and i , thought it'd be easy to run , but my legs are broken . oh , no , oh no , it's haunting me , it's making it harder to breathe , harder to breathe . i'm leaving tonight . i'm leaving tonight . i'll be GONE in the morning . i saw it from afar , but my eyes have always fooled me . it looked to me like all the sidewalks started walking . i swear to god the voices wouldn't shut up . and i , i figured it all to be love but this isn't lovely . it's haunting me , making it harder to breathe , harder to breathe . oh , i'm leaving tonight . i'll be gone in the morning .

gabriel sighed softly , bringing the hand to the otherâs jaw , running his thumb along the bone , before dropping his touch , realising that he was much too worried about the other for this to remain as casual as it often did . he gave him an encouraging smile and patted him on the back ,  â  wish there was somethinâ I could say , kid âŚÂ my dad werenât the best either , kinda just â somethinâ you do get used to . â  he brought his hands together in a clap , turning around to scan the contents of his fridge ,  â  breakfast ? â
despite the gesture , dakota seemed to lean into it some , a soft sigh escaping his lips when gabe dropped his touch all together . â yeah , i hear a lot of people have shitty dads . â he looked back at gabe , â sorry yours was a dick . â he pressed his lips together before moving to lean against the counter , glancing over at the older man as he spoke . â do i ever say no to food ? âÂ

matteo stepped aside and closed the door behind the other , shaking his head ,  â  heâs on a job , I think , left about ten minutes ago , said he wouldnât be back for a while . did you need to talk to him ? â he made his way back towards the main room and gestured ahead to the corridor that lead to his fatherâs office ,  â  do you want me to call him ? â matteo fell into the sofa and gave the other a small smile ,  â  youâre welcome to wait , of course . â
â like ships in the night , â quin hummed . he really needed to put a tracker on keahi . â no , no , â quin waved a hand around . â like i said , just dropping something off . â he raised the hand with the folder in it . â donât bother him . itâs not a big deal . â quin seemed to return matteoâs smile with one of his own , â i appreciate it . thank you . â

they laughed , almost in relief , really , they may not have known the other , but at least they seemed to be a resident here , and not something that had stalked them from their apartment . finley glanced over their shoulder finally , greeted with nothing but the empty corridor , before looking back to embry and managing another quiet chuckle in response to their words . they imagined they looked quite the sight , paranoid , panicked and exhausted â the same way a lot of people who lived here probably looked .Â
they took a step into the elevator , glancing around the shabby interior , he didnât care that this person may have been going up , theyâd ride in the elevator , take their chances with it versus standing out here and waiting for the next time the doors opened . they pressed themselves back against the wall , crossing one leg over the other and letting out a sigh ,  â  this fucking place will be the death of me . â finley glanced over the other ,  â  Iâm finley , just in case you wanna ask about my funeral when you donât see me for a few weeks . â
-
embry wasnât exactly one to judge , especially not when it came to this place . embry had witnessed enough in his short time of being here to know that something wasnât exactly right with this place . the apartment settled a lot more than other places . made more noise . embry heard the sound of opening and closing doors even with knowing that there were very few people on the floor that he stayed on . he simply chose the road of ignoring it and hoping that it just went away .
â probably the death of all of us , really , â embry spoke with a nod noting how morbid that may have sounded . he grinned as he looked back at the other , â embry . hopefully i can just say hi , finley when we pass each other in the hall versus going to any funerals . â

gabe had figured as much and offered a pitiful smile to the other when he responded . he felt for the kid , he really did , but he also knew there was very little he could do to make dakota feel better . he ran his hand through his hair and yawned , nodding his head ,  â  yeah ,  not too bad , same as usual which ainât all that good anyway âŚÂ â he drew closer to dakota , thanking him for the coffee and placing a hand on his shoulder ,  â  you gonna be alright , kid ? â
dakota never really looked for sympathy when it came to his family although it never really stopped anyone from giving it . he took a sip of his coffee before gabe moved closer , resting a hand along his shoulder . â yeah , â dakota breathed , â iâm used to being disappointed when it comes to my family . nothing iâm not used to . âÂ

