A Long and Dull Roar

I always think tattoo modification is fate between the tattoo artist and client, because no tattoo artist wants to modify others work! In order to have a mutual understanding and agreement of the modify artwork, this process is not easy. It involves not only trust between each other, but also patient to ease the anxiety comes along with this process.

Like I always say: sometimes what inspires life is the imperfection. Imperfection shows the gracefulness the kindness that’s about to happen. I think whether is the creative process or life experience is the same.

So, please stay strong my friend. We should always be alert to who we are, and fall in love with ourselves once again!

Dragon, Fright sytle

This client is from Hong Kong, and would like to get a modification work. His original dragon wasn’t bad, but he just really like the Fright demon style!

He has been asking me for almost a year, and finally we met! So, I begin to do some modification work for him. 

This was a challenge physically and mentally, because I need to get this work done within limited time since he needs to go back to Hong Kong. The client was very tough,  was able to can take the pain in such intense hours, so we finally get this work done in three days straight! It was an awesome and fortunate collaboration!!

I quite like how it turns out, what do you guys think?!

Four Goddess Beasts – White Tiger and Basaltic

The unusual way for this piece is the way it represents. I use a more mechanical way to show it. 

In fact, this work has a lot of small details, and it cannot fully revealed in just one photo. So, here are some close-ups to share with you guys. 

The white tiger is express in a lighter white color.  And the carved effect is represent in a style of circuit board, and it is the key feature of this piece. 

And the turtle’s head is hard to find in this piece, it is hidden to give you a little surprise. And the carving effect on the turtle’s head is quite sophisticated. 

I use a mechanical steel technique to show the snake; beneath it is the turtle shell.  The difficulty lies in both colors being so close, and must exhibit the level of differences and transparency.

Scene Statues

I liked the atmosphere of this piece, especially the slightly swollen skin color after finalizing, highlights the feeling of the concept!

Background design is the key; I used the light color halo to present the contrast with the Buddha, then smoke in between to create a 3D visual effects.

The most interesting is the formation of the smog, because the feeling is unable to hit from the draft. If the smog is pre-designed, then the rational emotion will cover all the irrational. When capturing the scene, and looking above the Buddha from the bottom up, is like watching a motion film from ones heart.

So at the moment must be pure emotional, picturing the image from your heart, a picture will slowly form mutually and enrich each other, communicating and dialoguing. The feeling will walk through it; eventually the picture will gradually form naturally. Although this method is a very emotional pattern and risky, but very enjoyable!

Full Back Modification- Demon Faces

I don’t remember when was this modification work took place? I think it must be more than 10 years! It was not finished at the time. The ink during that time was not so easy to use, and even the previous modification part in the middle seem to fade a little bit.

After many years, I met the guest again. I had extended a lot demon faces along with the original piece this time. For modification purposes, a grim demon face is the best to make good use of the old complex lines. Because the devil like graphics can be express through many different looks, so the effect after modification are pretty good!!

Two Buddhas, Two different feelings

Artists are always looking for trouble, and enjoy the superior feeling when they overcome the dilemma of their own making.

Art could act as human’s greed purification machines, beautify the inner greed, and fade away the ugly. But people become greedy again when they received beauty with no cost! Artists are the same.

When artists find out this issue was raised again, they feel the urgent need to fill their appetite, so, the dilemma will be greater. The stronger the needs, the greater the purification machines is needed. All this will become more difficult to understand, ten years, twenty or even hundred years… people will understand what artists do.

For arts, Boas' ideology is to say, " complexity " does not mean "cultural level ", " simple " is not equal to "shabby." The point is how the creator does not compile with simplicity, but to find difficulty?  In its simplest term: do the things that you are most inexperienced or do not want to do; it may be possible to fine the answer!

Disguise and Reality

To people who live in the reality, disguise become the necessary honesty.

To people who live in the world of disguise, it is hard to see the evil in people.

Real honesty people do not need to prove or admits everything that is good, because sometimes they must disguise themselves to protect others.

Evil people often use camouflage to protect themselves. Because the fact that it is difficult to see people, once they see the light, the real heart of the magic that is often filthy. The selfish disguise has begun to erode ones’ mind constantly. The only magic can weaken the demon inside one’s heart; it is to bear with it!

Full back piece in progress 2014 San Francisco

2014 NYC Part 3

As we are wrapping up our NYC trip and be ready to head to Boston and Vegas, I want to share with you some works we have done this time. 

This is a new piece of buddha and lotus. I took a good sketch and tattoo pictures. I want to show you by comparing them side by side.

I also had a pleasure to work with one of my favorite client, the brother duo, again in NYC. They flew all the way from South Carolina this time. They have also visited in me Toronto and Vegas. These two are the real tattoo fanatics. 

First day, the younger brother wants to tribal cover up. 

It took almost 11 hours but every little detail is worth the time :)

The second day, the older brother wants to incorporate a warrior face to his existing tiger tattoo done by me last time in Vegas. 

This was the tiger done last time 

I was able to put a dragon flag at the end to wrap it up :))
