079: Admitting I'm scared
Every time I lose my voice to laryngitis, I have a fear that it won't come back.
~Andrea Klunder
What are you scared of?
Having a major health crisis changes the lens on how you perceive things. Long-time fears can resurface with a vengeance and new ones you never considered before can materialize.
I was inspired to do this episode and post by Sarah Buino of the Conversations with a Wounded Healer podcast (which my team edits), who was inspired by the WNYC Studios podcast 10 Things That Scare Me.

078: Self-Care Impostor
“It’s amazing to me how very hard we are on ourselves whenever healing is involved. Whether one has had a hysterectomy, a fibroid removed, given birth, or “just” had a broken bone set, we expect expediency... capitalism demands it... And consumerism has co-opted self-care to mean things like manicures, cupcake breaks, and long weekends.” ~Lisa Widder
I AM A SELF-CARE IMPOSTOR!!!
Before I was a podcaster, I was a yoga teacher, and then a Thai Bodywork practitioner, and then a meditation teacher.
I owned a yoga studio for 5 years,
I led a yoga teacher training.
I lead musical mantra sessions, I blend essential oils, I practice tarot.
In fact MANY episodes of The Creative Impostor are about self-care — whether it’s me spouting off ideas and droplets of wisdom and practices or my guests sharing insights into different ways they take care of their creative selves and/or their clients…
I confess I feel like I was wrong about self-care.
I had never REALLY put it to the test.

077: Get your story out there, Nilsa Reyna, actor, writer, director shares about Moyamoya
“Be patient with yourself. It may take longer than you think.” ~Nilsa Reyna
A stroke in your mid-30s. A maze of medical appointments with no answers. 6 years of searching for a diagnosis. Brain surgery. Anxiety. And recovery.
Actor, writer, director Nilsa Reyna is creating performances centered around her own health journey with the hope that it helps other people connect with their own stories.
May 6th is World Moyamoya Day. Moyamoya is the name of the diagnosis Nilsa finally received.
Moyamoya is one of the rarest forms of occlusive cerebrovascular disorders encountered in neurosurgery. The term means a "puff of smoke" coined by a Japanese team who first described the disease because it describes how the blood vessels look on an angiogram.

CI076: Shift your paradigm, Aya-Nikole Cook, Haji Healing Salon
“I just decided when I got the diagnosis that there must be some things that I don’t know about me so what can I do that will help me engage in a deeper self-study?” ~Aya-Nikole Cook
What happens when you are an artist following your passion, building a name for yourself in your field, and doing work you love... and then suddenly a major health crisis comes out of the blue?
That's what happened to Aya-Nikole Cook.
Aya-Nikole Cook is the founder and curator at Haji Healing Salon in Chicago. Yoga, acupuncture, Reiki, bodywork, herbal remedies... located in the south side of Chicago Chatham neighborhood, Haji is a sanctuary where "thriving is our resistance."
I KNEW I needed to talk with Aya when I heard the origin story of Haji while editing a business interview for a client's podcast. She had been working in the fashion industry until being diagnosed with fibroid tumors and undergoing surgery and subsequent recovery. That was the turning point when she decided to, not only engage in deeper self-study, but shift her creative talents toward facilitating healing space for her community.
Listen to the episode to get the full story, and whether you yourself have gone through or are going through recovery of your own, hear some words of wisdom for engaging in your own paradigm shift of taking care of YOU.

073: Where Have I Been? Updates & Invitations
"I just sort of went into this existential crisis of -- What is The Creative Impostor? Why do I need this show?" ~Andrea Klunder
It has been a while since I have released an episode here for you. My last episode was this past summer with the fabulous Matt Marr. It was a really good one.
And now... I have to tell you something really strange has happened or is happening, which is that I did not plan to take a hiatus with this show.
In fact over on my other podcast, Podcast Envy, all about how to craft a show that matters, I have recently advised podcasters that if they are going to take a hiatus from their show, they should tell their listeners. They should announce it. They should set some expectations so that you're not just leaving your listeners hanging and I did NOT do that myself.
So where HAVE I been and why the hiatus and what can you do if you miss me?
Listen to the episode or read on at http://www.thecreativeimpostor.com/073

072: Recommit to being vulnerable as an artist, Matt Marr, podcaster, actor, therapist, self-proclaimed chatterbox
I have been thinking about today’s guest for 2 years — ever since my first Podcast Movement conference in Chicago when he hosted the PMx talks before the OFFICIAL start of the conference — hilarious, welcoming, the best of MCs!
In this episode, you'll get a healthy dose of "GayDD", shirtless Archie from Riverdale, and #truthtalk about identity, creativity, and vulnerability with Matt Marr.
Matt Marr is an actor, narrative therapist, show host, self-proclaimed chatterbox and host of The Dear Mattie Show. Personally, I love that he always calls me (and everyone else, but I like to think it’s just me) “sugar.”
And if you can’t get enough of Matt, head over to The Dear Mattie Show because he has an interview with ME is waiting for you!