he smiled again , breathing out a gentle sigh of relief as he nodded his head , â although â you might have to not look at me like that ⌠â matteo reached out , patting the other on the back before turning away and heading back up to the office to wait for his car . it was a few days before he saw quin again , happening to come across one another once again in the comfort of his fatherâs house , â hey ! â
the two seemed to part then and he didnât see matteo again until he dropped by keahiâs place only to find matteo inside . â hey , â he breathed , shutting the door behind him before venturing further inside . â just dropping some stuff off for your dad . i figure heâs not here . â keahi could be a hard man to catch sometimes but quin understood . he was a busy man after all .Â

â uh , I prefer warmer climates , â he grinned in return , wrapping his arms around his frame , lifting a hand to offer a wave to the other as he watched him head towards his car , only then did the thought enter his mind . â hey , quin â â matteo called out , closing the distance between them , â Iâm sorry for earlier , Iâm not always fair and ⌠well , I would actually like for us to have some sort of working relationship , no flirting involved ⌠think we can start fresh ? â
quin offered a wave of his fingers before he began to move to his own car only to pause when matteo called his name . â you donât have to be sorry , â quin spoke with a tilt of his head before nodding . â but yeah . we can start fresh . â quin had his reasons for acting the way that he did around matteo . he didnât want things to end up complicated here and it wasnât as if he had much to fall back on if things went south .Â

he laughed quietly , rubbing at his eyes , â yeah . â he booked his car and trudged his way to the exit , hovering in the doorway as he looked out at the snow that still clung to the floor . his lips turned down at the sides momentarily , before glancing back to quin with a warm smile , â goodnight , quin . â
quin noticed the way that matteo seemed to hover and a hint of amusement seemed to touch his features . â not a fan of snow ? â he asked with a raise of his brow although maybe he couldnât blame anyone for that . snow was something that quin even had to get used to . he offered a smile and a nod of his head , â goodnight , matteo . â

â probably , â matteo laughed quietly , pushing himself up and nodding his head , â I am heading out , â he murmured , rolling his neck as he reached out for his jacket . he pulled out his phone to call for a ride , while perfectly capable of driving , matteo had never seen much point in owning his own car in the city , he barely drove anywhere . he stepped out of his office after quin , â thanks for checking in , god only knows what time I would have gotten out . â
quin moved to step out of the office before looking back towards matteo . â youâre welcome . â he paused to pull his own car keys out , â i know how your dad can be . if someone doesnât drag him out of here , heâll be here when the sun comes up . â and it seemed as if the same could be said for matteo .Â

matteo busied himself with work for the rest of the day , he barely noticed the hours tick by and it wasnât until his office door opened that he was broken from a near trance like state . matteo rubbed at his eyes , glancing towards the clock , genuine surprise touching his features for a moment , before he offered a gentle laugh ,  â  never understood how he did this night after night , turns out itâs pretty easy . â he wiped his hands down his face and looked out into the hallway ,  â  you going home ? â
'  sure insomnia doesnât run in the family ? â quin asked with a raised brow before glancing down the hallway . â yeah , actually . â he looked back at matteo , â unlike some people i like my sleep . â he offered a small smile as he looked back at matteo , â you heading out or are you staying ? â he figured it was a toss up . he knew how keahi worked . the guy could be here until the sun came up but he wasnât so sure if matteo was going to do the same .Â

he smiled , there was more to kieran than meets the eye , that much was obvious and he was more than thrilled to see it . it was always a breath of fresh air to meet someone who didnât depend on the company of others to have a good time , josh was somewhat of a loner in that sense . his hands found placement on their hips , his lips curving into a small smile ,  â  and how often do you get harassed by that line of people who want you ? â
kieran had to admit that josh was a pleasant surprise in a lot of ways especially now that kieran seemed to know his intentions . it didnât appear that he was looking to do anything that kieran wasnât okay with . the question got a hum out of kieran although they didnât need to think about the answer to give one . â more than iâd like to admit , honestly . â there were those that believed that kieran somehow owed them something and of course there were the ones that didnât rejection very well .Â

