This is similar to DropBox. DropBox is another "shared files" type option. You can use it at work or whatever and it is much easier than e-mailing files back and forth. DropBox gives you 2 gig of free space. If you invite friends to DropBox your free space increases.

Silver Nano Technology

What is it?

To explain simply, Silver Nano is a technology that some manufacturers are implemented into many of its appliances, which is meant to provide "strong anti-bacterial and deodorising" effects. The reason they call it the Silver Nano is because ionised silver is actually used in the technology, the silver is meant to attract and kill off bad bacteria.

How does it work?

Without trying to put you to sleep, I will attempt to explain how the technology works. When the tiny Silver Nano particles touch or come into contact with bacteria, they kill off, or suppress the life of the bacteria, which in turn inhibits cell growth. Samsung, one manufacturer using the technology claim that it removes 99.9% of all harmful bacteria within 24 hours of it being applied.

To give you an example, Samsung's new front load washing machines are just one of the appliances that are now using the Silver Nano technology. When a wash cycle is started, billions of silver ions are released and dissolve into the water, killing off bad bacteria. At the same time, your clothes are coated in the silver, which they claim will protect them for up to 30 days after the initial wash.

Because the silver kills bacteria, it is said to kill bad odours in their tracks, so Samsung has applied the Silver Nano coating to the inner walls of some of its refrigerators. This helps to keep the fridge smelling nice and clean, while preventing the spread of bacteria and fungi.

So is it worth it?

Is the Silver Nano technology something that we will see applied to all appliances in future, or will it be like a lot of other fads which we see phase out over the next few years? Well, I think the answer to this question comes down to the fact of, do we need it? Do we actually need this enhanced cleaning system in our appliances, or are the current products good enough? To be fair I don't see the harm in the technology, anything that has the smallest chance of keeping us healthy and hygienic has to be a good thing, but it really comes down to whether you are willing to fork out the extra from your back pocket.

Steel Grades  

A - Steel surface largely covered with adhering mill scale but little, if any, rust.

B - Steel surface which has begun to rust and from which the mill scale has begun to flake.

C - Steel surface on which the mill scale has rusted away or from which it can be scraped, but with slight pitting visible under normal vision.

D - Steel surface on which the mill scale has rusted away and on which general pitting is visible under normal vision.

St - Hand and power tool cleaning

St2 - Thorough hand and power tool cleaning. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease, and dirt, and from poorly adhering mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter.

St3 - Very thorough hand and power tool cleaning.  As for St2, - the surface shall be treated much thoroughly to give a metallic sheen arising from the metallic substrate.

Sa - Blast Cleaning

Sa1 - Light blast cleaning. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease and dirt, and from poorly adhering mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter.

Sa2 - Thorough blast cleaning. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease and dirt and from most of the mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter. Any residual contamination shall be firmly adhering.

Sa2.5 - Very thorough blast cleaning. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease and dirt, and from mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter. Any remaining traces of contamination shall show only as slight stains in the form of spots or stripes.

Sa3 - Blast-cleaning to visually clean steel. When viewed without magnification, the surface shall be free from visible oil, grease and dirt, and shall be free from mill scale, rust, paint coatings and foreign matter. It shall have a uniform metallic colour.

Protective Coatings

In the previous chapters we discussed the importance of surface preparation. To prevent and control the surface from further corrosion, the application of protective paint coating need to be carried out before oxygen and water and other corrosive agent reactivate the substrate.

Choice of appropriate types of coatings should be made depending on what the substrate is subjected to the type of environment, characteristic and purpose. For instance, they must,

a) Develop strong adhesion to the substrate.

b) Must inhibit corrosion.

c) Act as a barrier to corrosive substrate.

d) Provide a good base for subsequent coats.

The last line of defence in combating corrosion is the primer. The performance of a coating system is ultimately dependent upon the ability of the primer to withstand the attack of corrosive agent from the surrounding environment and to inhibit the activity of these agents where they may be held on the substrate by the overlaying coatings.

The primer is the most important in any coating system. All other coatings are permeable by water and oxygen. In addition some soluble corrosive substance may pass through the coating film. The primer should neutralize these materials before reaching the steel substrate. Certain compounds are able to chemically inhibit and neutralize corrosive agents.

Repair Laptop Screen Guide

As we all know, accidents happen. Unfortunately, sometimes those accidents happen to our beloved computers or laptops. Most commonly, laptops will have something dropped on them that will break the laptop screen. In other cases, the laptop itself is dropped only to be picked up with a fractured screen. The damage is done and is irreversible. It's time to consider options: to repair laptop screen myself or to use a professional shop. This guide is for the brave computer technicians who are not afraid to work with small parts, fragile plastics and laptop screen panels. Warning! Attempting this laptop repair may void your manufacturer warranty.

A laptop screen is repaired by replacing the current screen with a new one. To do this, you will need to first remove the bezel (plastic frame surrounding the screen). Then you will need to unscrew the metal brackets holding the screen in place. Following that, you will need to unscrew the screen from the brackets. Then you will be able to identify the laptop screen model number and serial information. With that information in hand, you will be able to order a replacement screen online. Once it arrives, unplug the inverter cable from the inverter and unplug the data cable (flex cable) that goes from the laptop to the screen.

With the old screen removed, put the new screen in to place. Do not yet remove any plastic film that is protecting the new screen in case the problem is not solved by the transplant. Plug both wires into the new laptop screen and power up the machine. If the display is properly showing, you are good to go. Remove the plastic film over the screen and begin screwing the laptop screen into the brackets on each side. Once the screen is held in place by the brackets, screw the brackets into the back cover of the laptop. Finally, replace the bezel and any screws that hold it in place.

The laptop screen repair procedure is slightly different from laptop to laptop. Some laptops use a screwless bezel that is held in place by plastic clips. These bezels need to be carefully removed so as to not break off the plastic latches. Once they are broken off, the bezel will not hold in place properly. Older laptops tend to have bezels with many screws (4 to 8) hidden under small round screw covers. You will need to remove the covers and then the screws before peeling off the bezel.

In some rare cases, usually with HP laptops or Sony Vaios, you will not be able to remove the bezel surrounding the laptop screen without first removing the screen entirely from the bottom assembly of the laptop. This requires a more thorough disassembly of the laptop. As with most hardware repairs, I would recommend leaving it to the professionals. While attempting a repair yourself may save a few dollars if the repair is successful, you may run into further difficulties that online guides will not be able to assist you with. Additionally, you will have no warranty on your own repair and may even void your manufacturer's warranty.