070: Do one thing that's completely different, Monica Rivera, You Wanna Do What?!
Episode 070. "But everyone keeps saying just find your passion -- find that one thing and follow your bliss and I thought well... I have a bunch of passions, so which passion are we talking about? And that's why I kept feeling really stuck in that decision of needing to pick one thing." ~Monica Rivera
I'm obsessed with podcasts and I always want MORE so there's this thing I do once a week in the She Podcasts Facebook Group on Wednesdays. I scroll through a VERY long thread of new podcast episodes by other women podcasters and pick a few I've never heard of to check out.
Most of the time, I decide they're not for me but every once in a while, a show really stands out and I fall in love.
That's what happened with Monica's podcast: You Wanna Do What?!
When I first heard it, I thought, "I want to to be friends with this woman."
Her show feels so motivating without feeling coachy or preachy or overwhelming. And I'm so happy to be getting to know her and introduce her to you!
2 stories that stand out in this interview:
1) How Monica got into podcasting
2) How she was inspired by her grandmother not to wait to try new things
Listen to Monica's podcast You Wanna Do What?! I love episode 045: Are You Really Living?
"I am comparing myself to myself... what I think I should be doing versus what I am doing, which I think is the worst kind because you're with yourself all the time. So you're constantly almost at war if you let yourself be." ~Monica Rivera

"And some days honestly, I just have to sit in that space and let me feel it and just kind of go through it of kind of beating myself up a little bit and then the next day hoping that it gets better, but I never try to force myself out of something that I'm feeling." ~Monica Rivera

069: Flip the script, Robyn Conley Downs, Feel Good Effect, mindset, podcasting, what it really means to be healthy
Episode 069. "I had to be able to sit there in that uncomfortable place of this is not as good as I want it to be — and that’s okay."~Robyn Conley Downs
I discovered Robyn when she needed a podcast editor for her new show the Feel Good Effect. That was a year ago and since then, I have listened in detail to every single one of her episodes and she continues to amaze me with her big heart, inquisitive mind, business savvy, and seemingly superhuman ability to "do it all."
As we discuss in this episode, there's nothing superhuman about it and, in reality, there's a give and take to everything. In fact, in terms of mindset, one of Robyn's favorite sayings is "gentle is the new perfect."
I love it and you're going to love Robyn.

Episode 068. “They haven’t discovered I’m a fake yet — THIS is the moment they’re going to figure out they’re wasting their time and money working with me.” ~Andrea Klunder
Sometimes you need to take a break — play, sleep and trust your instincts even when it feels like you SHOULD be working…

Susan Chu is a holistic practitioner who works with people to move past fear, take better care of themselves, and find their passion for a more authentically aligned life. She uses crystals, feng shui and mindfulness for magical results in a totally grounded way.
I LOVE how she calls the impostor voice as your "inner saboteur!"

065: A remedy for not enough, self-gratitude
Episode 065. “She asked me how could I express gratitude. My first thought was “to whom?” But she meant… gratitude to mySELF.” ~Andrea Klunder
Pause, take a deep breath, lift your head, and look around...
I just released an episode in my new-ish podcast about the craft of podcasting, Podcast Envy, about downloads, numbers, stats, etc and you probably know already how I feel about using those metrics as a measure for success from my Creative Impostor episode 57: What do numbers have to do with success?
And I propose a question that applies to areas of life and work beyond podcasting, which is — if these numerical metrics were to disappear…
If you could not easily see how many followers you had on Facebook or Instagram, how many people liked your picture, or retweeted your post. If you had no idea how many people were subscribed to your email newsletter or opened it or unsubscribed. If you did not have a head count for the audience of your talk or your show… If you did not see an actual number…
… how would YOU measure success? How would you value your OWN work?
Sometimes I feel like my own numbers are too small. Like I’m working and working and working and no one notices or cares. Like I’ll never reach that critical mass of followers where suddenly the conversion statistics come out to actual sales of services and I can actually earn a sustainable comfortable income off of the content I create and the work that I do.
And sometimes I feel like a fraud, teaching podcasting classes, encouraging hundreds of other people to create a podcast and being positioned as the “expert” or making recommendations on gear, equipment and software when certainly there are other people out there who know more in that department than I do.
And I keep putting myself out there despite those feelings.
And THEN what happens? Listen and find out...

063: Go on a Joyride, Aimee DuFresne, writer, traveler, joy catalyst
"It’s about being happy, it’s about living your life- not anyone else's life. But it's the life that YOU want to live, the life that makes you happy, that makes you share with the world what it is that you want to share. ~Aimee DuFresne, Episode 063
Do you ever find yourself dangling the proverbial carrot in front of yourself? "I'll be happy when I..." or "If only I could just..." or "I'll take a break once I..."
Aimee DuFresne is no stranger to this trap, but through decluttering (inside and out), focusing on joy and doubling down on self-care and travel, she's found a way to spring that trap and live an unconventional life.
In this episode, we talk about:
Aimee’s big “Joy Ride” and what it's all about
Her adventures on her book tour that brought her to the west coast, and her time house sitting
What self-care really means (not just the buzz-word version) and some of Aimee's favorite practices
How Aimee balances EVERYTHING out in her life
The day that her life completely changed
How the impostor voice shows up for Aimee especially around entrepreneurship and being an author
Aimee’s view on success
Aimee's top life tip: Trust the unfolding.
“This is really exciting, but does it give me freedom?” ~Aimee DuFresne