â  ew no , â matteo responded ,  â  just you know , crack a smile âŚÂ Iâm a nice guy â a lot of the time , â heâd had more than enough blood on his hands these past few years to claim that much was true constantly , but quin knew that already , he knew exactly who matteo was and he still looked at him sometimes with amusement and appreciation , matteo just wanted that look to remain consistently , and not harden whenever they were alone together . the other followed him out of the room , but matteo was under no illusions that it was for him , he turned on his heel , looking the other up and down , before sighing and shrugging ,  â  fine , you win , pretend you donât like me âŚÂ â he gave the other a wave over his head as he turned into his own office just a little ways down the hall , not one he had very many visitors in mind you , but he figured it was his dadâs way at giving him somewhere to call homebase .Â
quin said nothing as matteo moved in the direction of his office , watching him for a moment until the door closed behind him . he sighed , running a hand down his face before moving in the direction of his own . he didnât see much of matteo after that . not even after he ventured outside of his own office when he realized that keahi was back for the two to talk over some business . the only thing that told him that matteo was still around was the light on in his office even after others had taken their leave . quin sighed to himself before moving forward , knocking on the door first before pushing it over . â itâs late , â he hummed , â not to tell you what to do but ... maybe donât take a note from your old man and be an insomniac . âÂ

he knew how most had endured this job , he knew that people who stared where he did , didnât often get the opportunity to get this close to keahi . he was a man that kept himself to himself , never dabbled in the affairs of anybody past a certain level , abel couldnât blame him for that , business was business , and the people at the bottom very rarely made his past that point . but here he was , worked his way to the top and keahi seemed to like him just fine , thank god , the feeling was very much mutual , probably more so .
abel leaned back , sighed and pushed himself up off the seat , his legs felt a little numb . a soft groan left his lips as he stretched out and nodded his head ,  â  Iâd appreciate it , thanks , â he smiled back at the other , grabbing his jacket from the hanger in the far corner of the room . it was a wonder sometimes how the hours could pass by so quickly , but it was usually that way with the two of them , or at least , for abel . he breathed in deeply , cracking each knuckle , resenting the fact he hadnât rented a car while his own was in the shop , though he wasnât about to object to more time with the boss ,  â if you donât  mind . â
-
truth be told , the long hours never bothered keahi any . sleep had never come easy for him and he was sure even after getting home that he would probably be up for another hour or so before retiring to try and get some rest . at least with what he did for a living , if he couldnât sleep , then he had something to do . he rose from his desk , turning off the lamp before grabbing his jacket and fetching his car keys out of the drawer . â if i did , i wouldnât have offered , â keahi pointed out with a light grin before he moved to the door , pulling it open and pausing for abel to step out first before following suit .
' you know , you could have gone home a while ago , â keahi spoke again when they had reached the car garage , â but i appreciate you sticking around . â although , if it wasnât for abel , heâd probably still be in that spot behind his desk by the time the sun came up . he unlocked the car , getting inside the driverâs seat . â where do you live , kid ? âÂ

â  oh good , youâve seen that too ,  â the way joshua attempted to bail whenever somebody else entered the room didnât exactly mean much , sometimes he was forced to stick around with kieran there , sometimes kieran fessed up the things josh had to say , the way he looked at them , it was kinda sweet , in a way , and josh wasnât a bad looking guy . matteo grinned back at his dad , lifting his coffee in a cheersing motion , before glancing over his shoulder as their doorbell rang .  â  oh , food , â he hopped off his seat , disappearing and reappearing with a bag full of food ,  â  god , I love how close this place is to everything , we get food so quick . â
' i  see a lot more than people think i do . â even if keahi couldnât be sure of certain things , he saw enough to pique his interest at times . he figured joshua may have had a bit of a thing for kieran but at the moment , that wasnât his business . kieran knew how to handle themself and the people that worked for him knew better than to do something that wasnât wanted especially where family was concerned . keahi looked up with the ringing of the doorbell before matteo went off to answer it . â thatâs why we live here , â keahi spoke with a grin although that wasnât exactly the case .

