so my long and convoluted maritime dream the other night inspired me to start reading 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea yesterday. i'm already halfway through and can i just say: these guys are four of THE most autistic men i have ever read about. yes all four of them. obviously the likes of nemo and conseil are gimmes but ned land is really out here like "my special interest is whaling and my harpoon is a stim toy" and tbh i am obsessed with this unstoppable powerhouse of weaponized autism. go whaleboy go

i'm manic at 4am so i'd like to say i am still reeling from finishing that goddamn book. i picked it up on a whim expecting nautical nonsense and instead i got a surprisingly gripping narrative about imperialism, environmentalism, violence, compassion, isolation, philosophy, speculative science, and the power of friendship, all punctuated with massive lists of sea creatures and explorers i didn't even know existed. and on top of that the banter was snappy and the punchlines landed. what the fuck? 20,000 reasons to love captain nemo. number 5 will shock you. with electricity of course.
