One of my favorite parts about Dawntrail is that no one knows who the WoL is.
Like, Koana has a vague idea, sure, and Galool Ja Ja clocks that we're far from average in an instant, but no one else has a fucking clue who this adventurer the Third Promise brought with her is.
Cause it leads to so many moments that are absolutely hilarious for us as players (and arguably our WoLs if you rp).
The way every threat of violence against the WoL and the party, and every "I bet you've never seen anything like this" could absolutely get one of the responses about:
-how we've slain eikons and gods,
-how we've saved the Star multiple times,
-how we've channeled (and honestly probably still have some of) the power of dragons,
-how we've been to other worlds, the past, and the edge of existence
And instead we get to respond with things that are effectively intimidating smiles and humble confidence.
It's not "Bitch, you don't who you're messing with."
It's "Yeah, ok, bud." Which is arguably the funnier and the more insulting of the options.
This is Stormblood all over again, but x2 cause we've done so much more than help settle revolutions by now. 😂

Smash or Pass FFXIV Edition
Not actually tagged by anyone, but I saw @sunderedazem and @calico-heart do it and figured I should do one too featuring my train wreck of an au ra!
Khorijin Iriq
Quick Facts:
Age: 28 (start of Dawntrail)
Height: 4'9"
Gender: Cis woman
Sexuality: Demisexual/Pansexual
Pronouns: She/her
Pros:
excellent hunter and forager from growing up on the Steppe and training in Gridania. You'll never go hungry, even in the most remote locations!
trained as a bard when she came to Eorzea. She knows all the best songs and stories.
quite playful and silly once she warms up to you.
also very romantic and physically affectionate. Loves to cuddle.
very loyal to her people and will gladly defend them to the death if needed.
she's quite easy to pick up and carry around due to her small stature. If you're close, she won't mind this at all.
Cons:
you might hear her talking to herself. Except she's talking to the manifestation of all her rage and grief. Or the dead guy who was a shard of her sundered soul. Either way, she's got some quite literal ghosts.
tends to shut down and soldier through tough situations, which is great until she realizes what exactly happened and begins to spiral. It's not pretty.
willingly puts herself into situations that are detrimental to her health, physical or mental. Cannot be talked out of it if it's for the good of the Star.
not quite over her past self's ex from the pre-sundering times.
somewhat touch-averse after everything that happened to her on the First. She's working on overcoming that, but it's a struggle. She has to initiate to feel comfortable.
Details to know:
Khori has many battle scars, some from previous Naadams before she left the Steppe, but most were from her time with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. She's not ashamed of them, but she does look a little patchwork.
this includes her time on the First when she stopped the Eighth Calamity at the source of the problem. The change she's most self-conscious of is the change to her scales.
for quite a while after the First, Khori felt like anyone who touched her risked "contaminating" themselves with any residual light aether that may have remained within her. She was very paranoid the first few weeks after the events in the Tempest, but shes slowly managing to overcome her aversion to others touching her.
prefers tea as her morning beverage of choice, so strong it's almost bitter.
didn't believe in the Twelve until certain events during Endwalker. Even then, she's still not particularly religious, save for habitual prayers to her patron deity, Oschon, at the start of every journey. It's more the ritual itself that calms her than believing a god is protecting her.
she absolutely loves spicy foods. Be prepared for this, especially if she's doing the cooking!
Romantically - Khori is an attentive partner and doesn't shy away from tame PDA, like coiling her tail around her partner as they walk or cuddling. Her love language skews towards doing things to help her partner, whether it's melding materia into their crafting sets or helping them look after the chocobos. However, due to lingering fear from nearly turning into a Lightwarden she tends to shy away from any touches that she doesn't initiate. Despite this difficulty, she's very dedicated to any partner.
Sexually - despite being touch-averse, Khori is game for just about any fun in bed. Just let her initiate. She's versatile, but prefers being in charge, just in case she has a bad reaction to something. Despite her hang-ups about touch, she's more than willing to try anything at least once!

My other poll got some traction but i think I missed a crucial axis of information: nationality. Please reblog for sample size!!
This question is asking about firearms (ie not airsoft, BB, pellet, paintball and definitely not laser tag)
#yes#i was a camp counselor for the boy scouts as a teenager#they have a shooting range and merit badges for marksmanship#so a lot of my downtime was spent there because my friends on staff worked there#shot .22 hunting rifles and shotguns

so I'm not playing DT yet, but I'm super curious! WITHOUT SPOILERS, put your level and how much you are (or are not?) enjoying the expansion so far in the tags or comments? Whether its story, graphics, jobs, whatever! good or bad!
#level 100 and msq complete!#i went into DT with low expectations after too many bad WoW expansions#and it was very fun for me#was it slow in the first half? yes#but i enjoyed not having the spotlight on my WoL#rassjan got to sit back and mentor her new adopted daughter#and occasionally hit things as needed#zones were 10/10#music 10/10#dungeons and trials 10/10#the story i give a 9.5/10#but only because there were a few hiccups that i didn’t vibe with

