photography evaluation
Aim of my project:
The aim of my freak and unique project is to produce a mesh and a poster with the five objects I brought from home, I made multiple ideas for this poster that included my mesh that was about anti-smoking.
The props I used:
These objects where:
small skull (piggy bank)
small skull (photo frame)
alien (pop figure)
sunglasses
out of the five objects I only used two, this was a way to keep the poster and mesh simple and not too "noisy".
What was my idea:
My idea was to create a mesh out of the two skull objects I had, this was to make the poster simple but I also wanted to make the final out come more complex to make the composition look scarier to stop smokers.
what equipment did I use:
I used a Canon DSLR to take photographs of my five objects, white back drop (A3 paper) so I could cut out the object easier as it had a plain white background, big light source so the image wasn't too dark and I could see the outline of the objects, tripod to balance the DSLR and get a sharp image without blur.
what Photoshop tools did I used:
I used the spot healing brush to get rid of the writing on the skull frame so I had a clean surface to work with. I also used the pen tool to cut around both skull objects but this made the objects look like they were cut out with scissors so I used the smooth tool to smooth off the edges around my skull objects to make it appear to be a whole image. Finally I used the text bar tool to add text to my poster and give it a unique slogan for people to remember.
what would u do differently:
What I would do differently is change the background to make the image a little more complex and add more text to give more information to the views.

8 composition rules
Rule of thirds:
The rule of thirds is guidelines which helps the process of composing images such as designs, films, paintings, and photographs.
Leading lines:
You can use them to draw the viewer's attention to a specific part of the image. This could be a person or a vanishing point in the background of the image. This is also a very useful compositional tool.
symmetry and patterns:
both are natural and man-made. They can make very eye-catching compositions, a good way to use them is to break them in some way.
veiw point (birds-eye veiw):
a point of veiw that makes the viewer feel like a bird, this veiw point is usually a straight down veiw from a height like over buildings or from the top of a tall stair case.
background:
this is part of the overall scene, behind the main subject of the photograph. This can also be minimized to make the main focus of the photograph stand out.
cropping:
the removal of unwanted outer areas from an image or photograph. This is to remove clutter or "noise" from the background to his cuz on the main subject of the image or photograph.
framing:
An image framed by a natural or man-made object such as through a window, the natural curve of a tree or a door way. Anything that frames the main subject of the photograph or image.
depth:
depth or depth of field (DoF) is the distance between the nearest and furthest elements in a scene. The closest element being sharp and the furthest being blurry and out of focus, this makes the main subject clear.

In this lesson I had to recreate some pictures from a magazine my group was given to get use to the Canon DCSL camera and how to hold and use it.
I had to hold the DCSL like I was a waiter carrying a tray and placed the same arms elbow on my stomach for support to lock my arm in place so my arm doesn't sway as much, making the photo clear.
I used AWB (auto white balance) to get the right colour with the lighting so our faces weren’t orange or over exposed. We also had to focus the camera to get a clear image we could use.

This was my first idea for my advert poster about anti-smoking campaign's. I added some text to the mesh I made to make a prototype of what I wanted my final poster design to have. I want the poster to be simple but have the power to stop someone from smoking by having a powerful message.

This photo was from the spot healing tutorial. From doing this tutorial i now know what the spot healing brush does and how to use it effectively when restoring an old photo.
By doing this tutorial I now know that, the spot healing brush can be used to clone areas from an image and blend the pixels from the sampled area seamlessly with in the area. The sampled area is the area surrounding the selection you have make by brushing over the damaged areas.

My composition is made from the shape tools to make the triangles and the custom shape tool to make the border for the image to make it more appealing and eye catching.
Using the grid snapping turned out a lot more useful then I thought as it helped me snap the shapes to the right area and stop it from cluttering the poster.

This is my document print for the rule of third we did in Photoshop. first i made a new document then selected print and made an A4, portrait, 300 ppi (pixels per inch) blank document, i had to use 300 ppi to make the image look less pixelated, and clicked create.
Next i went to edit, preferences, guides and grids to get the preferences menu, then I changed the gridline every from 1 inch to 100 percent and the subdivisions from 4 to 3 and clicked ok to get the grid.
After I went on view, show and ticked grid, when the grid was ticked it showed me the grid. last I went to view again and pressed new guide layout then got rid of the tick on columns and replaced top, left, bottom, right in margin to 1 cm to add a border to the grid for my composition.

