final project!
for this project, i based my story off of Finding Nemo. I changed Marlin and Nemo to monarch butterflies, and Dory became a hummingbird. In the beginning, Nemo is a caterpillar as to show his innocence and youth. By the last panel when Marlin finds him, he’s a butterfly, to show his growth over the time he spent away. In the second panel, the blue butterfly is to represent the school teacher for the fish. In the fifth panel, the vulture is to represent the sharks that dory and marlin meet. In the seventh panel, the otter is to represent the turtles that Marlin and Dory meet.
This project I found fun yet challenging. I wanted it to have an illustrative, childish feel. I used watercolor and sharpies. My covers were digitally printed.

triptych story project!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for this project, i tried to depict the lion king.
in the first image, i showed rafiki holding simba, who i changed to a human boy. i changed the setting to an island to give the story a different feel than the original. for the center image, i tried to combine both rafiki and mufasa, and i did it with dark colors in order to represent all the difficulties that occur in the middle of the story. then lastly, the last image shows simba all grown up, ready to take his place as king.
for this project we had to use matte medium, which at first was hard to do. i think i kind of got the hang of it by the end, however, it didn’t really come out how i wanted it to. for this composition i used pastels, bristol, matte medium transfer, charcoal, and digitally created shapes which i printed.
this project was definitely one of the more challenging ones. i had a hard time not only with the mediums i chose, but with conceptually depicting a story.

shape series project!
for this project i really wanted to play with the idea of eye contact. i used bristol, acrylic paint, digitally created shapes, bed sheet fabric, and eyes that i edited in photoshop and printed, and sharpies.
the colors were really important for me, because these colors i feel are electric and could reflect intimate/electric moments. i placed a different type of eye on each sheet because i wanted to depict different types of eyes and eye contact. all the circles were supposed to represent both people and eyes. it’s something we’re constantly surrounded by. the city drawings that were done in sharpie were to represent the masses and how there’s so many of us that just go unnoticed each day.
the one thing i would have done differently now is maybe i would have tried to make all the circles i printed eyes instead, to see how that would have shifted the read of the composition.
