People will most commonly do what is easiest for them to choose.

What I mean by this is easily confused, because I don't mean "what would be the easiest course of action". 

The "for them to choose" part is absolutely critical.

For example, doing something the hard way alone, be it out of pride, social anxiety, or something else, instead of asking for help.

Getting help, if available and willing, would technically be the easiest course of action, but actually doing that is the harder choice.

The hard way is "easier".

If you see someone being stubborn, doing something in a baffling way, or any number of odd, confusing behaviors, consider this:

Would doing it the "right" way be a difficult choice for them? Is there a reason the path of least resistance, the one they'd most naturally choose, is some other way?