These celebrities were the out come of my zombie tutorial task. I picked a couple of celebrities and a rock or zombie texture to put on the face of the celebrities. first I placed the rock texture layer under the celebrity layer and had them both on a clear background, selected the quick selection tool and selected the face of the celebrity.
Next I kept the selection of the face and moved the rock layer over the celebrity layer and cut the selection to reveal the out like of the face, went on the right side panel then change the blend mode from normal to darkened to show the celebrities skin turn into a rocky texture.
Last, I repeated this on another celebrity.
WWW: I used the correct tools and make a good picture with in Photoshop, I’m happy how it came out because they look like zombies.
EBI: I wish I used better emotions for the celebrities as they were shocked and happy, I think an open mouth or angry face would look more zombie like.
I also didn’t use the quick selection tool effectively because I got some of the shirt in both images and i wish i use a coloured rock more related to a skin colour because the top image is a green rock.

The mesh I made with my own photos of objects I brought to college. this mesh of two objects, a skull and skull frame, first I dotted around the skull frame very carefully (and on the inside) to outline what I wanted to keep.
Next I pressed Enter and made it a selection and used the short cut shift+ctrl+I to invert the selected area and cut to remove the background so it’s clear and did the same thing with the skull but took away some of the helmet on the skull.
After I used the smooth tool to go around the skull and frame so the sharp cut out would blend into the pitch black background I added, then I used the spot healing brush to get rid of some writing on the frame to make some room, saved the skull in a photo shop document, drag and dropped it on a new layer on top of the frame layer.
Lastly I placed the skull in the middle of the frame and added a darker tint to the whole picture to make it dark and scary.
My Opinion
WWW: I've got uses to the healing brush tool and now know how to effectively use it, I've also got to think more about how I place my photo's and where the objects would look right.
EBI: I think I could of added more images of the photos I took to make the image look interesting.

I made an anti smoking campaign poster by using the mesh I made and four images I took of the internet to use for inspiration. I mainly used the type tool, horizontal type, over the mesh I made and tried to use the four anti smoking images to see what would go well.
I decided small text for a fact with the number being a different colour to show the huge amount of fags smokers smoke so people would think that’s a big number and that many can kill anyone healthy or not.
I also decided to put big bold red text to direct you and tell you what not to end up like and stop as fast as you can, this also .
Feed Back
Alisha: I feel like the advert is very simple, however, it has a clear message.
callum: The advert gets the point across very well however, the poster does not include a cigarette so it doesn’t give the full message across.
Melinda: I like your advert because it gets the word across to people that smoke, however it would make it stand out better if you edit the background and make it relate to the product.
My Own Opinion
WWW: I like how this turned out as it has very simple text but could have a big impact on people’s lives if they see this poster.
EBI: I added a little bit more text and added a wow factor, fill the poster more with information.
I also noticed in the feed back I should have added more to the back ground, next time I might add some smoke to give it more of an edge and make it look scary.

I did another colour change with a different image, this time with a snake. I created this using the colour replacement tool inside the brush tool tab. I picked a red colour then clicked the tool and coloured the snake red for a base colour, after I chose a bright purple, made a new layer, coloured the eyes of the snake then made another new layer, picked a darker purple colour, and lastly coloured random scales so there is various colours to make the snake look more interesting.
I like this one more because I've learned about how to use the colour replacement tool more effectively and add more detail with it, I'm VERY happy how this turned out.

I did this in Photoshop by getting a photo of a hallway and an angry face then used the pen tool to cut out the face from the background and then used the short cut shift+ctrl+I to inverse my selected area so I can cut the background out and only leave the face.
after this I saved the face layer and dragged it from my save folder to the hallway layer, then using the smooth tool to go around the face I made it look like a whole image.
last I made the face more ghost like by turning down the opacity on the face to around 30% to 50%.
