, the British government has made great investments in the development of facilities and staff to provide the highest quality education.
Studying abroad helps students to leave their comfort zone and teaches them how to live on their own, adapt to a new lifestyle, and a new way of studying. Attending a university in London gives you access to a huge variety of events, exhibitions and internships. It is considered the center of Europe due to the myriad of exciting cultures and provides access to over 120 libraries and a large variety of cinemas, pubs and live music. The educational system and social life is extremely active in a city that never sleeps.