when he awoke , he was surprised to find the bed empty . gabe hadnât even remembered drifting off to sleep that night but it seemed dakota was up and out before he was , which was unusual â not a good sign , he imagined . he slowly went about his usual routine , eventually making his way into the kitchen and giving the other a small smile as he propped himself up against the counter ,  â  didnât sleep too good ? â
dakota was already in the process of pouring a cup of coffee when he heard gabe pad into the kitchen . he glanced over at him before reaching to grab another mug for the older man . â no , â dakota spoke honestly with a slight shake of his head . â not really . âhe turned towards him , handing over the mug . â what about you ? âÂ

đ§đđđŹ'đ đđđđĄ đđđĽđ đđ˘đĄđ đđĄđ˘đ¨đđ đ§đ˘ đđĄđ˘đŞ đŞđđđĄ đ§đ˘ đŁđđŹ đđ§đ§đđĄđ§đđ˘đĄ đđĄđ đŞđđđĄ đ§đ˘ đđđĄđ˘đĽđ đ§đđ đĄđ˘đđŚđđĄđđŚđŚ đ˘đ đĄđđđđđđ˘đ¨đĽđŚ , being on the floor they were , they were used to the racket at this point , but on this particular evening , finley was running out of patience . theyâd been up most of the night working on an essay , and just as they were ready to wind down for the evening , the noises began . the heavy footsteps above their head , the incessant knocking against their door , the sounds of which they could only put down to someone rocking on a chair in the room above their own , someone rifling through a garbage can out in the street . theyâd gone looking for the source of the sounds a lot in the beginning , but they werenât foolish enough to try that anymore .Â
eventually giving up , finley would usually head out onto the fire escape to smoke , but that evening they needed some papers , and figured they might as well grab some food while they were out . craving some normality , they pulled on their clothes and stepped out into the hallway , attention resting mostly on their phone as they stepped out of the apartment and locked the door . the hallway lights werenât the best here , they flickered in their fluorescent lighting , some of them didnât light up at all , but tonight most of the lights behind finley were out , they figured it was vacant places down there , but hadnât really given it much thought .
then they heard a closer noise , one that they assumed would debunk the idea that those rooms were empty , a faint sound of a baby crying , shuffling around , and then a door creaking open . finley paid no attention to how slowly the door moved , it wasnât their business , and they werenât about to go looking . they focused on their phone , walking still towards the elevator , the lights buzzing as they flashed on and off above their head . they couldnât wait to get out of the place . footsteps shuffled after them , somebody cleared their throat and they settled somewhat , the pace of their feet slowing to a more natural speed , rather than the involuntary rush they had begun when the door opened behind him .Â
finley glanced over the contents of their social media feed , only drawn out of that trance once again by their name . it wasnât a voice they recognised , but they spoke it without question , so friendly , that they almost replied . for whatever reason , they froze , silently cursing themselves for pausing in fear . they waited for the noise again , but it never came . slowly tucking their phone back into their pocket for less distraction , finley began to move again , although , it seemed as soon as they did , the shuffling footsteps behind them suddenly took on a more forceful movement , faster , louder , approaching them at a more intimidating speed . they didnât look back , they didnât pause this time either , instead they ran , heading straight for the elevator , pressing the button multiple times and refusing to acknowledge the activity from behind them as every door theyâd seemed to past began to rattle and shake in itâs frame .  â  fuck this , fuck this , fuck this â come on ! âÂ
                                             f i n n n n l e e e y .
their name was sung , and they stiffened , eyes wide , near tears now as his chest heaved up and down , waiting for whatever it was behind them to finally catch up to them . the elevator light flickered in and out , they were never able to tell which floor it was at , or when it would arrive , it was a guessing game , and finely only hoped those doors would open before whatever that was got to them . silence enveloped them , for a moment theyâd thought theyâd gone deaf , it was too quiet , there wasnât a single sound at all . they blinked as the lights shut off around them , as darkness settled around them , as it seemed to no longer matter which way they were facing , did they really want to see what had stalked them down the hallway ? against their better judgement , finley slowly began to turn , only for the loud ding of the elevator to pierce through the silence , break through the darkness , illuminating the area just before the lights above them flickered back to life . they let out a breath they hadnât realised theyâd been holding , their entire frame spinning around to face the elevator , where an unfamiliar face stood ,  â  fucking hell . â @andyversesâ

