Who is Black Noir?
There have been numerous theories as to who our tall, dark, and ridiculously strong "hero" is underneath his mask. We get to know little details about the members of the Seven and their personal lives (even Translucent, who gets killed off pretty early in season 1, was mentioned to have had a child), but we know little to nothing about the man in black. He knows how to conduct himself for a tea ceremony and how to play piano, but the only real information that we get about him is that Homelander seems to look at him as the only other competent member of the group. And the only thing we know about his looks is that he's currently played by Nathan Mitchell, but that could just be to mislead us. It's not unheard of for a show to use a stand in, particularly to keep the audience guessing.
[Side note: there isn't a whole lot of evidence that I've seen so far. The show seems to like to keep us in the dark about Black Noir. This is purely speculation for fun.]
One theory I've seen floating around is that he's Mother Milk's brother. In the comic, MM's mother had passed along traces of Compound V to her children, due to being employed at one of Vought's factories. MM's brother died due to complications with Compound V, and MM's father began fighting Vought with lawsuits. The show has been unafraid to steer away from the comic, so it wouldn't surprise me if Vought had noticed MM's brother's powers and secretly taken him away to indoctrinate him. Perhaps as a last resort should Homelander ever step too far out of line. (Much like how Black Noir in the comic is a clone of Homelander created for that very reason.)
Another theory is that Black Noir is a merely a disguise for Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy was "the very first superhero", and according to Stan Edgar, Soldier Boy killed Germans during the war "by the dozens." Black Noir hasn't had a lot of fighting screen time, but what little he's had shows how incredibly dangerous he is. From the way he handled Kimiko, I'd have little doubt that he could take care of regular soldiers "by the dozens". According to some news articles I've read, after the war Soldier Boy became a famous actor then his death was faked after a mission. Why did he fake his death? Considering he's been around since WW2 and is still young like Stormfront, I assume it was to hide the fact that he doesn't age. Perhaps he wanted (or needed) to start anew. In the comics Stormfront and Soldier Boy are a part of a team called Payback. Maybe in the show they're in cahoots. It would also make sense that whoever is behind Stormfront's promotion (and the possible Vought coup Susan was talking about before her head exploded) to the Seven would want someone there to watch the Seven until the time was right. Someone quiet and useful who wouldn't draw suspicion...
Or perhaps Black Noir is just Stan Edgar's weird childish hitman. Hopefully, season 2 will give us more of my favorite quirky member of the Seven. :)
