Super weird to me that ‘love languages’ are treated like hogwarts houses and not like, like, different facets that appear in varying degrees of everybody

i’m trying not aimlessly scroll through social media so much so have collated some links. having other internet-related options easily accessible will HOPEFULLY mean i actually a) get round to making a dent into the backlog of stuff i thought looked interesting and b) kickstart Better Habits… obviously making a list for non-digital activities too, but putting this list on here for ease of ref / in case it’s useful to anyone else. take care all 🥰
some reading i’d like to get round to
some interesting essays
misc articles on art
horror stories

‘articles of interest’ mini-podcast series on some fashion history
the met collection / british library collection of manuscripts etc / “go to the museum”

Clean teeth tips from a dentist:
1. First rinse your teeth with a fluoride mouthwash for at least one minute. Spit. Do not rinse with water.
2. Floss right after. Make sure to get in between every tooth and the corners of the gums. Spit. Do not rinse.
3. Brush your teeth like you regularly would.
4. Use a whitening mouthwash to finish up. Do not eat or drink anything for at least 30min after.
Do this at least twice a day. I’ve always had bad teeth growing up but now they’re amazing. Some people don’t even have to go in for their 6 month cleaning after using this method.

What are your tried and true flirting techniques? How do you build a spark with someone you randomly meet? I appreciate all of the advice and tips you’ve shared with us!
I think one of the most underrated flirting techniques is making eye contact and actually engaging with men. Society has conditioned women to avoid eye contact and engaging with men - admittedly, because men are creeps and it’s often a survival method. However, we have somewhat overdone it, and I find myself sometimes actively avoiding people around me. The good news is, once you begin to identify your mannerisms and that they’re not always necessary, you can begin to open yourself to flirting/opportunities.
Say you’re in a “safe space” in that you’re surrounded by people and you can count on the majority of them being “safe.” This scenario typically happens at specific events, but can also happen frequently on college campuses (libraries, cafes, etc.). Take a step back, and actually scan the room. Do it lazily and confidently - don’t pretend to be looking for anyone, just be taking it all in. You’ll find that men/boys our age are actually also relatively comfortable looking around a room (and most girls aren’t! lol)
ANYWAYS, if you happen to make eye contact with any guys, especially the cute ones, smile! Maintain the glance for a moment, give a half smile, and then keep looking around. That fleeting moment of eye contact that was paired with a positive response will ABSOLUTELY leave an impact on that guys mind. Some of the more confident ones will even see it as an opportunity to come over and strike up a conversation!!
Eye contact paired with a positive reaction is just so rare these days, men find it absolutely intoxicating and exhilarating.
So ya, you’ll need the look, confidence, and conversation skills to maintain a flirty disposition... but I swear the first key to it all is eye contact 😘

i'm sure you've been asked this a million times and i am so sorry if u have but do you have anything on learning to deal with and be okay with like being alone/loneliness? literally please ignore me if you're sick of being asked this
here are my favourite, most positive quotes on loneliness:
“I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that there will always be a ribbon of loneliness running through who I am. But that’s why I want to do comedy, and why I want to connect with people. You can use that ribbon to be a part of a finer tapestry, or you can choke yourself out with it.”
— Jenny Slate (on which my loneliness tag is based)
“& remember, / loneliness is still time spent / with the world.”
— Ocean Vuong, “Someday I’ll Love Ocean Vuong”
“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, / the world offers itself to your imagination, / calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting — / over and over announcing your place / in the family of things.”
— Mary Oliver, “Wild Geese”
“I have been trying, for some time now, to find dignity in my loneliness.”
— Maggie Nelson, Bluets
“I don’t believe the cure for loneliness is meeting someone, not necessarily. I think it’s about two things: learning how to befriend yourself and understanding that many of the things that seem to afflict us as individuals are in fact a result of larger forces of stigma and exclusion, which can and should be resisted.
Loneliness is personal, and it is also political. Loneliness is collective; it is a city. As to how to inhabit it, there are no rules and nor is there any need to feel shame, only to remember that the pursuit of individual happiness does not trump or excuse our obligations to each another. We are in this together, this accumulation of scars, this world of objects, this physical and temporary heaven that so often takes on the countenance of hell. What matters is kindness; what matters is solidarity. What matters is staying alert, staying open, because if we know anything from what has gone before us, it is that the time for feeling will not last.”
— Olivia Laing, The Lonely City

hello queen! do you have any advice on how to be kinder?
i would say... first start by acknowledging the fact that you have a huge capacity for meanness and cruelty bc everyone does. and it’s not helpful to imagine yourself as a beacon of kindness bc it undermines the fact that you inevitably will hurt people because that’s how life goes. i think a lot of people value kindness but they don’t put in the work to be nicer or more careful or more attentive and they only focus on the idea because they like the idea and they value kindness as a trait but they don’t make any changes in themself. but kindness starts by acknowledging that you haven’t always been kind and you’ll be unkind again but the point is to put more attention and care into your everyday interactions and work on being more vulnerable and delicate with people. being kind isn’t a constant state or a trait even but a conscious act and a choice you make in every interaction and relationship and so you just have to pay attention to people and be gentle with them but also honest and sincere. because kindness always starts with being genuine. but i’m not an expert but i’d like to be kinder always

My friend asked how I learned to cook and the answer is I didn't. I know like 5 things about cooking and they are:
Always use more garlic than the recipe calls for
"Ehhh fuck it close enough" is a great measurement tool
Find like 5 recipes that you like, adjust them how you like them, make them until you hate them
Clean as you go
If a recipe is from a mommy blog, you will need more spices
If anyone wants to add, please do