đđ , đđđđđ đđđđ đđđđ đđđđđ đđđđ'đ đđđđđđđ đđđđđđ . it definitely didnât take a rocket scientist to figure that one out . the place was cheap , cheaper than most around here , and embry could tell from the first moment that he had stepped inside this place that something was off about it . people moved in and out with a drop of a hat although , at this point , he could say that people probably shuffled out of this place more than they shuffled into it .Â
the place was old and surprisingly noisy for how empty that it seemed at times . the air conditioning and heat barely worked , the place creaked and groaned more than any other place embry had lived in but he had taken on the role of simply ignoring it . none of it was his business as far as he was concerned and maybe if he didnât show any interest , maybe if he feigned as if he didnât care , he would never have to know exactly what was going on here .
he stood in the elevator , earphones in his ears to drown out the silence or the rattling that happened every now and again . embry was sure at some point the elevator was going to fail and he was even more certain that would probably be how he died . maybe it wasnât such a bad way to go out . he was taken out of his thoughts by the music playing through his ear phones . it almost sounded jumbled or like it was skipping . he could make excuses . like the wifi in this place sucked but it also ever seemed to happen while he was in this elevator .Â
embry took one ear phone out as soon as the elevator stopped and the doors opened only to be met by someone that seemed to have seen better days . â good evening to you too , â he breathed out , looking over the otherâs appearance before moving to shift , figuring he was getting on the elevator . â bad night in the apartment of hell ? â or at least , thatâs what embry started to call it .

he hummed , nodding his head , trying not to react when the other touched him , after all , he didnât want to break his word here . yes , he wanted them , but heâd be damned if he was just like everybody else that came into their life . his gaze drifted to their lips , his heart near stuttering in his chest at the possibility of finally touching his lips to theirs , but he wouldnât . there was nothing that would happen between the two of them without kieran making the move . they wanted different , they were sure as shit going to get it â and god help anybody that tried to come between this . josh spun them around again , grinning this time as their frames connected once again ,  â  youâre alone tonight ? â
they noticed the way josh looked at them . the way his gaze dropped to their lips but he was a man of his word and didnât try anything . they wondered how long it would last before he finally broke or if he would really hold out for the perfect moment or until kieran finally made the first move . they guessed only time would really tell but for the moment , kieran would focus on what was happening now and not what may happen later . josh spun them again and they grinned , frames coming together like they had before . ' yeah . i donât mind being alone sometimes . âÂ

he would never get tired of this , not of their relationship , not of their sex life , not of kieran . he was absolutely and completely infatuated with them , loved every inch of them , loved their mind and body and everything else . kieran was perfect , and josh refused to believe anything less . watching them fall apart had become the most satisfying part of all of this , his own pleasure coming second to theirs , the way their toes curled and their body shivered and their eyes squeezed shut , the way they moaned unintelligible words and something that he assumed was his name . josh melted , following suit without any further warning , grinding his hips into their own as their name fled his own mouth just as he collapsed against them .
there was nothing tiring about the relationship that kieran had with josh . there was nothing that bored them when it came to josh or their relationship . they were simply happy just being in joshâs presence even on the days where nothing more happened between them than a quick conversation or tired words exchanged between them before they eventually fell asleep . josh was everything that kieran ever wanted and letting him go simply wasnât an option . kieranâs eyes opened the moment that josh seemed to fall apart before collapsing against them . they stayed quiet for a moment , attempting to catch their breath as their fingertips lazily danced up and down joshâs back .Â
