The Nickname... "Poptart"

So it came up in North Haven yesterday that I used to go by Poptart in my life. I was gonna explain there, but then I got yelled at for not being asleep. So now i'm here!

There's really not much of a story here:

When I was in middle school I loved (and honestly still love) Pop Tarts. I would eat one every day at lunch, it was a necessity for me (mostly for not relevant ed reasons).

Another key piece of information that fits in here is how my middle school did recess. We still had recess, however we did it a bit weird. If the weather was not good, we would be in the gym. If the weather was great and the turf was dry, we would be let loose on the football field.

However! If the weather was fine but the ground was wet, we would be let loose on the parking loop in front of the school. We were expected to walk for our recess, making a collective trip around the loop until we were told to go back inside.

So we got that? good. Now, the weather on one day was good but the turf was sopping wet from a rainstorm that morning. Even the asphalt was still we when we went outside. I also had not been able to finish my pop tart from lunch before going out to the parking loop.

I was trying so hard to shove this open packet of Hot Fudge Pop Tart into my teeny tiny women's skinny jeans front pocket and it Was Not Working.

Now another thing you need to know is that there was a very strict "No Food In Recess" rule. Like, it was heavily monitored.

So next thing I know, the Vice Principal was yelling out "Hey Poptart, no food out here!"

'Why would he call that out?' you ask and gee, I would like to know the same thing. Mr. Presioso knew me, I was the teacher's pet. Everyone knew my name and how to pronounce it, I made sure of it. And yet

Then from there my friends just picked up the nickname to tease me and it stuck. It was easier to go by that than re-introduce people to my very Irish name when I went to a STEM+M school for high school with all new students and teachers. So, for 8 years of my life, I went by Poptart for everything.

College was the first time people actually put an effort into learning my name instead of defaulting to Poptart. Though I do still catch myself answering to it even though it's been like 5 years since then.

But yeah, that's the nickname story!

(I did have a nickname for my nickname, however there is only one (1) person in my life that is allowed to call me it so I will not mention it here)

Locke Lore!

Locke dumped gender lore in the server today:

In a convo about finding butches to open jars, they said that they just have to wait a few minutes and wait for their gender to fluctuate!

Then, this: 'obsessed with the idea that once locke experiences a gender for a while they then have to pay for it if they want to continue experiencing it' (thanks Silas, I love this)

This is how I will be viewing their gender from now on. That and their self-description as a paradox.

I Am A Jock??

Another anecdote from CANS! This time surrounding the apparently insane amount of sports equipment I keep in my apartment

So in my apartment I have:

three (3) pairs of skis and all the accessories to go with

a pair of roller blades

a pair of roller skates

a long board

a penny board

volleyball

basketball

stuff for softball

golf clubs

darts

At my moms I also have:

mountain bike

tennis raquet

football

and more i'm probably blanking on

As far as sports i've played:

skiing

snowboarding

roller derby

tennis

cheerleading

track & field: specifically shot put and discus

weight lifting, specifically strong man

god i've done a lot of sports

there's probably more i'm forgetting tbh. i'm an outdoorsy person. i love doing the sportsball

First Stories Tag

What’s the first thing you ever remember writing

What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give yourself for writing it

The first thing I ever wrote?? Oh man, I have to go back to my Power Of The Pen days (POTP was a writing club/comp that i took part in for years in school. You have 30 minutes to write a creative fiction from scratch to submit)

I don't remember a lot of my childhood, but the first story I distinctly remember submitting for POTP was a horror (shocking, I know)

Basic plot: There was a girl and her boyfriend doing what hormonal teens do when the girl's brother comes home and tells them about some sort of purge type thing??? Or maybe it was a disease that turned people into monsters?? I don't really remember. It doesn't end well, lots of death if i remember correctly

I took part in that comp for two years i think with ~5 entries. I won once i think. It was fun! I should still have the entries somewhere, back then I wrote everything by hand so they should still be in the file with my poetry from back then

If I had to give past me a piece of advice on that story, it'd be to not care what others thought. Back then I was seriously struggling with self identity and 'fitting in'. It was before I realized I wasn't a girl, that I wanted to be the guy I was dating not be with him, and before I realized I was autistic and that my morbid curiosities are actually okay, really.

I would sit myself down and tell me to stop holding back, just write the horror story that I was envisioning instead of censoring it in a way that made my brain stop working. Tell myself that I am not wrong or broken for liking stories like that

I would also tell myself than Shorty is a bastard and a cheater but that is neither here nor there, tho it did affect my writing at the time.