Having finished Dawntrail's msq yesterday, I figured I'd toss my review into the ring. I was hyped for the expansion for sure, but I kept my expectations low due to witnessing two back-to-back overhyped WoW expansions that were incredibly bad - in story, gameplay, and overarching expansion systems. Needless to say, I've been burned before in the mmo expansion circuit because of Warlords of Draenor, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands - and quite badly by the latter two - but my overall feelings regarding Dawntrail are highly positive. I've put my deeper thoughts below the cut, as they'll be pretty spoilery. And quite long, as I'll be comparing and contrasting FFXIV and WoW's approach to expansions, characterization, and how they handle launches.
A lot of people would say that the story drags, but I love some good world building. I honestly really enjoyed the "back to basics" approach that the first half of expansion's story took - going around to meet the different people of Tural and learning about their cultures. It took me back to the early days of ARR where you're just a guy doing what they can to help people, and as a WoW refugee to FFXIV, an approach I definitely prefer over being THE Hero who often got sidelined in the big moments so Jaina/Anduin/Thrall could do their thing. Only this time, we're the ones doing the mentoring instead of the Scions/our Job Trainer being the mentor to us. True, we only had a few moments of actual mentoring, but there were plenty of "silent talking" moments that you can opt to fill in with giving Wuk Lamat advice.
There was only one true hiccup to my enjoyment of the Rite of Succession half of the expansion, and I'm sure it's also on everyone else's list of hated moments this expansion - Wuk Lamat's kidnapping. I get it's supposed to establish that Wuk Lamat's still a bit too trusting and naive to rule Tural, that Bakool Ja Ja is a true threat to the Rite, and give us some bonding time with Koana, but this section dragged on far too long. And it had two stealth follow segments in a row! TWO! Granted, they're a bit easier now with the big "DO NOT APPROACH" aura compared to how they worked in Endwalker, but it's still my least favorite gameplay mechanic.
The zone and dungeon designs were gorgeous, and the music team 100% hit it out of the park again. Out of all the early story areas, I think that the lower portion of Yak'Tel has to be my favorite, as well as Skydeep Cenote being my favorite dungeon. The music in that dungeon is appropriately haunting, given that it's a mass grave for all the failed Blessed Siblings that never had a chance to live. Speaking of...
I did not expect to enjoy Bakool Ja Ja's character as much as I did. He was introduced as a bully, willing to do whatever it took to be crowned Tulliyolal's new leader. Then the Mamool Ja storyline happened in lower Yak'Tel and my view of him did a complete 180. He was a guy who shouldered the hopes and expectations of his people due to the circumstances of his birth, but carried all the guilt of being the one to survive while other Blessed Siblings did not. Having a sympathetic antagonist is nothing new for FFXIV, but he never truly was a villain at heart. Seeing his growth as the msq went on was wonderful. I hope we get to interact more with him as a friend instead of an antagonist with patch content.
Going back to my earlier point of being sidelined so the Big Name characters can do their thing, it does happen in Dawntrail, but not in a way that felt overly egregious to me? It's entirely possible it didn't bother me as much because we were there to see Lamaty'i's growth first-hand versus needing to track down and spend real money on outside media to read about how Character A went from a normal person to certified Grade A Badass, which was the case more often than not between WoW expansions. I mean, I was floored when I first started playing and they kept the "next expansion preview" quests in-game versus an event that runs for about two weeks and is gone forever once time's up, so there's also that to consider.
As for the two "main" big bads of the expansion, I have mixed feelings. Zalool Ja was a far cry from the Saturday Morning Cartoon villains of WoW or the ARR days and I found him actually far more compelling than the other villain who I'll get into later.

And a fun little pose from my last line challenge post of how the first meeting ends - with Lahabrea carrying a very sheepish Sinoe to the Words of Emmerololth for healing.
I was half-asleep when I was attempting this and used the wrong Lahabrea model. It should have been the younger one because they met a bit before he self-sundered. Oops!
#ffxiv#lahabrea#azem#lahazem#oc: sinoe#their friendship can be categorized as stubborn fools who help each other before they help themselves#if Sinoe returned to Amaurot in rough shape he always made sure they were taken to a healer#and Sinoe tried to make sure he didn't overwork himself

“reasons to not kiss him: 1. you weren’t raised to love tender. 2. when he’s around all you do is tremble. when he’s around you want to get on your knees. look how much power he has over you. it’s dangerous. 3. he’s too good at forgiving and you’re too good at violence. 4. you know what they say about monsters. you know what happens to the boys who love them. are you going to do that to him? 5. your hands don’t know how to be gentle. think about the last beautiful thing that shattered in your palms. the fresh rosebuds crumbling between your fingers like a bruise. you wolf-boy, you war machine. you wouldn’t know how to hold something magic and not destroy it. 6. if you hurt him it might kill you 7. if you hurt him you might kill yourself. 8. you are very bad at rehabilitation. this is one addiction you’d fail to give up. he’s going to ruin you for all other kisses and all other boys and you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to forget his name. 9. you still aren’t sure he isn’t a dream. 10. if you kiss him, you might wake up.reasons to kiss him: 1. because he’s beautiful. 2. because he asked. 3. because he preceded please with, i’m not afraid of you.”
