Structure - evaluation

For this brief we were tasked to find a structure that I could plan and photograph a building to show off its features, i had to plan with good light and scout where and when I would capture the images.

for the prefix I decided to photo graph the Emirates arena in Glasgow across from Celtic park, I wanted to focus on the lighting and the modern metal and glass look that the building has, I also wanted to focus on the overhang roof that the arena building has. 

I took the images at around 7pm, because when the sun would get lower in the sky and the exposure would be darker it meant I could do a longer exposure to eliminate people walking by the front of the building.

when I was exposing for the shot I was using the iluminated sign, it was getting the sign correctly exposed but the building was slightly under exposed if I Was too go back and shoot again I would redo the shot and get one exposure with the sign correctly exposed and then another with the building correctly exposed and then possibly the sky correctly exposed and create a composite image with the images.

overall though I do like the outcome of the structure images, I feel like it highlights the key aspects of the building and shows the use go materials and the great features of the building.

I worked in the kitcheen so I could keep all the food products fresh as can be , and by working on the shopping block I knew where the frame would be and what was in and out the frame as a specific point in Time, I used a wireless transmitter and an off camera flash to light the images, with the homemade soft box on the front of it to soften the light.

all the images in the contact sheets will be used in the stop motion video and were all shot under the same lighting so that editing would be the same throughout so I just batch edited hem together in Lightroom.

Illusion - pre production

Surrealism is was an art movement created by French writer, André Breton back in the 1920, he was interested in stuff like fantasies, dreams and things we could only really dream of, surrealism was about creating something dream like that someone would not normally see in real life.

Salvador Dali was the big name in the 1920s with his surrealism artwork. today surrealism influences out daily lives from weird adverts to video games and much more.

Salvador Dali called the persistence of memory a 'dream photograph' with the melted flimsy versions of typical hard and rigid objects, portrays a fine line between the dream state and the real state.

illusion - selection tool

selection tool is very handy to use when the subject is needing to be cut out or separated from another image.

Photoshop is very good at detecting what you are waning to select, by using the quick selection tool, photoshop uses its proximity selection and helps select what the user would like with one click.

the are can be selected with using the content aware select tool on the drop down menu at the top also to make the same outcome.

layer masks are really helpful when creating composite images, they help blend images into each other, they can be painted on and off with the brush tool and is widely used while editing on photoshop.

structure - pre production

Traditionally, view cameras have been used for architectural photography as they allow for the lens to be tilted or shifted relative to the film plane. This allows for control of perspective, as well as a variety of creative possibilities.

view cameras can tilt and correct the perspectives as it goes onto the film or whatever media its getting printed on. this does the same thing that modern tilt shift lenses in distorting the angles of the lens elements
