I spent hours staring at gold bars stock photos while making this and now my head hurts

There’s few things I get more satisfaction out of on this blog than calling out shit that honestly, no one should notice, so it gives me a sort of beleaguered pleasure to check photoshop like i’m checking my watch and announce that the three high-profile snake-based cover drops from the past days/weeks that have everyone going “Lol so many snakes” in fact use the same snake. Either the same stock photo or 3D model, based on the identical shape and lighting patterns of the scales. The QUEEN OF NOTHING one had me fooled with the purple coloring, but the head and nose highlights still identifiably match the QUEEN OF THE CONQUERED snek which you can see in my highly professional mockup that took me approximately 15 seconds:

I’m not saying this is “bad”, just worth noting, although as with my Desire typeface spiel i do think blatant examples of design resource homogeny within such a small community (and in this case, within weeks of each other) are marginally embarrassing, but more than anything I’m curious how this happened! I can only assume it’s a new asset that was released on a common stock site and happened to be seen by three different designers* who rightfully all went “aw shit that’s dope gotta use that somewhere” and then promptly…. did.

(* tho both QUEEN books are published by Hachette, albeit different imprints. NINTH HOUSE is Little Brown/ Macmillan.)

Hi everyone, I am really sorry to have to keep doing this, but I really need some help. For those of you who don’t know, last year I escaped my physically abusive family. I headed to NY where I thought I had some friends who could help me, and hopefully find work to support myself. Unfortunately, after being made homeless when my support group fell through, I wound up hospitalized instead for a breakdown, and have been in a spiral ever since. I’m currently trying to get disability for my severe PTSD and bipolar disorder, because my illness has progressed to the point of blackouts and losing spans of time that can last for days, along with the onset of chronic fatigue and pain that makes holding down a 9-5 job impossible. But I’m afraid it is taking longer than anticipated and I’m completely out of options.

I’m trying to maintain my housing situation for which I pay $180 a week (I pay every Tuesday). I’m in desperate need of rent because if I miss one payment then I’m back to being homeless.

So, the last iteration of this post lost traction so I’m trying this is again.

Dessie is ten now, turning 11 this June. Our personal circumstances as a family are improved, thank goodness. But help is still needed because she is, as of 3/24/2019, active on the deceased donor list!

So at any time, day or night, we could get the call saying “We think we have a viable kidney for her, prepare!”, with either a follow up call telling us to get there ASAP or that, no, that kidney won’t work.

And once we’re called to go, we’re in Seattle for three to four months. The surgery will take a few hours; time in the hospital may be a week or two, following by frequent labs and clinic visits afterwards. (Assuming all goes well, which isn’t guaranteed).

So if this could get fully funded, we’d be grateful. We’re already incredibly thankful for the help we’ve received.

HELP ME!!!!

I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! March 30, 2019, I found a package on my doorstep with nothing written on it, meaning, there was no addresses or names to be found. Inside there was a notebook and a pencil. The notebook is completely filled. I think what was written in here was meant to be a whole ass book if I’m being honest. And that thought is really upsetting to me because somehow this ended up with me, and not the editor that it must have been going to. I feel terrible… after reading a few pages it is very obvious to me that someone poured a lot of time and effort into this and I have no way of figuring out who wrote it or who it was going to. I already threw out the box because it rained a lot the day before I saw it; the box was trashed and smelled like garbage. (Not about to bring that smell into my house…) Okay, this is the part where I need your help! Please reblog this, I don’t care who you are or how many followers you have, I need to know if they’re here and how this ended up with me. Also, If anyone knows a writer living in the Egg Harbor, New Jersey area who may have possibly sent their work to a publisher recently and/or owned a notebook resembling this one:

Hi! i would like an advice on how to begin worldbuilding. There is so much to think about and i don't know where to start . I feel a little overwhelmed haha ( i love your blog its really helpful )

With worldbuilding, my general advice is to break it down into categories, like government, history, setting, society, culture, language, etc. then as you find things you need to convey to your reader throughout the process of writing, figure these things out. It’s important to remember that most worldbuilding details come organically, and are not totally planned ahead of writing.
