Lockdown won’t get me down!

I have up days and I have down days. So far the ups are outweighing the downs and I plan on keeping it that way no matter how shambolic I think the situation is. Its been over 7 weeks and so far I have filmed Isolation Stories for ITV, all about lockdown and shot in lockdown, two episodes of Dunbreedin, which are airing on YouTube, we’ve filmed 6 episodes so far with another 6 to go. I am very proud of what we’ve achieved in this time. Today the TV industry has been informed that we can now go back to work as long as we maintain social distancing, that is going to be really tough but at least there is light at the end of the self employed/freelance TV and Film sector tunnel.

On my down days I have a little cry because I miss my mum, my friends my life as it was. I worry about how the world is going to right itself and if we’ll ever get back to ‘normal’. I worry that I will burn through all my savings, that as an actor in such an unstable industry, I’ve always needed to have to make sure I survive. I’m lucky that I have them, I know many don’t, but there is a natural ebb and flow in my industry that when and if everything kicks back off again, I will no longer be prepared for. I just worry.

So, at home we have tried to stick to a routine. We are all up and about by 8.45 and we start the day with a Berrocca and a Jo Wicks PE class. We are having to add the workout to the kids pocket money earnings, but it’s worth it, a pound a day to keep them active. Without it they would gladly sit on their bums watching a screen ALL day. In fairness so would I. Missie my 12 year old is still doing her school day, although somehow she manages to wrap it all up in a couple of hours, it doesn’t feel right but the school are in the process of setting up a system which means we can see what work is being set and what work hasn’t been handed in. Everybody is learning how to deal with this situation so trying to be patient. Tallulah, my eldest, had her GCSEs cancelled so she was instantly at a loose end on 23rd March, she’s been helping with filming and has a natural eye with the camera. We bought embroidery, playstation games and signed up to Kindle unlimited to try and find things to occupy us. We make sure that we eat all our meals together and in the evening we try and find a theme, Italian, Spanish, Vegan or Indian. We’ve somehow convinced the kids to watch a film or tv programme with us each night and so far worked our way through the Marvel Films, a lot of war films including 1917 and Pearl Harbour and we’ve just started watching The Last Dance on Netflix. We try to get them into bed by 9.30pm so that we can have an hour to ourselves watching what we want, which is Ozark series 3 at the moment, but it doesn’t always work. On the weekends we have the ‘Big Clean’ on Saturday mornings and a take away on Saturday night. Sunday is for a roast and a rest. I can feel resentment for some of the order I try to implement but I also feel the reassurance of structure making the girls feel safe in what feels like an uncontrollable situation being run by a bunch of clowns. They say ‘only try and control what you can control’ and that’s what I’m doing, I’m running the household and hopefully on the other side the family will appreciate it.

WATCHING……

White Lines on Netflix starting on 15th May, because its absolutely brilliant and i’m in it! Dunbreedin on Youtube, because its brilliant and I’m in it! And The Last Dance on Netflix, a documentary about Michael Jordan. Its brilliant, but sadly I’m not in it. Who knew that I would ever be interested in basketball?

LISTENING TO…..

A hell of a lot of musical soundtracks. Mainly Mean Girls and Hamilton. Not by choice but my daughters conditions for clearing up after dinner is that they can sing musicals at the top of their voice. I think it’s a small price to pay.

WEARING….

American Vintage pink boiler suit. Comfy, bright and practical. Then when the sun comes out I have my Liberty bikini conveniently underneath.

LOVING….

My Skin 111 facemask’s. The whole family have used them, for our quarantine pamper nights… even Jason. He’s game for anything.
