Why do I care so much about Kaeya, anyway? He is undeniably, breathtakingly beautiful, yes, but is it all about his looks, Nope. While he's stunning as he matches the night sky, his celestial blue beauty is just one part of the equation.

His name is just as pretty as the rest of him, but it's not all about his physical appearance or name.

Let's look at his background. There's zero mention of his mother, which means she either died or abandoned him. Since Mihoyo game designers studied anime, it's not too ridiculous to assume his mother either met a tragic death or walked out on him. His mother gives me Fruits Basket vibes-she feels like she was just as abusive as his father, if not more so. In any event, she's not a big part of his life, as she's not mentioned anywhere.

Let's look at his biological father. His douchebag prick of a father. In one of Kaeya's profile bits, it's mentioned that he'll never forget the hope and hatred in his father's eyes. That right there equals 'TRAUMA' in big, neon letters. Not a great memory to have of a parent.

So Kaeya's piece of shit father uses his son in a bloody, ill-fated plot, then just ups and leaves him. Kaeya carries out his part in the plot, but that leads to brother-figure Diluc hating him with merciless passion. Yes, Diluc keeps the vase, but the emotional chasm between them is enormous, as this beautiful, cheerful image shows:

I understand that his relationship with Diluc is subjective. Some see their relationship as one between brothers that simply love to get on each other's nerves. I'm not at all discounting their interpretations. I'm not going to call anyone ridiculous or stupid for seeing Diluc and Kaeya as brothers that simply enjoy teasing each other. Personally, though, I consider the history between them, how Diluc verbally snarls at him, and the plot Kaeya was forced to participate in.

So. Now that we've gone over his delightful background, let's take a look at personality. Webtoon Kaeya is much more aggressive than Game Kaeya, but both share the same playful, roguish spirit. While I'm more familiar with and much more fond of Game Kaeya, Kaeya as a character has not been proven to be a cold-blooded murderer, so he still earns whoppers of points in my book.

My final reason for doting on this blue little firebug: his English VA, Josey. Josey is now one of my most favorite VAs of all time. He gives Kaeya this cat-like, feminine and manly edge, all at once, and I adore it.
