One of my favourite bird name phenomenons is when you have a family of like. Just gonna use the made up term shore-snipe. Shore-snipes that are all called something like 'rough-legged shore-snipe' 'common shore-snipe' or 'spotted shore-snipe' or whatever and there's one random ass species among them that's just called like 'the chirgle'. And the chirgle is not significantly visually distinct from the other shore-snipes to any degree that would justify it being singled out name-wise like this. Why is this one guy so special
