"In no universe could you be anyone's villain," is what Jean reassures Jeremy in TSC. From Jean's perspective and from the perspective of the audience, that's completely obvious because Jeremy, even in his own POV, has never been anything but considerate, thoughtful and self-deprecating. Which is why it's so interesting that the narrative in TGR sets Jeremy up in Riko's place.
The narrative draws a lot of parallels between Jeremy and Riko. We find out that Jeremy is yet another neglected son of an absentee father, younger brother to a "preferred son," who clings onto the family name of the father who abandoned him as the last shred of proof of their connection. We find out that Jeremy's family can operate the same levers of power that the Moriyamas can, with their police connections, their wealth and their political influence. Because of that upbringing, Jeremy, like Riko, shows a viciousness that's rooted in hurting people from a position of power. Both Jeremy and Riko are PR-savvy, well-regarded captains of top exy teams whose teams are deeply loyal to them. Both of them have been handed one Jean Moreau on a leash to handle as they please. Both of them have been responsible for ruining lives, and both got away with it to sit down at a banquet and throw that fact in their enemies' faces.
In the banquet scene in TGR, it's Connors and Lander who come looking for trouble, but it's Jeremy who has the actual power to make plausible threats. All Connors and Lander really do is wave around some pixy sticks and try to threaten Jeremy with bad memories. Jeremy is the one who can boast about destroying someone's life with his family's power, the same way that Riko boasted about having Seth killed. Like Riko, Jeremy is the one at the banquet who poses the real threat. Jeremy's POV in that chapter frames Jeremy as the villainous captain of a well-regarded team because in Jeremy's view of himself, he IS the villain of his story.
Jean (and the audience) might be able to easily accept that the existence of Jeremy's flaws are further proof of his determined kindness rather than proof of his villainy, but Jeremy himself doesn't. That's why Jeremy tries so hard to be thoughtful in everything he does, why he feels the need to overcompensate with sanitized language, why he has to bend to the will of his family at his own expense. Jeremy's own conviction that his place in the story is that of the villain is really what drives him to make a lot of the choices he makes.

“Jean moved without thinking, pressing a close-mouthed kiss to her temple the way she did whenever she thought he was unraveling.”

devastating parallel to Andrew putting his hand on the back of Neil’s neck to calm Neil down and bring him to the present.
this is the only physical touch that triggers Jeremy’s fight/flight/freeze in a way he cannot deny. not Faser strangling him but his brother putting a hand on the back of his neck.
